Relief as Pretoria woman and dog found safe after 5-day search
There is relief across Pretoria and beyond as Celeste van Aswegen and her dog, Shadow, have been found safe, bringing an end to a tense five-day search.
According to Pretoria Rekord, it is believed she was found last night at a lodge in KZN.
Celeste was reported missing on Saturday after last being seen near Menlyn Shopping Centre on Atterbury Road, driving a grey Volkswagen Amarok. She and her dog, Shadow, had not been seen or heard from since, sparking widespread concern and a co-ordinated search effort involving family, friends, the public, and private investigator Mike Bolhuis.
Family members confirmed that both Van Aswegen and Shadow have been located and are safe.
Details surrounding their whereabouts during the missing period have not yet been made public.
What to include in a missing person report
When reporting a loved one missing, it is crucial to provide clear and detailed information to assist search teams and authorities. Paul Visser from the Pretoria ICE Community Network shared the following checklist of essential details that should be included in a missing person's report:
Start by stating the location where the person was last seen and their full name and age. Include a physical description such as height, weight, hair colour, and eye colour. Describe the clothing they were last seen wearing as accurately as possible.
It is also important to note the exact time and place they were last seen, as well as whether a missing person case number has been opened. Indicate if their cellphone is on or off, and whether there is any tracking device in their vehicle. If the missing person has a known medical condition, this must be clearly stated.
Finally, provide a short summary of the circumstances surrounding their disappearance – for example, their destination, who they were with, or any unusual behaviour prior to going missing.
Sharing complete and accurate information from the start can make a vital difference in locating a missing person quickly and safely.

Diddy verdict looms: Will music mogul face life in prison or walk free?
It has been seven weeks of revealing testimony in the Diddy trial. The federal trial of hip hop royalty, Sean 'Diddy' Combs, will come to a dramatic end this week. The rapper and producer faces charges, including racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation for prostitution, stemming from allegations that he led a criminal enterprise spanning decades. The hip hop legend could do life in prison should he be found guilty. The prosecution presented 34 witnesses and has since rested. The list of witnesses included former partners, sex workers, Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura, and a woman whose identity has been protected and is identified as Jane or Jane Doe. These women testified to being coerced into sexual encounters that were driven by drugs, and that these instances often involved escorts and lavish 'freak-off' parties. Video footage was also introduced along with text messages and financial records to further drive home allegations around abuse, intimidation, and manipulation. The rapper's defence team elected to present no witnesses. Diddy did not take the stand either. His lawyers focused their energies on cross-examination and introduced evidence to illustrate how these encounters were consensual. Diddy told the judge that the choice not to take the stand was solely his decision after intensive deliberation with his counsel. A few of the allegations against the man who unearthed talents like The Notorious B.I.G. and Mary J. Blige have been dropped. These include allegations of attempted kidnapping, attempted arson involving rapper Kid Cudi, and aiding and abetting sex trafficking. The prosecution will set out to cement the portrait they have painted of Diddy as a violent predator. A person who uses his influence and his social cache to take advantage of women. The defence will attempt to convince the jury that Diddy is a victim of opportunistic individuals whose motivation is centred on resentments and fiscal gains. If the Bad Boy Entertainment founder is found guilty, he could face life in prison. More than just his freedom hangs in the balance as a guilty verdict could have detrimental implications for his legacy as a legend in the hip hop industry. On behalf of the Newcastle Community Policing Forum (CPF) and the Newcastle South African Police, Sandile Mdluli (Public Relations Officer for Newcastle CPF) has issued an awareness statement regarding the concerning rise in ATM and other economic crimes reported in Newcastle. According to Mdluli, recent statistics revealed that Newcastle ranked 26th nationally and 5th provincially in terms of economic crimes. This alarming position highlights the urgent need for increased vigilance. To help safeguard the community, Mdluli urged all retail stores to ensure that CCTV and alarm systems are in full working order. 'Properly functioning alarms can deter criminal activity and help alert authorities swiftly in case of emergencies,' he said. He added: 'We also caution the public to be extremely careful when making purchases through platforms like Facebook Marketplace.' 'Always verify sellers, use secure payment methods, and meet in public, well-monitored areas,' he advised. Mdluli also shared the following key safety tips to help prevent ATM and financial fraud: Never share your PIN with anyone and always shield the keypad when entering it. Watch for suspicious individuals or devices near ATMs. Be cautious of anyone standing too close while you transact. Contact the police immediately if you suspect fraudulent activity.
