Roswell selects firm to design, build new parking deck in historic downtown district

Yahoo30-03-2025

The City of Roswell is one step closer to making a parking deck a reality in downtown.
The Roswell City Council unanimously approved a design-build contract for the parking deck worth over $14.4 million this week.
Winter Construction will handle the design and construction of the new deck, which will be located in the historic downtown district at the corner of Green Street and Highway 9.
The city anticipates it will be completed by the summer of 2026.
Winter Construction was one of nine firms that submitted proposals for the new deck.
The parking deck will sit on the former site of the historic Roswell Masonic Hall.
The building, one of the oldest in Roswell, was built in 1859.
Originally, it was a Methodist Church before the Masonic Lodge took it over and renovated it in 1952.
The city used eminent domain to claim the lot so it could be converted into a pedestrian plaza and parking deck.

New Forest Park middle school won't be open in time for the school year

Clayton County Public Schools announced that the opening of the new Forest Park Middle School in August would be delayed as a result of 'unforeseen global supply chain disruptions.' Due to 'delays in the delivery of essential construction materials and equipment,' the Clayton County school district said it would not be able to finish construction on time for the start of the 2025-2026 school year. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] 'The district hopes to relocate these students to their new home on Finley Drive in Forest Park during the week of Fall Break, October 13-17, 2025,' officials said in a statement. Instead, students who are enrolled at FPMS will stay at their current, temporary school location, which the district said was Morrow High School on Old Rex Morrow Road. For students who were supposed to move to a swing space at the former Morrow High School, they will instead remain in classes at Fountain Elementary School until further notice. Smith, Superintendent/CEO of Schools, said in a statement. 'We are confident that the finished school will be worth the wait and will serve as a valuable asset to the Forest Park community for years to come.' Officials also apologized for the delay, with Ronick Joseph, Chief of Construction and SPLOST Management saying 'Delays in the delivery of key construction materials are, unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control. We are working diligently with our contractors and partners to complete Forest Park Middle School during the first semester of the 2025-2026 school year.' More updates will be shared by the school district as progress continues, officials said. [SIGN UP: WSB-TV Daily Headlines Newsletter]

Exotic car dealership suddenly no longer in service, clients seek answers

If you're driving down Beach Boulevard on Jacksonville's Southside, you'll pass Karma Automotive Dealership. Karma opened in Jacksonville in 2022. According to Sun Biz, it is owned by Vladimir 'Val' Ranguelov, who also owns Bul Auto Sales in Albany, New York. If you visit either of the dealerships' websites, a message pops up that reads: 'We regret to inform you we have ceased operations.' Read: Law Enforcement preparing for 'No Kings' protests across Northeast Florida this weekend Local television station, WNYT in Albany, contacted Action News Jax when it found out police there are investigating the dealership for potential fraud. Customers there claimed bank loans related to cars were never paid off. Shawn Branlund was a technician at Karma Jacksonville. On May 30th, He says he reached out to the owner after hearing of potential problems at the Albany location. 'He said to just come in on Monday, and we would talk about it, kind of explain what's going on,' Branlund said. 'On my end, I did come in on Monday to hopefully talk to the owner, Val, who never showed up, never got a hold of him. We ended up getting all our equipment out, just our personal belongings.' I spoke to a customer of Karma Jacksonville who told me he contacted JSO on June 5th because his car was missing from the dealership. Action News Jax obtained this video from that day that shows JSO and tow trucks taking the cars off the lot. Shawn says he never would have expected this from Val. 'He paid everyone really well, he was always taking us out on his boat, and taking us out to dinner. He's just a super nice guy, like, and definitely never saw this coming,' said Branlund. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< We reached out to JSO late this afternoon to get the report from the day they responded to the dealership, but we have not received the report yet. We reached out to the FBI in Jacksonville to find out if it had any active investigations in Karma Jacksonville. A spokesperson for the FBI Jacksonville says, 'The FBI does not confirm nor deny the existence or status of any investigation.' We tried to contact the owner directly at two different phone numbers, but were unable to get in contact with him [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks] [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter] Click here to download the free Action News Jax news and weather apps, click here to download the Action News Jax Now app for your smart TV and click here to stream Action News Jax live.
