When a global superstar like Ram Charan travels the world, dining at some of the finest restaurants across continents, fans often turn those spots into must-visit landmarks. Yet, despite his global lifestyle, the RRR actor's heart and taste buds remain firmly rooted in home. No matter where he is, Ram Charan follows one non-negotiable rule: at least one home-cooked Indian meal a day, just like his father, legendary actor Chiranjeevi. And not just any Indian meal, it must be a hearty South Indian spread, lovingly made, with rasam and rice always taking precedence over risotto and ravioli.
During a recent conversation with Curly Tales, his wife, entrepreneur and Vice-Chairperson of Apollo Charity, Upasana Kamineni, revealed the story behind his unwavering food ritual – and how it inspired her latest venture, Athamma's Kitchen.
Upasana shared that even after indulgent meals at Michelin-starred restaurants, Ram would inevitably say, 'Okay, now I need Indian food." This craving could strike at any time – sometimes as late as 11:30 p.m. – prompting the couple to hunt for South Indian food in faraway cities. And for Ram, authenticity was key: it had to be home-style, especially during hectic shooting schedules.
To make life easier during their travels, Upasana began packing dry, ready-to-cook South Indian mixes on trips. What started as a personal travel hack soon grew into a full-fledged brand. Athamma's Kitchen, launched in 2024, now brings the Konidela family's treasured recipes to fans worldwide, recreating wholesome, comforting meals in just ten minutes.
The brand draws its name and inspiration from Ram's mother, Surekha (affectionately called Athamma), who once prepared upma, pongal, and other pre-mixes for Chiranjeevi to carry on his film shoots. Today, those same time-tested recipes form the heart of Athamma's Kitchen's menu. For Ram, the favourite is still a humble combination: tangy, health-boosting rasam with a protein-rich onion-and-chilli omelette.
On the personal front, Ram Charan and Upasana's love story goes back to their college days. The two tied the knot in December 2011, and in 2023, they welcomed their daughter, Klin Kaara Konidela. Professionally, Ram was last seen in Game Changer and is now gearing up for his next big release, Peddi.
From movie sets to foreign shores, one thing is certain no matter how far Ram Charan travels, a plate of rasam and rice will always taste like home.

He wrote, 'Congratulations to Thiru Rajinikanth Ji on completing 50 glorious years in the world of cinema. His journey has been iconic, with his diverse roles having left a lasting impact on the minds of people across generations. Wishing him continued success and good health in the times to come.' PM Modi also posted the same message in Tamil. This gesture deeply resonated with fans across Tamil Nadu and beyond. Rajinikanth's Warm Reply The superstar responded with gratitude, saying: 'Respected @narendramodi Modi ji, I am deeply grateful for your warm wishes. It is truly an honour to receive them from a leader I have long held in the highest regard. Thank you for your kind words. Jai Hind.' Besides, PM of India, film fraternity also joined the celebration and poured in love for him. Kamal Haasan wrote on X, 'Marking half a century of cinematic brilliance, my dear friend @rajinikanth celebrates 50 glorious years in cinema today. I wish #Coolie resounding global success befitting this golden jubilee.' Malayalam superstar Mohanlal too extended his wishes, calling it '50 years of unmatched charisma, dedication, and magic on screen' while hoping for 'many more memorable moments ahead.' Director-producer Vignesh Shivan recalled his first meeting with the legend, writing: 'First time I met you, couldn't stop tearing up! Thalaiva… everyone who knows you loves you! Being a star and being the human you are makes all this love justified! 50 years of entertainment, style, and love from loyal fans.' Rajinikanth's cinematic journey Rajinikanth's ventured into the world of cinema in the year 1975 with K. Balachander's Apoorva Raagangal. Although, he played a brief role in the film, it was quite impactful. Now, after five decades, the superstar is 74 and still continues to command a cult following unmatched in Indian cinema.

New Delhi: Fifty years after 'Sholay' blazed onto the silver screen, the rocky hills of Karnataka's Ramanagara district still seem to hold its spirit -- the tyranny of Gabbar Singh, the camaraderie between Jai and Veeru, and Basanti's never-ending chatter. The cult classic about two small-time criminals who are hired by a vengeful ex-policeman to capture the ruthless dacoit Gabbar Singh was released in theatres on August 15, 1975 and forever changed Indian cinema. The action-adventure movie, directed by Ramesh Sippy from a script penned by iconic writers Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, was praised for its gripping storytelling, powerful dialogues and unforgettable characters played by Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar and Amjad Khan. For Ramadevara Betta, the granite-strewn hillscape in Ramanagara that doubled as the fictional village of 'Ramgarh', the film etched itself into the very soul of the land. The rugged terrain of Ramadevara Betta (hill in Kannada) served as the backdrop for Gabbar Singh's lair. It was the stage for some of Hindi cinema's most quotable scenes, including the one where the menacing Gabbar asks his henchmen, 'Kitne aadmi the?' Filming began in October 1973 and lasted nearly two-and-a-half years, with an entire township built for the shoot and a road constructed from the Bangalore-Mysore highway to the sets. The production transformed the area, with locals still recalling the nearly three-year-long presence of the cast and crew. Many also got a chance to be in front of the cameras as background characters. Among them was Boramma, who was just seven when she faced the camera for a small role in 'Sholay'. 'I still remember everything. There's a scene with Hema Malini and Dharmendra in the mango orchards, it was filmed here. On the other side was the village. It used to be a dense forest, but for the film, they converted it into a village. 'After 'Sholay', many more movies were shot here. Ramadevara became famous because of 'Sholay'. The shoot went on for three years. They built roads for filming and all the Gabbar Singh scenes were done here,' Boramma, who is now in her 50s, told PTI. Another local Bettayya said his parents worked on the sets during the shooting. 'I was 15 years old. My parents worked on the sets. I don't remember too many details of the shoot, but they used to give us good food. Dharmendra would give Rs 100 to the elderly. There used to be a narrow road to the betta, but they constructed a proper mud road for the shoot. Later, the Forest Department turned it into a tar road,' he recalled. 'Because of Sholay, our village, community, and district are still remembered in the whole of India. Our government has made all those places good tourism spots, and people come from all over India to see them,' one person said. They are also proud of the film's success and its lasting impact on Indian cinema. ''The film that was shot here fifty years ago has spread the name of Amitabh Bachchan and Ramnagar far and wide,' a local said.

Actor and politician Kangana Ranaut has once again stirred conversation with her comments on modern dating culture and live-in relationships. What's Happening In a recent interview with Hauterrfly, Kangana criticised dating apps and expressed concern over how dating and live-in setups are, in her view, eroding Indian culture. When asked if she would ever consider creating a profile on a dating app, Kangana responded, "I have never wanted to be on dating apps. That is the true 'gutter' of our society. Everybody has a need, be it financial, physical, or anything else." She elaborated further, saying, "Every woman and man has needs, but how do we address them? That is the question. Do we do it in an elegant manner, or do we do it more crudely, like har raat nikal jaana (leaving home every night) in search of someone? That is what dating is now, and it's a horrible situation." Continuing her criticism of dating culture, she added, "For me it's a neech (lower) thing to do. I can't even think of coming in contact with such people." When the host responded by saying, "I don't judge; if someone wants to do it, they can," Kangana countered, "Why are you saying this? Because you are afraid of someone trolling you for having that opinion. Would you wish the same for your younger brother or sister? I don't think any regular person who doesn't have any issues would like to go on a dating app. People who desire validation and lack confidence go to such places. You find good people in the offices you work with, or the colleges you study at, or in the partners that your parents find for you for an arranged marriage." She then stated that dating apps are populated by people who she believes are not successful in life. "You wouldn't find people like me on dating apps. You'll only find losers there, the people who haven't achieved anything in their life... If you haven't been able to meet anyone in office, through your parents and relatives, and you've ended up on a dating app, imagine what sort of character you are," she said. Kangana Ranaut On Live-In Relationships The conversation then shifted to live-in relationships. Kangana expressed her disapproval of the concept, stating that some institutions like marriage should remain unchanged and that live-in relationships pose risks for women. "Marriages are very important in our society, and it is the promise that the man makes to stay loyal to his wife. These days you hear about new ideas such as live-in relationships. Throughout my life, I have been in relationships, and I have seen other people who indulge in such things, but I can assure you that these are not women-friendly things. Who's going to help you get an abortion? If you get pregnant tomorrow during a live-in relationship, who is going to take care of you?" said Kangana. When it was pointed out that live-in relationships are legal, Kangana replied by stating that many laws are designed to protect women. "No matter how much we empower ourselves or educate ourselves with books and surveys, scientifically speaking, men can compartmentalise and women can't," she said.
