Cision Canada15-07-2025
PRINCE ALBERT, SK, July 15, 2025 /CNW/ - Solving Canada's housing crisis requires immediate action to bring down costs. To provide Canadians with increased access to affordable and sustainable housing, the governments of Canada and Saskatchewan today announced funding of $3.76 million to help build a new transitional housing apartment for individuals in need in Prince Albert, with a focus on women experiencing hardship. This low-rise apartment will provide affordable and supportive housing and will offer temporary accommodation and aims to assist individuals in moving from challenging circumstances toward stability, well-being and independence.
Developed by YWCA Prince Albert, the multi-million-dollar project will add 20 one-bedroom units to the city, which will contain 10 bachelor units, eight one-bedroom units, two one-bedroom barrier-free units and a common area for services. The property will be located on 18 th Street West and the units are expected to be completed in early 2027.
YWCA Prince Albert is a non-profit organization providing shelter, supportive housing, and assistance to marginalized populations to help break the cycle of poverty. For this project, YWCA Prince Albert (YWCA) plans to give priority tenancy to women transitioning from YWCA programs, which includes women and youth at risk of violence and homelessness and young mothers. Tenants will receive support services through YWCA Prince Albert's various programs.
As we build a strong Canadian housing sector, purposeful collaboration will be essential. That means working hand-in-hand with the non-profit sector to bring down costs and build homes at a scale and speed not seen since the Second World War.
Quotes:
"These homes being built by YWCA Prince Albert will provide individuals in need a safe space and peace of mind. The federal government is committed to supporting communities across the country in ensuring every Canadian has a place to call home." – The Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for Pacific Economic Development Canada
"This investment will provide vulnerable women with a safe, supportive place to call home and hope for a brighter future. With strong support of community partners, we are happy to see construction begin on this new transitional housing development that will provide stability and life-changing support for women in need," – The Honourable Terry Jenson, Minister of Social Services and Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC)
"We are glad to be starting construction on this much-needed project in partnership with the municipal, provincial, and federal governments. Between rising costs and low housing supply in Prince Albert, finding appropriate housing is challenging, particularly on limited or fixed incomes. Our new twenty-unit low-income housing build will help to address some of the gaps we're seeing for individuals and families living in the lower income brackets. We will be providing support as needed through our Community Connection Centre for things such as employment assistance, renter information, and more." -- Donna Brooks, YWCA Prince Albert CEO.
"We're pleased to support this important initiative. Affordable housing is a vital part of a healthy community, and this project is an important step toward ensuring everyone in Prince Albert has access to safe, stable housing," – Michael Nelson, Planning and Development Manager, City of Prince Albert.

Balancing Automation with Human Support Key to AI-Driven CX, Says Info-Tech Research Group

Newly released insights from Info-Tech Research Group reveal that over-relying on automation can erode customer trust. To help organizations implement AI without losing the human element, the global IT research and advisory firm has published a step-by-step resource for enhancing customer experience through strategic, outcome-driven AI implementation. TORONTO, July 23, 2025 /CNW/ - Rising service costs, disjointed customer journeys, and growing customer impatience are forcing many organizations to rethink how they scale personalization in customer experience. New research from global research and advisory firm Info-Tech Research Group shows that AI can be transformative for customer experience (CX) when used strategically and intentionally. The firm's studies suggest that meaningful improvements come from balancing automation with human support and aligning technology closely with desired customer outcomes. To support this approach, Info-Tech's recently published resource, Implement AI for Customer Experience, provides a comprehensive framework designed to help organizations improve both customer and employee experiences. Rather than pursuing automation for its own sake, the firm's industry experts encourage CX and IT leaders to use AI to anticipate customer needs, support staff with intelligent tools, and personalize service at scale while maintaining the human touch. "AI presents an extraordinary opportunity to redefine how organizations connect with their customers, turning routine interactions into high-value experiences that drive loyalty and growth," says Ryan Brunet, principal research director at Info-Tech Research Group. "By leveraging advanced capabilities like predictive analytics, sentiment detection, hyperpersonalization, and embedding AI within their contact center, companies can anticipate customer needs, resolve issues proactively, and build lasting brand advocacy." Info-Tech's insights highlight the challenges organizations face as they strive to balance cost-efficiency with customer satisfaction. The comprehensive resource details that relying too heavily on automation, such as call deflection and fast self-service, can result in shallow customer interactions that ultimately damage trust. To succeed in delivering meaningful, AI-powered customer experiences, the firm's research findings suggest CX and IT leaders track key performance indicators and user feedback in real-time, then refine AI capabilities regularly to stay aligned with shifting customer needs and strategic goals. Brunet, Info-Tech's AI expert and author of the blueprint, notes that "while AI has the potential to reshape the CX, its success depends on tying efforts to meaningful customer outcomes and ensuring teams are fully prepared to support the transformation." In its Implement AI for Customer Experience resource, Info-Tech outlines the key advantages of using AI to enhance CX within organizations: Operations Efficiency: Automated tools undertake repetitive tasks such as responding to common inquiries, routing service tickets, and flagging urgent cases. With faster access to relevant customer data, frontline teams can make quicker, more informed decisions. Business Growth: Behavioral analytics and intelligent personalization can reveal customer preferences and anticipate future needs. With these insights, organizations can deliver timely, personalized offers that strengthen retention and unlock new revenue through upselling and cross-selling. Customer Experience: AI systems tailor interactions based on customer history and context, which can enable instant support through chatbots or virtual agents. Faster resolutions and more relevant experiences help build long-term customer loyalty. Employee Experience: By using AI to handle repetitive tasks and deliver real-time insights, employees are able to focus on complex issues that require human judgment. This shift can reduce stress, boost engagement, and improve overall performance among staff. Risk and Resilience: With early issue detection and proactive responses, AI can help organizations manage disruptions, while data-backed strategies build adaptable, future-ready service models. "The future is bright for CX leaders who fully embrace the transformative potential of AI," explains Brunet."With the right strategic alignment, AI becomes more than a piece of the technology puzzle; it becomes the catalyst for deeper engagement, stronger loyalty, and sustainable growth." Canadian return trips from the U.S. fell nearly 32% in May: StatCan

The growing trend of Canadians avoiding the United States for travel is still going strong, according to new data from Statistics Canada. It's a pattern that's been consistent for multiple months in a row as the trade war has shifted the mindset of travellers from Canada and around the world. Statistics Canada said on Wednesday that trips by Canadian residents returning from the U.S. in May fell 31.9 per cent compared with May 2024, and that's the fifth straight monthly year-over-year decline, while return trips from overseas increased by 8.9 per cent. The report also shows that Canadians overall are travelling abroad less in 2025 than in previous years, with a 22.5 per cent decrease in trips outside the country's borders in May 2025 compared with the same period a year ago, which marks the fifth consecutive monthly year-over-year decline. Story continues below advertisement When looking month to month, May saw a decrease in trips abroad by just over three per cent from April. Fewer Americans are taking trips to Canada as well, with May marking the fourth straight monthly drop in U.S. resident visitors, falling by 5.6 per cent compared with the same month in 2024. 2:03 European, Canadian cities popular destinations for summer travel: Pearson airport What is leading to these travel changes? Ever since the start of the trade war and U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs, Canadian views of their southern neighbour have soured. Story continues below advertisement This may be rooted more in a sense of 'betrayal' by the Trump administration and tariffs, as the U.S. has long been Canada's closest ally in both trade, tourism and defence. When some Canadians have the option to travel abroad, they may be looking more than before to places like Europe instead of the U.S., according to Statistics Canada. Canadian resident trips by air from overseas countries increased by 9.3 per cent in May 2025 compared with one year earlier. That compares with a 17.4 per cent drop in trips by Canadian residents by air from the U.S., and a 37.4 per cent drop in trips by automobile from the U.S. This boost in travel demand to places like Europe has been echoed by data from airlines and airports, and comes as more and more Canadians are choosing to travel domestically. Canadians have responded to the trade war tensions with a renewed sense of patriotism that focuses on the local economy, where Canadians are being more particular about where their loonies are being spent. Many are prioritizing supporting locally made and sourced products and services wherever possible. Story continues below advertisement The Canada Strong Pass was developed by the federal government as a way to make it easier for Canadians to access national parks, museums, galleries and Via Rail for free or at a reduced cost. When first announced, Prime Minister Mark Carney, then the Liberal party leader, said the Canada Strong Pass was being launched 'at a time when our economy is under attack from President Trump.' Carney added: 'We are a proud country – and united, we will strengthen our Canadian identity in the face of this crisis.'

Mali refuses to free detained staff of Canadian company Reuters

Four local executives of Barrick have been held since their arrest in November on suspicion of financial crimes A court in Mali has rejected a request for the conditional release of four employees of Barrick Mining Corporation, who have been detained since 2024 on accusations of money laundering and financing terrorism. The decision was announced on Tuesday by the company's lawyer, Alifa Habib Kone, according to Reuters. The Canadian mining giant has dismissed the allegations as baseless and filed an appeal challenging what it described as the employees' "arbitrary" detention. However, Kone said Judge Samba Sarr deemed the petition "unfounded." Barrick, one of the world's largest gold producers, has operated in Mali for nearly three decades, but relations have deteriorated amid a dispute over alleged unpaid taxes and royalties. Tensions escalated in November when four local executives were detained and a warrant was issued for CEO Mark Bristow. Recent negotiations broke down after the Malian authorities demanded a lump-sum payment of 125 billion CFA francs ($197 million) in unpaid revenues, while Barrick proposed a structured payment plan instead. Last month, Mali's military-led government temporarilystrippedBarrick of control over operations at the Loulo-Gounkoto gold complex in the country's west. A court in Bamako ordered that management of the site be transferred to a state-appointed provisional administrator for a six-month period. Barrick denounced the ruling as illegal and a breach of its contractual agreements, and has filed a case against Mali with the World Bank's arbitration tribunal. According to Bloomberg, the authorities in the Sahel state seized around a ton of gold from the mine earlier this month, which the provisional administration is expected to sell to fund the site's operations. The Loulo-Gounkoto mines are 80% owned by Barrick and 20% by the Malian government. In 2023, the former French colony introduced a new mining code allowing the state to claim up to a 30% stake in new projects, as part of efforts to boost public revenues. In June, Mali's economy and finance minister, Alousseni Sanou, stated that a newagreementwith Russia's Yadran Group to establish a gold refinery - 62% owned by the state - would help increase national income from bullion production.
