Has Pakistan unleashed ‘death squad' on Balochistan? Activist questions killing of Baloch campaigner
On the doomed morning of June 30, the family of Zeeshan Zaheer found the dead body of the Baloch activist, a day after he was allegedly abducted by a state-backed 'death squad'. The young man, Zeeshan Ahmed who changed his name to Zeeshan Zaheer, after his father disappeared when he was 11, and was demanding the release of his father while waiting for admission in a university. It was at this juncture, he was swept away by the notorious Pakistani security nexus.

Zeeshan's father Zaheer Ahmed was abducted by Pakistan's Frontier Corps in 2015, while his sister Adeeba was a newborn. Local media reports said Zeeshan went missing on June 29, and his body was recovered the next day.
In a conversation with Firstpost, a prominent Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) activist, who requested anonymity citing security concerns, shared details about the case and alleged that Pakistani state-backed 'death squads' have taken over Balochistan.
A son's search for his father ends on a bad note
The BYC activist told Firstpost that Zeeshan, along with his sister Adeeba, was a prominent Baloch activist. They were campaigning for the peaceful release of their father. 'They were raising their voices, joining protests and taking part in every single rally. Zeeshan was an active part of the Long March that was carried out in November 2023 against four disappearances. During March, he was assaulted and became a target of violence,' the Baloch activist told Firstpost.
The BYC member detailed what happened the day he was abducted. 'He has been vocal about all types of enforced disappearances every day. A few days ago, Zeeshan was coming from a football match, where he played as the goalkeeper. After the match, he was on his way home when, in the middle, state-backed death squads, a private militia of the state, came in a black vehicle, with dark-tinted glasses, abducted Zeeshan,' she said.
Soon after the news reached Zeeshan's family, they started protesting on the highway and blocking any kind of transportation, the BYC activist told Firstpost. 'Unfortunately, the next morning, they were called by the police, and Zeeshan's family found his body filled with bullets near their house,' the Baloch activist said.
The horrors of 'Death Squads' in Balochistan
During the conversation with Firstpost, the Baloch activist spoke about the rise of state-backed death squads in the region. 'In Balochistan, the state is not only using security forces and police to kill and intimidate people, but they are also using illegal ways by supporting private militias and villains of the society to do the same,' the activist said.
'These villains get money and every resource they need from the state, and they can pick up anyone, they can kill anyone. So, this way, the state avoids criticisms.'
'Before this, the state itself was using the methods of the death squad. The people who are part of these squads are Baloch people, they are actually from our society, but they are like villains, they are like serious killers, so such people need to be in prison,' she said.

The Baloch activist maintained that these 'death squad' members are open to 'kidnap anyone, they can kill anyone, they can, if they like a woman, they can abduct a woman, they can do anything they want, they rape anyone, no police or institution can take actions against them'.
'They are the favourite people of ISI, they have been committing a lot of war crimes for 15-20 years. They also state find it convenient because they don't need to do so much, no need to pay a lot.'
The BYC activist said these death squad members have engaged in smuggling drugs and other illegal activities. Zeeshan is one of many Baloch civilians who have lost their lives at the hands of these death squads, the activist said.

PIB fact check exposes false Pakistan propaganda, alleging
New Delhi [India], July 7 (ANI): The PIB fact check has debunked the false claims made by a Pakistani propaganda account on the alleged loss of lives of four IAF pilots, including three Rafale pilots. The Pakistani social media is spreading the false narrative, which was amplified more amid Operation Sindoor. According to the PIB fact check post, it stated that, 'The Government of India has issued NO such statement.' 'India Admits Rafale Pilot Loss? - Here's the truth behind this claim: Several Pakistani propaganda handles are spreading false claims that India has officially confirmed the loss of 4 IAF pilots, including those flying 3 Rafale jets. FAKE ALERT! The Government of India has not issued such a statement. There is no truth to these rumours. Don't fall for misinformation. Always cross-verify with official sources before believing or sharing such claims.' The PIB fact-checking unit wrote on X. The image showcased an X-post of Mansoor Ahmed Qureshi and the Daily CPEC, claiming that four indian pilots lost their lives. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 as a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed. Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the death of over 100 terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen. India used Rafale jets armed with SCALP missiles and HAMMER bombs to target nine terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir on May 7. The Indian Air Force completed the mission in just 23 minutes without any losses, exposing the weaknesses of Pakistan's air defence systems, the sources said. After the attack, Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control and Jammu and Kashmir as well as attempted drone attacks along the border regions, following which India launched a coordinated attack and damaged radar infrastructure, communication centres and airfields across 11 airbases in Pakistan. Following this, on May 10, an agreement was announced regarding the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan. (ANI)

Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is Pakistani agent, ISI funds him: Delhi Minister Sirsa
New Delhi [India], July 7 (ANI): Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has said that Khalistani extremist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is a Pakistani agent, and Pakistan's Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) funds him. In an interview with ANI, BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa talked about the government's initiatives for the welfare of the Sikh community. He also spoke about the Delhi government's decision to seek a pause on CAQM directives for no fuel to end-of-life vehicles. Answering a query, he said Pannun capitalises on media reporting some of his remarks, and nobody really cares for what he says. 'Gurpatwant Singh Pannun shouts and some TV channels play it. When he speaks in Canada, even a sparrow does not feel afraid. When the media reports his remarks, he feels like a hero and gets some funds. He is Pakistani agent and ISI funds him,' Sirsa said. Sirsa also talked about a protest against Indian government during his visit to US as a office-bearer of Gurdwara Prabhandhak Committee and said he had been informed that Pakistan Embassy pays people to protest. He said when he confronted protesters bout their grouse, they started running away. 'Such people create hatred as their shops run from it,' he said. Pannun has been declared a 'designated individual terrorist' by the Centre and is wanted in India on terror charges. Answering queries, Sirsa dismissed claims that BJP does not get votes of his community in a significant manner. 'During Delhi Elections, in my constituency 36% voters are Sikh and I received 85% votes, I won with a margin of more than 18,000 votes. Other parties also want this propaganda that Sikhs don't vote for BJP,' Sirsa said. He also slammed Congress over the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. He said atrocities were also committed against women and said the then Congress leader Sajjan Kumar, who was convicted for the riots, had been given 'Z plus security'. He said the government is acting firmly against Rohingyas and other illegal immigrants. 'Hum ukhaad ukhaad kar fenk rahe hain inhe...I will not let them live in my region. This country belongs to the Indians, and only Indians are allowed to live here. If someone wants to visit India as a guest, they are welcome here. But if someone poses a danger to our will not let them stay here. If Arvind Kejriwal wants, he can keep them in his house,' he said. Answering another query, Sirsa referred to probes against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and some other AAP leaders and said they will face 'consequences of their misdeeds' before he next elections. 'We never made fake allegations, because of this, the case was registered in ACB (Anti-Corruption Bureau)...An FIR has been lodged against Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain. Yesterday also, Satyendar Jain was with the ED in a case related to the Delhi Jal Board...I would like to confirm that we will conclude the trials of all pending cases within the next 5 the next elections, Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain and corrupt people will face the consequences of their misdeeds,' he said. 'Welfare Schemes For All': Kiren Rijiju, Asaduddin Owaisi Spar On X Over Minority Rights
Last Updated: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi clashed on X over former's claim that minorities in India enjoy more benefits than the majority. Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday engaged in war of words on X (formerly Twitter) after the BJP leader claimed that minorities in India enjoy more benefits and protections than the majority. While discussing the performance of his ministry on the completion of 11 years of Modi government in the Centre, Rijiju told the Indian Express Rijiju said in the interview that in the last 11 years, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has championed the principle of ' Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas '. During the interview he claimed that India is the only country where minorities enjoy more benefits than the majority. ' INDIA is the only country where the minorities get more benefits and protections than the majority community," Rijiju said in a post on X while sharing the interview. INDIA is the only country where the minorities get more benefits and protections than the majority community! — Kiren Rijiju (@KirenRijiju) July 7, 2025 'The approach has ensured that minority communities are active and equal participants in India's growth story. The main point we have to understand is that minority communities are receiving more funds and support from the government than the majority community, the Hindus. Whatever the Hindus get, the minorities also do. But what the minorities get, the Hindus don't," Rijiju told the national daily. In a long post on the microblogging platform, Owaisi said Rijiju was not showing the true picture of what Indian Muslims go through and reminded him to follow his duties as a minister under the Constitution. In a strong response, the AIMIM chief said that Rijiju was speaking like a 'monarch' instead of someone holding a constitutional post. 'You are a Minister of the Indian Republic, not a monarch Kiren Rijiju. You hold a constitutional post, not a throne. Minority rights are fundamental rights, not charity," he said. He questioned Rijiju's idea of 'benefits' by pointing to the abuse and violence Muslims face. 'Is it a 'benefit' to be called Pakistani, Bangladeshi, jihadi, or Rohingya every single day? Is it 'protection' to be lynched? Is it protection that Indian citizens were kidnapped and pushed into Bangladesh?" Owaisi questioned. Owaisi further raised concerns over the bulldozing of Muslim properties. 'Is it a privilege to watch our homes, masjids, and mazaars being bulldozed illegally? To be made socially, politically, and economically invisible?" he added. 'Is it an 'honour' to be the target of hate speeches from no less than the Prime Minister of India?" he said. Owaisi claimed that Muslims in India were no longer treated equally as citizens. 'India's minorities are not even second-class citizens anymore. We are hostages," he said. Alleging that Rijiju should answer why there is no religious parity in board memberships, he said, 'If you want to talk about 'favours', answer this: can Muslims be members of Hindu Endowment Boards? No. But your Waqf Amendment Act forces non-Muslims onto Waqf Boards — and allows them to form a majority." The AIMIM leader further accused the Modi government of slashing key scholarships for Muslim students. He cited government data and said that Muslims are being left behind. 'You discontinued the Maulana Azad National Fellowship. You defunded the pre-matric scholarship. You limited the post-matric and merit-cum-means scholarships. All because they benefited Muslim students," he added. 'Muslims are now the only group whose numbers have fallen in higher education. Their presence in the informal economy has gone up. They have been among the worst-hit by your economic policies. This is your own govt's data," he added. Furthermore, Owaisi said Muslim families are seeing a decline in progress across generations. 'Indian Muslims are the only group whose children are now worse off than their parents or grandparents. Intergenerational mobility has reversed. Muslim-concentrated areas are the ones most starved of public infrastructure and basic services," he stated. 'We are not asking to be compared with other minorities of other countries. We are not asking for more than what the majority community gets. We are demanding what the Constitution promises: social, economic, and political justice," he concluded. Rijiju's Responds To Owaisi The Union Minister later responded to the Hyderabad MP's allegations saying that if the minorities are living in pathetic condition in India then why a major section of the minorities from the neighbouring countries prefer to come to India. 'Ok… How come Minorities from our neighbouring countries prefer to come to India & our Minorities don't migrate? Prime Minister @narendramodi ji's welfare schemes are for all. The schemes of the Ministry of Minority Affairs provide additional benefits to the Minorities," Rijiju responded. Owaisi Responds To Rijiju The Hyderabad MP soon responded to the Union Minister over migration of minorities and said that according to Rijiju, if the minorities don't migrate it means they are happy. 'According to Hon'ble Minister Against Minorities, if we don't migrate it means we are happy. Actually, we are not in the habit of fleeing: we did not run away from the British, we did not run away during partition, and we did not run away because of Jammu, Nellie, Gujarat, Moradabad, Delhi etc massacres. Our history is proof that we neither collaborate with our oppressors nor do we hide from them. We know how to fight for our democratic rights and we will inshallah. Stop comparing our great nation with failed states like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal & Sri Lanka. Jai Hind, Jai Samvidhan! Thank you for your attention in this matter!" he said. top videos View all According to Hon'ble Minister Against Minorities, if we don't migrate it means we are happy.
