Red Sox CBO Criag Breslow Has 'Confidence' In Alex Cora Amid Hot Seat Rumors
Red Sox CBO Criag Breslow Has 'Confidence' In Alex Cora Amid Hot Seat Rumors originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Boston Red Sox have gotten off to a disappointing start to the 2025 season. Despite having the organizational talent to compete for a postseason berth, the team is falling in the standings, sitting at 30-34 through the first two months of the season. That start has put Red Sox manager Alex Cora on the hot seat.

During The Greg Hill Show on WEEI, Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow was asked about whether Cora was on the hot seat or not. Breslow expressed confidence in Cora amid the team's slow start and believes Cora can help turn this season around.
"We're always going to be anchored to what is best for the team, and we have a lot of confidence in Alex as the leader of this group," said Breslow. "We have conversations daily about everything that we can do to get us back on track. That's where our main focus is, and that's where it will remain."
Breslow was then asked a follow-up question of whether he believes Cora has what it takes to help turn the Red Sox's season around. His answer was short and clear: "I do."

Cora has been the center of attention for the Red Sox for a multitude of reasons. The team, since May 24th, has lost eight of their 11 games. In the American League East, the Red Sox sit nine games behind the New York Yankees and are currently four games behind the last Wild Card spot in the American League.

Facing an uphill battle to make the postseason, Cora and the Red Sox need to turn things around quickly. While there has been speculation over whether Cora should be fired or not, Breslow's answer all but shuts down the possibility of Cora getting fired mid-season.
At least, for now. The Red Sox are still within striking distance of the postseason, and a turnaround will right all wrongs for Boston. But, between the losing record and the frustration surrounding the call-up of Roman Anthony, Cora isn't in the good graces of the Red Sox fandom.
While some believe Cora is on the hot seat, Breslow's comments on Cora indicate that they don't plan to make any changes for some time. For now, Cora has the trust of his front office to turn things around, and a slightly cooler seat.

Yankees vs. Red Sox: Historic MLB rivalry by the numbers
The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will square off for the first time in the 2025 MLB season in a three-game series at Yankee Stadium from June 6-8. Game 2 of the series will be on Saturday night at 7:35 p.m. ET on FOX and the FOX Sports app. Of course, the pair of American League East foes make for the most historic rivalry in baseball and one of the best in the history of professional sports. From playoff showdowns to in-game brawls to superstars changing teams, the Yankees and Red Sox have an endless history with each other. Furthermore, a trio of FOX MLB Studio Analysts were once at the heart of that rivalry: Derek Jeter, David Ortiz and Alex Rodriguez. Here's a historical look at the Yankees' and Red Sox' rivalry by the numbers. 2: Both teams have sported two different names, as the Boston Red Sox were the Boston Americans from 1901-07 before becoming the Red Sox, and the New York Yankees were the New York Highlanders from 1903-1912 before becoming the Yankees. 3A: The Yankees led the Red Sox 3-0 in the 2004 American League Championship Series. And then the unthinkable happened: The Red Sox won four games in a row, including two in extra innings, to advance. It marked the first time in MLB history that a team came back down 3-0 to win a series and the first time the Red Sox beat the Yankees in a playoff series. Just days later, Boston won the World Series for the first time since 1918. It stands as the only time a team has overcome a 3-0 series lead. 3B: The Red Sox have won each of their last three postseason matchups against the Yankees (2004 ALCS, 2018 ALDS and 2021 AL wild-card game). 3C: The Yankees and Red Sox went .500 against each other in the regular season for three consecutive seasons: 9-9 in 2008, 2009 and 2010. 5A: The two teams have faced each other five times in the postseason, with the Yankees winning the 1999 and 2003 ALCS, and the Red Sox winning the next three matchups (2004, 2018 and 2021). 5B: Red Sox manager Alex Cora spent four seasons with his franchise as a player (2005-08), and Yankees manager Aaron Boone spent one season with his franchise as a player (2003); the two combined for five seasons as a player with their respective teams. However, had Boone not torn his ACL in the 2004 offseason, his stint with the Yankees may have lasted longer, as the franchise proceeded to acquire 2003 AL MVP Alex Rodriguez from the Texas Rangers to play third base, Boone's position. The Red Sox also had trade talks with the Rangers about trading for Rodriguez. 11: Speaking of Boone, the Yankees acquired the third baseman from the Cincinnati Reds during the 2003 season. In Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS against the Red Sox, the Yankees mounted their infamous comeback that cost Boston manager Grady Little his job, and sent the game to extra innings. And on the first pitch of the bottom of the 11th inning, Boone launched a walk-off home run to left field, sending the Yankees to the World Series. 163: In 1978, 162 games couldn't decide the AL East, so a Game 163 was required to determine whether the Yankees or Red Sox would claim the division. Trailing 2-0 in the top of the seventh inning, Yankees shortstop Bucky Dent hit a go-ahead three-run home run over the Green Monster in left field to put the Bronx Bombers ahead, and they later sealed the deal to win the AL East. While more runs would be scored by both teams, Dent's homer remains the signature moment of Game 163 and earned Dent a forever nickname in New England: Bucky "F------" Dent. And two weeks later, the Yankees won the 1978 World Series. 251: Several superstars and Hall of Famers played for both the Yankees and Red Sox. For instance, Wade Boggs and Roger Clemens each spent a substantial chunk of their respective careers with the Red Sox. However, they later ended up with the Yankees and hoisting up the Commissioner's Trophy in pinstripes (Boggs was on the Yankees' 1996 World Series team and Clemens was on the Yankees' 1999 and 2000 World Series teams), while Johnny Damon won a World Series with both clubs (Boston in 2004 and New York in 2009). Red Ruffing, Herb Pennock and Carl Mays are also among those to play for both franchises for a prolonged period, with 251 players total suiting up for both franchises. 500: Fascinatingly enough, of the 24 combined playoff games the Yankees and Red Sox have played against each other, the two teams are .500 (12-12). 1919: Of course, another individual to play for both teams was Babe Ruth, who the Red Sox traded to the Yankees in 1919 against the backdrop of financial issues. Ruth had already won three World Series with the Red Sox, but he then went on to win four more titles with the Yankees and became the best player to ever suit up for the franchise. In fact, Ruth is first in Yankees history with a 142.8 WAR, 659 home runs and a .349 batting average. Oof. 2,311: The two teams have faced off a combined 2,311 times (regular season plus postseason), with the Yankees entering June 6 with a 1,245-1,028-14 record in the all-time series. Cowboys BREAKING With Micah Parsons Surprise Arrival at OTAs
Cowboys BREAKING With Micah Parsons Surprise Arrival at OTAs originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO - We were given no indication from the Dallas Cowboys pass-rushing linebacker Micah Parsons would be showing up to work on Thursday. Advertisement So we will work on the assumption that they are as mildly surprised - and wildly pleased - to see him striding into The Star, his recent travel plans behind him. While a new deal has been discussed and per reporting maybe valued at more than $40 million APY and thought to last around five years, so far, there have been no substantial developments between Micah and the Cowboys regarding the finalization of an extension. Yes, ideas have been pitched back and forth, but the longer it goes without getting done, the more fans shift nervously and angrily in their seats. Training camp looms as a "real" deadline in negotiations for Micah and Dallas, with Parsons stating that it is crucial for him to have a deal in place by the time he arrives in Oxnard. Advertisement Given the magnitude of the deal and the player, it is no surprise that Micah's contract getting done is the biggest training camp storyline for Dallas as the late-July move to Oxnard awaits. As of Tuesday morning here inside The Star? No, Parsons was not present ... and coach Brian Schottenheimer was unconcerned. "We talked a couple of days ago,'' the coach said, adding that he "assumes'' Parsons will be in the building for upcoming mandatory work. Ah, but wait ... At about 2:10 p.m. ... shortly after the end of practice ... here came Micah down the hallway, as noted by colleague Saad Yousuf ... Parsons, who just turned 26 years old, is arguably the the best pass rusher in football. The idea of him earning a $200 million contract - maybe the biggest non-QB deal ever - is almost inevitable. Advertisement Is a camp absence inevitable, too? With the contracts of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb dragging through training camp last offseason, Parsons won't want to suffer a similar fate. So far, Parsons has been in and out of OTAs, and being voluntary, there's nothing wrong with that, although in an ideal world, he would attend. Mandatory mini camp is just around the corner - another "deadline'' on June 10 - and Micah is expected to attend, but in what capacity is unknown. Dallas has had a solid offseason in Brian Schottenheimer's first go-around as head coach. The missing piece? A Parsons contract extension to let out all of the unnecessary tension. Advertisement "Deadlines make deals," owner Jerry Jones once famously said to us way back when, and we are quickly approaching the biggest deadline in Parsons' contract talks. ... with Micah showing up on Tuesday nothing but a positive sign. Cowboys' Micah Parsons Announces Major Statement
Cowboys' Micah Parsons Announces Major Statement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Micah Parsons being in and out of Dallas Cowboys OTAs wasn't the biggest of deals, with the All-Pro making his way to The Star after the most recent practice. Advertisement But with his contract situation still not resolved, all eyes are on mandatory mini-camp next week and whether or not "The Lion" will be in attendance. "I expect to see him," head coach Brian Schottenheimer said. And now Micah himself has confirmed his attendance via X regardless of whether a deal is done or not. "I will be there! I haven't missed a mini camp in 4 years! Even though the contract is not done, I have teammates and a playbook ! I'm preparing as if I will be on the field the first week of camp! But it's in the owner's hands. I'm ready to win a Super Bowl !" Micah Parsons And Brian SchottenheimerTony Fisher Cue a collective sigh of relief with perhaps Dallas' best player not letting his contract situation interfere with his football. Advertisement Of course, in an ideal world, Dallas and Micah would come to terms sooner rather than later, but with Parsons expected to fetch a contract around $40 million APY, Jerry Jones stated that No. 11 must be the player he wants to be paid like. And that means showing up for work. Which Parsons has done to a degree during OTAs, and now he's confirmed he'll be at The Star next week for the mandatory portion of this early offseason work. Part of a new-look leadership group, Parsons knows the value of being there for his teammates and to learn a new playbook. So with or without a contract, Micah will be present next week.
