Manitoba weather: A chance of severe thunderstorms

The northeast will remain cloudy, with showers possible around Island Lake and Gillam. Forecast highs across the north Monday are in the upper teens to low 20s. An upper ridge of high pressure over the prairies will continue to bring some clearing overnight across Manitoba. That, coupled with light winds and surface moisture after recent rains, should produce fog overnight. Visibility could be reduced into the Tuesday morning commute. The ridge will also usher in another blast of heat across the province on Tuesday, with highs in the upper 20s in the south and low to mid-20s in the north. Many areas will also be sunny or see a mix of sun and cloud.

Incredible lightning strike captured east of Tilbury, Ont.
An incredible picture has been captured of a lightning strike, just east of Tilbury, Ont. The photo was taken on Aug. 12 by Barb Arsenault. A lightning strike can be seen hitting a wind turbine. (Source: Barb Arsenault) 'This area of Essex County is one of the best,' said Moore. 'It's got the most lightning strikes in Canada per year, just the way we are situated. Sometimes lightning does sort of strike twice in the same place, even though we're told it doesn't. In the rough area, you can set your camera up and sort of point in a general direction.' Moore added although we are in a good area, there is some luck involved. But, the more you get outside, the better chances you have of capturing that magic shot.
