Independence Day celebrations

Dharwad: Additional commissioner of school education and literacy (Belagavi division) Ishwar Ullagaddi called upon the students to develop innovative minds and contribute to the nation's progress through creative works.
Inaugurating the exhibition organised as part of the Independence Day celebrations by KE Board's educational institutions in Malamaddi here on Thursday, he said students should make best use of the guidance and facilities provided by the teachers and schools and strive to attain higher goals. The expo focused on Kannada, English, Sanskrit and Hindi. Students from KE Board's High School, KEB English Medium School, KEB Central (CBSE) School, Primary School and PU College displayed models and charts explaining the origin, development, literature of these languages, writers and their books. The expo will be open from 10am to 3pm on Aug 15.

At Shibu's shradh ceremony, family serves 101 dishes
Ramgarh: The community feast, which was hosted at Nemra village to mark the conclusion of the shradh ceremony of former CM Shibu Soren on Saturday, had 101 various dishes, including tribal cuisines, prepared by chefs from Kolkata and other parts of the country. "Dishes included vegetarian, snacks, desert and traditional dishes of Jharkhand and other states of the country. Mutton and chicken were also served to the guests, who arrived from different parts of Jharkhand and all over the country, in accordance with our Santhali traditions," JMM general secretary Fagu Besra said. JMM workers and office-bearers estimated that Saturday's feast was attended by more than 2 lakh people. "The feast is likely to go on till late in the night and the count will increase," a JMM leader said. TOI talked to common people who joined and tasted variety of dishes they never have tasted. Sumati Devi, who arrived with her family on foot from a nearby village, said that she never had seen so many dishes in her life. "The food was delicious. A poor family like us could never afford it," she said. Ishwar Kumar Mahto who arrived from Bokaro said that he had attended several parties, but he tried to taste all dishes which he failed as his stomach did not allow to taste more food.
