EllisDon chosen for first phase of Fancsy Family Hospital project
The first phase will see construction of an administration centre with an auditorium, simulation training centre, classrooms, and office space for support staff, a multi-level parking garage, and essential site infrastructure that will support future phases for the project.
Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) said work will take around three years to complete and will be the first visible step of it. It added that elements were designed to blend with the main hospital build.
The ground is expected to be broken in early 2026 for the first phase.
'This announcement is another exciting and tangible step toward delivering the new state-of-the-art hospital our community has been waiting for,' said Karen Riddell, acting president, CEO, and chief nursing executive at WRH.
'By selecting EllisDon, we are partnering with a team that has a proven track record in delivering complex healthcare infrastructure. This early work will set the stage for the full build and bring us closer to a facility that will meet the needs of our patients, families, and staff for decades to come.'

One-third of renters spend more than 50% of income on rent: survey
A rental sign is seen outside a building in Ottawa, Thursday, April 30, 2020. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Adrian Wyld TORONTO — A survey shows 34 per cent of renters spend more than half of their income on rent, even as the rental market has cooled off recently. report shows those who spend more than half of their income are more likely to experience longer search times, higher frustration, and consider moving cities. Despite the financial hardship, the survey found 66 per cent of those spending big on rent still say they don't want a roommate. For younger renters between the ages of 18 and 24, about half of them spend more than 50 per cent of their income on rent, and that a common budget range for monthly rent among this cohort is $1,000 to $1,499. The report, which surveyed 510 renters across Canada, says only 22 per cent of respondents were spending 30 per cent or less of their income on rent, which is often considered the affordability benchmark. The national average asking rent in July fell 3.6 per cent from a year earlier to $2,121, which marked the 10th straight month of year-over-year declines and the largest so far in 2025. --- This report by The Canadian Press was first published Aug. 14, 2025.

‘Phased wind-down' of Air Canada operations begins at Vancouver International Airport
Air Canada has begun cancelling flights ahead of its possible full stoppage this weekend. Long-haul Air Canada flights departing Vancouver for Sydney, Manila and Singapore have been cancelled in anticipation of potential strike by the airline's flight attendants. If an agreement between the union and the airline is not reached a 'full disruption' of service impacting tens of thousands of travellers per day will begin at 9:58 p.m. Friday, according to an update from YVR. 'Air Canada passengers travelling today or tomorrow may experience flight changes or cancellations. If your flight is impacted or if there are any changes to your itinerary, you will be notified via email or text message,' an update on the airport's website Thursday morning said. In anticipation of the impact of widespread cancellations, the airport is increasing staffing at its terminals but would-be travellers are being urged not to head to the airport without checking the status of their flights. The airline's website outlines options for people booked on flights between Aug. 15 and 18, including refunds and no-cost flight changes. LINK: 'If you opt to keep your current booking and your flight is cancelled due to a labour disruption, Air Canada will attempt to rebook you on another flight, including those operated by other airlines,' the website says. 'However, available capacity on our airline and on other carriers is limited due to the summer travel peak, meaning the possibility of rebooking you within an acceptable timeframe is low.' The Air Canada component of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, which represents around 10,000 flight attendants, has said its main sticking points are wages and unpaid labour when planes aren't in the air. The airline has indicated it will lock out workers if a deal is not reached by the deadline and has requested government-directed arbitration through Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code. A spokesperson for the union said the hope is for negotiations to resume so a deal can be reached, and slammed the company's appeal to the feds. 'I think we need to acknowledge that Air Canada is pleading to the federal government to step in and do as they have in the past,' CUPE 4094 president Henly Larden said. 'They're asking the federal government to do their dirty work.' Federal Jobs Minister Patty Hadju issued a statement Thursday urging the parties to resume negotiations. 'To be clear: deals made at the bargaining table are the best ones,' she wrote. With files from CTV News Vancouver's Kraig Krause and The Canadian Press

Gold Reserve Provides Update on Adjournment of August 18, 2025 Sale Hearing
Gold Reserve Ltd. (TSX.V: GRZ) (BSX: (OTCQX: GDRZF) ('Gold Reserve' or the 'Company') announces that the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware (the 'Court') issued an order today in which it adjourned the start of the Sale Hearing from the currently scheduled August 18, 2025, to an as-yet unspecified future date. The Court also requested further briefing from the parties, and scheduled an in-person hearing on August 18, 2025, on this and related issues. The Court stated its rationale for the adjournment as follows: The Court reaches this conclusion reluctantly, but in the face of the following realities: a Sale Hearing held on August 18 would be directed to evaluating whether to accept the Special Master's recommendation to approve the Dalinar Energy bid, but the Special Master has recently received an unsolicited bid he is currently evaluating and which he may determine is a "Superior Proposal" to Dalinar's (as defined in the Dalinar SPA); if the Special Master determines he has received a Superior Proposal, Dalinar is entitled to time to match it; although all discovery undertaken and briefing received to date is directed to the Dalinar bid, there is some possibility the Special Master may no longer be recommending approval of that bid, which could render a Sale Hearing focused on the Dalinar bid unnecessary. While Gold Reserve may be correct that the unsolicited bid presently being evaluated is "a non-actionable underbid" (O.I. 2050 at 2) (emphasis omitted), the Court is not able to make a determination on this point in time to go forward with a Sale Hearing four days from now, especially since the Special Master has not yet completed his evaluation of the unsolicited bid. The Court stated its 'inclinations as to appropriate next steps' as follows: At this time, the Court's inclinations as to the appropriate next steps are to: (i) order the Special Master to determine, no later than August 25, whether he is adhering to his recommendation of the Dalinar bid or, instead, has received a Superior Proposal; (ii) order the Special Master to submit, no later than August 29, a proposed schedule for additional limited discovery, if any, necessitated by whatever decision he has made by August 25 and any additional, streamlined briefing; (iii) reschedule the Sale Hearing for some or all of the following dates: September 15-18, October 20-23; (iv) require any entity intending to participate in the Sale Hearing to request a specific, total number of hours it will use at the hearing for its examination of witnesses and argument (to include opening statements and closing arguments); and (v) provide a schedule and page limits for expedited post-hearing briefing and submission of proposed findings of fact. The Court summarized its Order, and requested further briefing from the Special Master and parties on the foregoing inclinations, as follows: ORDER: The Sale Hearing is CONTINUED to a date to be determined by separate order, after the Court receives additional input from the Special Master, Sale Process Parties, Additional Judgment Creditors, and any other interested entity. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the Saturday, August 16 deadline for sur-replies in response to pending objections is VACATED. The Court will hold an in-person hearing on Monday, August 18, at 10:00 a.m. at the J. Caleb Boggs Federal Building, Courtroom 2A. The hearing is not an evidentiary hearing and all witnesses who were planning to testify are excused from appearing in Wilmington next week. The Special Master and Sale Process Parties shall, and any Additional Judgment Creditor or other interested entity may, (i) file opening briefs regarding the above inclinations, not to exceed 5 pages, no later than Saturday, August 16, at 12:00 p.m., and (ii) file response briefs, not to exceed 3 pages, no later than Sunday, August 17, at 5:00 p.m. A copy of the Court's Order, the adjournment request, and the Company's opposition to the adjournment request will be posted shortly here. A complete description of the Delaware sale proceedings can be found on the Public Access to Court Electronic Records system in Crystallex International Corporation v. Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, 1:17-mc-00151-LPS (D. Del.) and its related proceedings.
