Cow sheds used as drug transit points in Kelantan, owners at risk
General Operations Force (GOF) Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid confirmed intelligence reports indicate drugs are smuggled alongside livestock using these sheds' logistics.
'Owners risk becoming middlemen, either willingly for profit or through syndicate coercion,' he said. Sheds in Kampung Tualang, Simpangan, Kampung Kubang Pak Itam, Jeram Perdah, and Tok Deh are suspected to be used for smuggling.
Recent raids by Bukit Aman Narcotics CID and Kelantan police seized 35.4kg of amphetamine pills worth RM5 million. In one case, 20kg of drugs were hidden in cow dung at a Pasir Mas shed.
Livestock smuggling has also surged, with 34 cases and 818 animals seized this year. GOF found ropes, dung, and hoofprints near illegal crossings, suggesting cattle are herded to sheds before transport.

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 288 raids were carried out by the General Operations Force (GOF) Central Brigade between Jan 1 and Aug 4, 2025, resulting in the arrest of 1,005 individuals and about RM1.1bil in items seized. "We also urge the public to play a proactive role by sharing information and acting as the 'eyes and ears' of security forces to ensure the country's borders remain secure from illegal intrusions and illicit activities," he added. On a related matter, SAC Hakemal said the Central Brigade has also intensified its strategic operations to combat smuggling-related crimes along Malaysia's western maritime borders, particularly in the coastal areas of Selangor and western Johor. "Our ongoing operations are focused on deterring cross-border criminal activities, especially human trafficking and the smuggling of migrants under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM). "Between Jan 1 and Aug 4, we conducted 10 operations in various parts of Selangor. "It led to the arrest of 15 'tekong darat' (land-based human trafficking coordinators), comprising eight Malaysians and seven Indonesians — as well as the detention of 224 undocumented migrants," he said. Further enforcement actions during two separate raids on June 21 and July 22 also led to significant drug seizures, he added. "We seized 10.35kg of syabu, 3.6kg of ecstasy pills, and several vehicles believed to be linked to trafficking activities," SAC Hakemal said, adding that the GOF will work closely with other enforcement agencies to tighten border security.

Burglar nabbed after returning to crime scene to retrieve belongings
BALIK PULAU: A man who broke into a house in Batu Maung was caught after he returned to the scene to retrieve items he had left behind. The matter came to light in a viral video posted on the Facebook account "Amigos Media Viral" this afternoon. Southwest police chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam said initial investigations revealed that the suspect had entered the home through the back door while the domestic helper was outside disposing of rubbish. "Upon realising the presence of the complainant, the suspect fled the scene. "However, he later returned to the house to collect belongings he had left behind. "The complainant and several friends managed to apprehend the suspect and handed him over to members of a patrol unit on duty in Batu Maung," he said in a statement. Sazalee said the suspect had been detained and would be brought to the Balik Pulau magistrate's court tomorrow for a remand application. "Preliminary urine tests showed the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine and benzodiazepines. "The suspect also has a prior criminal record for a drug-related offence," he added. Police advised the public to ensure that all doors and windows are properly locked and that home security systems are in working condition to prevent similar incidents. The case is being investigated under Section 448 of the Penal Code for house trespass, which carries a maximum jail term of three years, a fine of up to RM5,000, or both.

Sarawak GOF seizes RM3.6 mln in smuggled goods under Op Taring
KUCHING: The Sarawak Brigade of the General Operations Force (GOF) has seized RM3.6 million worth of smuggled goods in a series of successful operations under 'Op Taring' from July 21 to August 1. Sarawak Brigade Commander SAC Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang said the largest bust occurred in Sibu on July 21, where authorities confiscated 783,040 sticks of untaxed cigarettes and 225 litres of liquor worth RM1.4 million. A 43-year-old local man was arrested in connection with the case. On August 1 in Bau, four men were detained for attempting to smuggle 35,000 kg of Bombay onions and 1,400 kg of garlic without valid permits. 'Four lorries were also seized, with the total estimated value at RM1.13 million,' Che Ghazali said in a statement. Other notable seizures included 10,000 kg of imported sugar without permits in Lundu (RM350,000), 15,432 litres of subsidised diesel in Sematan (RM291,553.44), and 380 boxes of frozen food in Lundu (RM222,960). Multiple individuals were arrested in these cases. On July 31, a 67-year-old man was caught in Sri Aman with controlled goods like rice and cooking oil, while another elderly man in Debak was found transporting 580 litres of fuel. Their seizures were valued at RM121,795.70 and RM111,815, respectively. In drug-related cases, ecstasy worth RM34,466.50 was found in an abandoned car near Kuching airport, while a man in Serian was arrested with methamphetamine and a Proton Wira with a fake number plate, totalling RM25,199.20 in seizures. Che Ghazali added that on July 23, a stolen Yamaha FZ105 motorcycle worth RM5,000 was recovered near the Malaysia-Indonesia border in Bau.
