National Hurricane Center
(NHC). The storm, located north of the northern Leeward Islands, is generating sustained winds of 160 mph (260 km/h) and poses significant hazards to the Caribbean region.
As of 2 PM AST (1 PM ET) Saturday, the center of Hurricane Erin was near 19.8°N latitude and 63.3°W longitude, roughly 110 miles north of Anguilla and 205 miles east-northeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Erin is moving west at 16 mph (26 km/h) and is expected to turn west-northwest tonight, followed by a northward shift early next week.
The hurricane has a central pressure of 915 millibars (27.02 inches) and hurricane-force winds extending up to 30 miles (45 km) from its center. Tropical-storm-force winds reach 140 miles (220 km), mostly to the north.

Historical context
This is not the first Hurricane Erin to approach New York. In 2001, a Category 3 Hurricane Erin passed roughly 500 miles southeast of the city during the September 11 attacks.
The 2025 storm is the seventh use of the name since the late 1980s; previous Erins did not cause enough destruction to retire the name.

1 2 Hyderabad: The death toll in rain-related incidents across the state since Aug 12 rose to seven. On Monday, authorities retrieved the body of a 24-year-old man who drowned at the Edu Bavula waterfalls in Gangaram mandal of Mahbubabad district on Aug 17. The deceased was identified as Premkumar, a native of Khammam district. With rains continuing to lash several districts across the state, the IMD on Monday issued a low to moderate flash flood risk for Adilabad, Jagtial, Karimnagar, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Medak, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla, Sangareddy and Vikarabad. Heavy rain batters Mumbai, waterlogging at Hindmata and King's Circle wash away BMC's flood control measures worth crores
Mumbai: Persistent intense rainfall on Monday left large parts of the city waterlogged, including chronic flooding spots like Hindmata and King's Circle where BMC has already spent crores on underground rainwater-holding tanks over the last few years. It was barely four years ago that BMC invested nearly Rs 16 crore at Gandhi Market in King's Circle to build an underground inlet chamber, or sump, at the lowest point to store excess rainwater and later pump it out through a stormwater drain (SWD) line into a nearby nullah. Similarly, at Hindmata, a Rs 140-crore project was implemented to construct underground tanks and enhance the capacity of existing stormwater drains. Yet, despite these measures, both Hindmata and King's Circle had rainwater accumulated for several hours. BMC attributed the flooding to neap tide conditions — when the difference between high tide and subsequent low tide is minimal, preventing the opening of floodgates and causing prolonged waterlogging on heavy rain days. The civic body also said that in view of the continuous downpour, the entire BMC machinery has been deployed on the ground, with officials and staff stationed at various locations to closely monitor the situation. "Engineers, pump operators, health staff, and emergency response teams are carrying out field operations, with special focus on critical services such as storm-water drainage, sewerage management, and pumping stations. Immediate measures are being taken to ensure that drainage works are not obstructed. Citizens have been urged not to believe in rumours and to step out of their homes only if absolutely necessary.
