Photos: New Sound and Light shows launch at the Giza Pyramids on Sunday
The Egyptian Company for Sound and Light and Tourism Development, affiliated with the Holding Company for Tourism and Hotels, a subsidiary of the Ministry of the Public Business Sector, will begin a trial run of virtual reality (VR) shows at Giza Pyramids area, starting on Sunday.
This comes as part of the Ministry of the Public Business Sector's efforts to enhance tourism experience using modern technology, providing innovative cultural and educational content.
This experience is the first of its kind in the Pyramids area, with the shows presented within a building belonging to the Sound and Light Company.
The latest 3D virtual reality technologies have been employed to provide content that accurately simulates the ancient Egyptian environment, reflecting the grandeur of the Pharaonic civilization and making visiting it a truly immersive experience.
Visitors can virtually tour historical archaeological sites through an interactive experience that simulates the past using advanced virtual reality glasses, taking them back in time through ancient history.
Highlights
Highlights of the shows include exploring the tomb of Tutankhamun with all its treasures and artifacts, simulating the process of building the pyramids, delving into the secrets of the sunken monuments of ancient Alexandria, and learning about the rituals and secrets of mummification.
This project is part of the ministry's plan to modernize and develop tourism services and enrich the visitor experience with interactive content that combines entertainment and knowledge, particularly for young people, Egyptians, and foreign visitors.
This will contribute to strengthening Egypt's image as a developed and revitalized tourist destination.
The project is scheduled to later include other archaeological sites, including the temples of Karnak, Edfu, Abu Simbel, and the Qaitbay Citadel, becoming a key component of the company's plan for digital transformation in the cultural tourism sector.

Egyptian Startups Secure $228 Million in First Five Months of 2025 Egyptian startups have attracted $228 million in venture capital and debt financing from January to May 2025, according to a statement from the Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship. The figures mark a 130% year-on-year increase in disclosed investment volume, reflecting continued growth in Egypt's startup ecosystem despite ongoing economic challenges. In total, 16 deals were recorded during the period, with 11 of them publicly disclosing investment amounts that collectively reached $156 million. In addition to equity investments, two notable debt financing deals were secured: proptech platform Nawy raised $23 million, while fintech firm MNT-Halan secured $49 million. The proptech sector led in terms of total investment volume, accounting for 33% of all capital raised, while fintech topped the charts in deal count, with five transactions comprising 32% of total investment value. H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Egypt's Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation and head of the Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship, stated that the funding growth reflects continued momentum in Egypt's startup market. Dr. Al-Mashat attributed this progress to government-led efforts to improve the business climate and support private sector growth through targeted structural reforms. Dr. Al-Mashat confirmed that work is currently underway on a national Startup Charter, alongside a range of funding initiatives and financial incentives to promote investment, including tax benefits for startups with annual revenues under EGP 20 million. In addition to new funding, the local startup ecosystem saw a number of key acquisition deals. These included Dubizzle's acquisition of used car marketplace Hatla2ee, as well as the acquisition of digital payments platform Fatora by MaxAB-Wasoko. The Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship was launched by the Egyptian government to coordinate startup policy across relevant ministries and to develop initiatives that foster an enabling ecosystem for entrepreneurship. Electricity Minister visits Europe's largest pumped-storage hydropower station to discuss renewable integration
As part of Egypt's efforts to modernize its energy infrastructure and expand renewable energy adoption, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat began his visit to France by touring the Grand Maison plant—Europe's largest pumped-storage hydropower station. The Grand Maison facility, located in the French Alps, plays a vital role in grid stability and is a flagship site for several EU-funded projects aimed at testing smart technologies that enhance hydropower's ability to support modern electricity networks. With a capacity of 1,800 megawatts and advanced reversible turbine systems, the plant is capable of quickly ramping up to full output in just three minutes, producing an annual total of 1,420 gigawatt-hours. The minister's visit falls within the framework of Egypt's national energy strategy and the electricity sector's plan to increase the share of renewable energy in the country's energy mix. This transition necessitates integrating advanced storage solutions—such as pumped-storage hydropower—to ensure the stability and sustainability of the national grid. Under Egypt's national energy strategy, renewable energy is expected to account for over 42% of total generation by 2030 and 60% by 2040. The plan includes large-scale integration of energy storage technologies and the development of pumped-storage facilities to ensure reliability and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The minister concluded by highlighting Egypt's dedication to maximizing the use of its natural resources, reducing carbon emissions, and transitioning to a low-carbon energy future through innovation, international cooperation, and robust private sector engagement.
