Atherton police offer $10K reward in same-day home burglaries
(KRON) — The Atherton Police Department is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction for two back-to-back home burglaries in early January that occurred within hours of one another.

Police said the burglaries took place on Jan. 11 on Stevick Drive and followed a similar approach. In the first incident reported, police said suspects broke a rear glass door to enter the home between 7:38 p.m. and 7:42 p.m. It was not disclosed whether anything was stolen from the residence.
In the other incident, reported between 5:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m., suspects also shattered a rear glass door to get into the home. Police said thieves made off with $20,000 in jewelry and gold and silver coins.
APD said it is taking part in a new Burglary Reward Program — sponsored by San Mateo County officials and the San Mateo District County Attorney's Office — to help advance the investigation.
'We believe this initiative will not only encourage community involvement but also send a strong message that criminal activity will not be tolerated,' said Atherton Chief of Police Steven D. McCulley in a news release. 'Your eyes and ears are a critical extension of our department, and together, we can make a meaningful impact.'

(KRON) — An Oakland coffee house that refused to serve a customer wearing a hat emblazoned with a Star of David last year is being sued by the United States Department of Justice. On Monday, the DOJ announced it had filed a lawsuit against Fathi Abdulrahim Harara and Native Grounds LLC, the owners of the Jerusalem Coffee House on Telegraph Avenue. The lawsuit, according to the DOJ, alleges the coffee house discriminated against Jewish customers, a violation of Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 'which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, or national origin in places of public accommodation.' 'It is illegal, intolerable, and reprehensible for any American business open to the public to refuse to serve Jewish customers,' said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the DOJ's Civil Rights Division. 'Through our vigorous enforcement of Title II of the Civil Rights Act and other laws prohibiting race and religious discrimination, the Justice Department is committed to combatting anti-Semitism and discrimination and protecting the civil rights of all Americans.' During one incident, the suit alleges, a Jerusalem Coffee Huse employee told a customer, 'You're the guy with the hat. You're the Jew. You're the Zionist. We don't want you in our coffee shop. Get out.' In another incident cited by the lawsuit, a customer wearing a Star of David hat who was with his 5-year-old son was told to leave repeatedly by Harara, who accused him of supporting 'genocide' and accused of 'trespassing.' That particular incident, which was partially caught on video, was condemned by local leaders including Rep. Ro Khanna and recently elected Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee. The lawsuit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, further alleges that on the one-year anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas terror attacks, the coffee house unveiled two new drinks: 'Iced In Tea Fada,' and 'Sweet Sinwar,' a reference to former Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. APD says man gave the wrong name, but he was the right suspect wanted for burglary
Atlanta police said a man gave them a fake name, however, he was the right suspect in connection with a burglary case. Officers executed what they called a 'knock and talk' at the suspect's last known address. Residents at the home told police the suspect wasn't there. Suspect charged in his brother's homicide: Austin Police
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Police said its officers arrested a man after a June 6 shooting at a north Austin residence, according to a press release. APD also identified the victim as Warren Stewart, 36, in the release. Tevin Stewart, 31, is charged with first-degree murder. He and Warren were brothers and both lived at the Halifax Drive residence, APD said. KXAN reached out to Tevin's attorney for his response to the charge. The release notes that Austin-Travis County EMS medics arrived at the scene around 10:28 p.m. on June 6. ATCEMS called APD after realizing that a shooting had occurred.
