Boating suspended in Thekkadi till May 27; Monitoring Officer reviews preparedness in Theni district
Following the southwest monsoon setting in a week in advance, heavy rainfall in many parts of neighbouring Kerala has led to the suspension of boat rides in Thekkadi (Kerala) till Tuesday (May 27, 2025) after Red Alert was issued, officials said on Sunday.
While the Indian Meteorological Department has given an orange alert for Theni and Dindigul districts, the officials here, led by Monitoring Officer M. Govinda Rao, Collector Ranjith Singh, and others took stock, of the preparedness at the District Collectorate. The special control room will monitor the rainfall level, to check on dam storage level, and to keep watch for floods at low-lying areas.
The Disaster Management Department officials said they expected rainfall between Sunday (May 25) and Monday (May 26) along the Western Ghats. A warning has already been issued to people in areas along the river, with first responders put on alert.
Officials in the Department of Highways and the police said the ghat section in the district was being closely monitored, especially the Cumbum Mettu, which connects Theni, Munnar, and other destinations. So far, there have been no problems.
On Saturday, there was widespread rain in parts of the district, including Thekkadi and Mullaperiyar dam. Besides mild showers in some parts, there was largely no rain till 6 p.m. on Sunday, officials said.

Patna: The state's capital on Friday received light rainfall. However, as per the forecast of Indian Meteorological Department, Patna, the city including the other districts of southern Bihar is likely to remain dry for the next three days. On the other hand, most of the districts of northern Bihar are likely to receive pre monsoon showers on Saturday and Sunday. The maximum temperature of the state was recorded at 38.5 degrees celsius in Buxar, whereas the minimum in Vaishali was recorded at 19.6 degree celsius. No major change in the maximum or minimum temperature is expected in the next 24 hours. The maximum temperature is expected to remain in the range of 36-38 degrees celsius for the next two days in the capital, along with most of the southern and north western districts, while the minimum temperature will range from 26 - 28 degrees celsius on Saturday and 28-30 degrees celsius thereafter. Thunderstorm alert in 7 districts
1 2 Patna: The maximum temperature of the capital city witnessed a drop of 2.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, with the district recording less than 1mm of rainfall. The city recorded the maximum temperature of 33.5 degrees Celsius on the day. On Wednesday, Valmiki Nagar recorded 13.2mm of rainfall, Gaya 2.6mm rain, Rajgir 8mm, Munger 1.5mm, and Bhagalpur, Supaul, Dehri and Araria less than 1mm, besides Patna. With pre-monsoon showers continuing to impact several districts of the state, Indian Meteorological Department, Patna, has issued an alert of thunderstorm and lightning in seven districts — Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar, Madhepura and Saharsa. IMD forecasts thunderstorms in South Bengal, severe storms in eastern Uttar Pradesh
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall in south Bengal districts and heavy rain in the sub-Himalayan districts till Friday morning. Severe thunderstorms accompanied by hail are expected to continue over eastern Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Hardoi, Raebareli, Unnao, and Ayodhya, for the next two to three hours, the IMD said. Sharp showers lashed the metropolis and nearby Salt Lake on Tuesday night, causing a steep fall in minimum temperatures, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Heavy rain is expected to continue until Thursday morning in the sub-Himalayan districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, and Alipurduar, the IMD added. Salt Lake recorded the highest rainfall in south Bengal at 81.3 mm in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Wednesday, the department said. Kolkata's Alipore station received 38 mm of rain, while Dum Dum logged 57 mm during the same period.
