Panaji: Kennedy D'Silva was honoured with the International Grandeur Award 2025 for executive leadership in sports development in New Delhi, recently.
D'Silva, director of the Karuna Football Foundation, won the award for his pioneering work in the Afro Asia Compassion Football initiative, a program that uses football as a tool for change across East Africa and several Asian countries.
Organized by Kiteskraft Productions, the International Grandeur Awards acknowledge individuals who have made outstanding contributions in their respective fields.
D'Silva was recognised for empowering leaders working in marginalised and underprivileged communities through sports-based training, particularly football, to promote holistic development, education and social inclusion.
'The award is a tribute to the many unsung heroes in communities around the world,' said D'Silva.
'I am humbled and encouraged to continue this mission. The award reflects a growing global acknowledgment of leaders who use sports not just as a game, but as a platform for leadership, justice and community empowerment.'
D'Silva is known in Goa for his role with Compassion SC, a club that focuses on grassroots football, particularly girls, participating in various Goa Football Association-organised tournaments in age group categories. The club won the girls under-13 and under-15 categories, and finished runners-up in the under-17 category last season.

FC Goa To Face Oman's Al Seeb In Knockout Clash For ACL 2 Group Stage Spot

Last Updated: This will be the Gaurs' first appearance in continental football since 2021, when they became the first Indian club to play in the AFC Champions League group stage. Indian Super League side FC Goa return to Asian competition on Wednesday when they face Oman's Al Seeb Club in the preliminary stage of the AFC Champions League 2 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao. This will be the Gaurs' first appearance in continental football since 2021, when they became the first Indian club to play in the AFC Champions League group stage. They qualified for this year's preliminary stage of the tournament by winning the Super Cup last season. However, they will have their task cut out against Al Seeb, one of Oman's top sides. Al Seeb have won the Oman Professional League in the last two seasons and made history in 2022 by winning the AFC Cup (now AFC Champions League Two) to become the only Omani club to do so. The match is a knockout fixture with the winner advancing to the group stage, and for the Gaurs, it's an opportunity to extend their continental journey in front of home fans. In their last Asian campaign, FC Goa earned three draws in a tough group featuring sides like Al Rayyan, Al Wahda, and Persepolis FC. The latter reached the quarter-finals before losing to eventual champions Al Hilal FC. (With inputs from PTI) view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. India fields strong quartet of Unnati Hooda, Tanvi Sharma, Rakshitha Ramraj & Vennala Kalagotla for World juniors

A whole 17 years after Saina Nehwal won India's first world junior championship at Pune, a stunningly strong bunch of women's singles shuttlers comprising Unnati Hooda, Tanvi Sharma, Rakshitha Sree Santosh Ramraj and Vennala Kalagotla will contend for the crown at the Guwahati World Juniors from October 13-20. While India had to settle for a couple of bronzes at the recent Asian Juniors, the country is fielding one of the most promising bunch of teenagers to take aim at the U19 crown. All of Unnati, Tanvi amd Rakshitha have played intermittently on the senior circuit and returned some promising results with Top 30 scalps. The tall, rangy Vennala Kalagotla, daughter of a ball badminton player, is a new addition but impressed at the Asian meet where she landed a surprise bronze. Unnati made quarters at China Open, while Rakshitha had a good swing in Europe earlier in the year. Tanvi, who trains at Guwahati, made finals at US Open. Chinese Yin Yiqing and Liu Siya will be the main challenges, while Tomoka Miyazaki, a World No 7, is still eligible to turn out. Thai Sarunak Vitidsarn, sister of Kunlavut, won last year, but this edition at the National Centre of Excellence will be lit up by the presence of the strongest Indian contingent after Unnati topped trials on Tuesday. In men's singles, Rounak Chouhan, Suryakash Rawat, Ganana Dattu and the super talented Mizo, Hmar Lalthazuala, will contend for the title. The boys doubles, comprises Bhavya Chhabra/Sumith A.R, Bhargav Ram Arigela/Biswa Tej Gobbauru and Vishnu Kedhar Kode/Mithilesh P.K, while Girls doubles will see Vennala Kalagotla, a bit of an all rounder combine with Reshika U. Others include Rawat sisters Gayatri and Mansa, and skilled duo Tanoo Chandra/Taarini Suri. Mixed doubles will see Bhavya Chhabra/Vishakha Toppo, Lalramsanga/Taarini Suri, Vishnu Kedhar/Keerthy Manchala and Vansh Dev/Dianka Waldia, a batch of Juniors that has received dedicated attention at the National Academy Specialist Centre.
