Shetland performer comes to the Fringe with new show
Shetland Choreographer and Performer Kathryn Gordon has Assembly@DanceBase all a birl this Edinburgh Festival Fringe as she introduces her sublime new work A JOURNEY OF FLIGHT.
This is an immersive fifty-minute dance performance created in Shetland and inspired by the migration of birds. The work includes Gordon's signature element of engaging environmental awareness, inviting audiences to reflect on the delicate balance between nature, movement and our emotional ties to place.
Featuring mesmerising choreography and live music from Jenny Sturgeon alongside projected visuals, A JOURNEY OF FLIGHT creates a thought-provoking journey of arrivals, departures, the nostalgia of place and the notion of flight itself.
Set against a backdrop of flowing white sheets, dancers Kathryn Gordon and Jorja Follina move through ever changing spaces, exploring new states of being and new homes.
This visual piece is set to be one of the most striking and thought provoking physical theatre performances of the Fringe.
Kathryn Gordon said:'We can't wait to bring the show to the Fringe, within our nationwide tour. It's such an honour to be part of the Made in Scotland showcase, alongside such great artists and performances. We are hoping to build connections at the Fringe to allow us to keep this work on its journey, exploring connections that can be made as it travels, by flight and by sea.'
This show is supported by The Made in Scotland Showcase, Creative Scotland and Shetland Arts.

Glasgow festival first as 'world's most famous detective' makes debut
Now, 25 years on, he is bringing them back to the popular outdoor Shakespeare festival, which kicks off later this month in the Botanic Gardens in the West End. 'A Midsummer Night's Dream and Romeo and Juliet sparked a life-long love of Shakespeare,' he explains. Gordon Barr (Image: Bard in the Botanics) 'His plays have such incredible depth that no matter how often you return to them there is always more to discover.' Gordon adds: 'It is a great pleasure to revisit these two plays for the 2025 season, with more than two decades of experience under my belt.' Bard in the Botanics has announced its Magic, Mayhem and Murder season will open on June 27 and run until August 2. In A Midsummer Night's Dream, Bard company stalwart Alan Steele plays Bottom with festival regulars James Boal and Claire Macallister as Oberon and Titania. (Image: Bard in the Botanics) Gordon says the production 'draws on Celtic and British folklore to create a magical version of the evergreen comedy.' The second half of the season, which starts on July 18, includes a new production of Gordon's five-hander Romeo and Juliet, which was last staged in 2012. Sam Stopford takes on the role of Romeo with Lola Aluko as Juliet. Romeo and Juliet (Image: Bard in the Botanics) In the Kibble Palace glasshouse, Jennifer Dick will direct a new production of her adaptation of Marlowe's Dr Faustus with Adam Donaldson as Faustus and Sam Stopford as Mephistopheles, and in the second half of the season, she will present Sherlock Holmes: A Scandal in Bohemia. Dr Faustus (Image: Bard in the Botanics) Bard in the Botanics is not just about Shakespeare, points out Gordon. 'Whilst Shakespeare remains at the heart of Bard in the Botanics, as we continue to explore more of the canon of classic drama and literature, it's exciting to bring the work of another Scottish author to our stages – Sir Arthur Conan Doyle,' he says. Sherlock Holmes: A Scandal in Bohemia (Image: Bard in the Botanics) 'His Sherlock Holmes stories have delighted generations of readers and I can't wait for our associate director, Jennifer Dick, to bring three of those stories to life in the Kibble Palace in a brand new play featuring the world's foremost consulting detective. 'This season is full of great stories – some of the best and most enduring stories ever told. From the iconic lovers of Romeo and Juliet to Faustus' pact with the devil to the thrilling adventures of Sherlock Holmes, there's really something for everyone.' Ruby Rose praises goats for saving her life - after a string of bizarre claims about her living conditions
Ruby Rose has praised the baby goats - and one lamb - at a horse sanctuary for saving her life when she found it too difficult 'to go on'. The Aussie actor, 39, has been staying at Horse Shepherd Equine Sanctuary in Victoria, after claiming she had to move because she was being 'followed'. She has shared several clips of her visit to Instagram, with one video on Tuesday revealing how some of the animals have helped her through some difficult times. Rose uploaded a video which showed her lying in bed while two lambs attempted to hop into bed with her. As the Batwoman star encouraged them to jump up, Rose captioned the clip with some bittersweet words. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'Forever indebted to Snoop, Martha and Bart,' she began - Snoop and Martha are baby goats, while Bar14800109t is a lamb. Rose also sang her praises to 'the incredible Anne' Young, who is a member on the board of Horse Shepherd Equine Sanctuary. 'Whenever my heart feels too broken to go on, I am stitched together by @horse_shepherd,' she added. Rose re-emerged at the horse sanctuary in Gordon this week after telling fans she has had to 'move house every few weeks' because she is being 'followed'. The Australian actor, 39, shared videos to Instagram on Monday, showing herself playing with goats at Horse Shepherd Equine Sanctuary. Daily Mail Australia can reveal the movie star stays at the ranch for a few days at a time to visit the animals when she is in the area. Rose tagged the sanctuary in her videos and even urged her 20.1 million followers to donate to the business, which is committed to 'equine rescue and rehabilitation'. In the clips, Rose featured two baby goats named Martha and Snoop, who she has previously revealed lost their mother. The Aussie star appeared to be quite taken with the animals as she fed them, walked with them around the sanctuary, and cuddled up to them in her videos. It comes after Rose shared a series of troubling posts to Threads last week, claiming someone is following her and trying to kill her. One of the posts raised concerns among fans when she made an eyebrow-raising remark about one of Jeffrey Epstein's accusers Virginia Giuffre. Giuffre recently took her own life after claiming they had been in a devastating car accident that was later revealed to be a minor prang. Rose's wild posts first came in response to a thread post that asked: 'Who is a celebrity that gave it all up at the height of fame to go live a "normal" life?' 'Hi. We just leave when people try to kill us. When we are illegally debanked and [redacted]. Hope that helps,' Rose answered. 'Debanking' refers to a bank terminating a customer's accounts or restricting access to banking services due to perceived risks. This may happen for a number of reasons, including a perceived risk of money laundering, non-compliant customer activities, or a perceived reputational risk. Daily Mail Australia is not suggesting Rose was debanked for any of these reasons. It is unclear if Rose was actually debanked or if she was referring to someone else's plight. Rose then went on to say: 'I don't want to be labelled "crazy" and I don't want to pretend to know how Virginia Giuffre died - but DOZENS of people including a school bus, have tried to run me off the road in the last few years.' Giuffre was one of the most outspoken accusers of convicted sex offenders Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. She died by suicide at age 41 at her farm outside Perth, Australia, on Thursday, April 24. Rose claimed: 'I have been followed almost every time I leave my home, since the day I broke my neck, back and ribs on Batwoman' - referring to her controversial exit from the TV series after she sustained injuries on-set. 'Since then I have doubled down on.... Epstein. This has resulted in some seriously wild attempts on my life. Believe it or don't. But I might as well update you.' Rose, who uses they/them pronouns also wrote, 'This,' beneath someone else's comment on the thread which read: 'Y'all they "left" bc it's a horrifying industry that is NOT safe.' Fans flocked to comments beneath Rose's Threads post, begging the star to 'stay safe and keep speaking out'. Rose responded to one concerned fan to let them know she'd had no suicidal thoughts of any kind 'thank you for asking'. 'In fact I am moving house every few weeks, countries every few months and trying desperately to stay alive until my book is finished and released,' Rose, who is currently writing a tell-all memoir, responded. 'If you're truly being followed and targeted, staying put is dangerous. You need to move ideally to another country, where you can be safe and off the radar,' another person told Rose. 'Trust no one unless you're absolutely sure of them. Change your routine completely. This isn't about fear, it's about survival. Your safety comes first act now!' Rose, who has recently been splitting her time between the US and Australia following the death of her father just before Christmas, responded: 'Already done.'
