M&S Christmas advert revealed as White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood films in winter wonderland

MARKS & Spencer has given a first glimpse at its magical new Christmas advert featuring White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood. The British actress, 31, was pictured on a 'snow'-covered festive set with trees, wreaths and ribbons setting a quintessential Christmassy scene. 5 Aimee looked stylish in a sleeveless cream top and smart, baggy black trousers. She wore her hair down and carried a faux fur leopard print coat in her arms. The popular star was joined by fellow cast members all kitted out in M&S winterwear. A source opened up to the Mail about Aimee's casting in the project, saying: "She was one of the most talked about women in the world at the end of 2024 so became a target for Marks & Spencer. "She's just so utterly charming and so very relatable, she's a superstar but she's down to earth with it. Marks have definitely set the bar for this year's Christmas ad battle, the others will be seething when they see that they have her. "It hasn't come cheap but the view at Marks & Spencer is that it is well worth it. They wouldn't be able to buy that kind of publicity." Hannah Waddingham, Sophie Ellis Bextor and Zawe Ashton have all starred in past M&S Christmas campaigns. Meanwhile, celebrity brand partners like Spencer Matthews and Mark Wright have helped reinvigorate the brand and boost its fashion profits. The battle of the Christmas adverts is now big business with brands going all out to outdo each other and win the festive crown. John Lewis famously led the way with superstar director Michael Gracey overseeing their 2007 effort with a £6 million budget. Aimee first found fame in Netflix's Sex Education before boosting her profile in global hit, The White Lotus, alongside Walton Goggins. The pair played love interests Chelsea and Rick, but there were rumblings of tensions when the cameras weren't rolling. Goggins denied that was the case, saying: "I adore, I love this woman madly." Aimee is dating Happy Valley star Adam Long after they met filming upcoming BBC comedy series Film Club. Stockport-born Aimee previously dated Connor Swindells, 28 — her co-star on Netflix comedy series Sex Education — but they split in 2020. 5 5

ITV Lorraine's Ross King in tears as he's confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing

Ross King has been confirmed as the 13th celebrity taking part in this year's Strictly Come Dancing, with the likes of Vicky Pattison, George Clarke and Tom Skinner also taking part Scots showbiz legend Ross King was in tears as he was unveiled as the 13th celebrity contestant joining this year's Strictly Come Dancing lineup. ‌ Viewers of the BBC programme will witness Ross, alongside the other famous faces who have already begun training, grace the ballroom floor later this month. ‌ The ITV Lorraine Hollywood correspondent is set to join the ranks of Vicky Pattison, George Clarke, Tom Skinner and Alex Kingston, who were all confirmed during the course of this week. ‌ On Friday's edition of Lorraine, presenter Ranvir Singh had the honour of revealing Ross's participation as they discussed his feelings before his Strictly premiere. The ITV crew erupted in applause as Ross emerged from the dressing room onto the studio set before becoming visibly moved, reports Wales Online. Taking his seat, he remarked: "I'm really emotional, that was so lovely. I can just go back to LA now, that's it, that was the best moment, thank you." Noticing the tears welling in his eyes, Ranvir moved beside him on the sofa to offer support. Ross revealed he had returned to the UK the previous day, and the reality of his BBC programme participation had finally hit home. ‌ When questioned about his motivation for accepting a spot in this year's cast, Ross responded: "There were a couple of reasons, one of which was my dear old mum used to always say, 'You'll never know, until you give it a go'. That was her expression, just do your best, that's all you can do." He explained that seeing some of his friends excel on the American version of the BBC show made him feel inadequate and hesitant about participating due to their impressive performances. ‌ Ross continued: "I certainly don't think I'm good enough to do it now! But, I just thought, you get to a point in your life, and I'm so lucky as well with Lorraine and our lovely boss here, Victoria. "I've been so supported, and it means I can actually do it. Obviously, I'm not leaving the show, I'm coming in." Ross was then treated to some video messages from the team at ITV, including one from Lorraine, who is currently enjoying her summer break. ‌ When questioned about what he's most excited for, the showbiz star added: "Obviously, I'm never going to win! But if I'm the most improved, that's the bar. I've been lucky that I've done musicals, but I don't dance!". Ross will be joining other celebrities such as Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, Dani Dyer, Alex Kingston, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, George Clarke and La Voix. ‌ Also participating this year are EastEnders star Balvinder Sopal, Chris Robshaw, Ellie Goldstein, Thomas Skinner, Vicky Pattison and Stefan Dennis. Scotland Unsung is an antithesis to tartan tat, premiered at the heart of the Royal Mile during the height of tourist season. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad What will we learn from your show that we didn't know before? I hope the audience will come out of this performance with a sense of the depth of Scots songs and stories, and how they can inhabit our lives. I hope that some might be surprised at the emotional places it has explored, sometimes without our realising. Kirsty Law: Scotland Unsung Who or what was the biggest inspiration for your show? In writing this show, my biggest influence has been Virginia Woolf and her 'fictional biography', Orlando. It's been an important book for me for a long time. In it, she tells the story of a fictional character, Orlando, shifting through time, space and gender - in order to paint an appropriately colourful portrait of her long-term lover, Vita Sackville-West. I wanted to tell a story of the Scots tradition that exists throughout many people's lives and so I have, taking lead from Woolf, created my own character, Scotia, who travels from one song to the next in shifting form. What's the best review you've ever had, and the worst? I like this question - because it was the same review! It was for an album I made. The review started by comparing my singing to Ani Di Franco and the album's production and arrangements to early Massive Attack - however after a few more traditional melancholic folk songs, the reviewer decided that it wasn't entertaining and that 'enough was enough'!! It still makes me laugh - my music is proudly melancholic at times, as is the whole tradition. This is actually something that this show encapsulates - how important the shadowside of our songs and stories is, we need it. Who or what are you most excited about seeing this year? Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad My venue, the Scottish Storytelling Centre, has an incredible Fringe programme this year of local and visiting artists. I am excited to catch Dougie Mackay and Jemima Thewes' A Wolf Shall Devour The Sun, which looks beautiful and involves shadow puppets. There is an Irish storyteller, Clare Murphy, who has a show on called The Spanking Goddess and Other Discarded Tales, and I would love to see that. It has a not disimilar line of enquiry to my own, stories that are perhaps lesser known, a different way of looking at a tradition. I would also love to see any of the trilogy of shows that the incredible Mairi Campbell is performing, her work is always so moving. Who do you most like spending time with in Edinburgh? I am an Edinburgh resident and I love how the city comes alive for the Fringe. The amount of creative energy here, the risks being taken. So at this time of year I love to meet visiting performers. Tell us something about you that would surprise people. When I was 14 I was much more interested in being Kurt Cobain than a folksinger. Some days I still am! I actually find that old-fashioned folksinging, grunge, punk - even free improvisation - can feel similar to song. They all require a rawness and authenticity in their performance and don't hold up beauty as the number one goal. What are the best and worst things that have happened to you at a festival? Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad One year at the Fringe, Brian Eno came to my gig and had some lovely things to say about it. That was pretty amazing, and a full circle moment from my mum going to see him in Roxy Music at the Caley Picturehouse when she was 15! The worst thing that has happened? Things are rarely terrible and you can put up with just about anything if you manage to make a good connection with your audience - so the worst is probably when the stage has been badly placed and the audience can't hear because of a noisy bar or a loud neighbouring music tent. What's the first thing you do in the morning and the last thing you do at night? I would love to be able to tell you some amazing mindful morning or evening habits that are the secret to a creative and happy life - but I am not a creature of routine whatsoever! It is completely different every day and every night. When I'm home, in the morning the routine is 'try and get to the studio when I said I would' and in the evening it's 'try and go to bed when I said I would'. Thanks for the interview! We'd like to buy you a drink. Where are we going and what are we drinking? Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad It's definitely the Waverley Bar after a show and a pint of anything by Williams Brothers, ideally over more songs.
