Egypt celebrates Eid al-Adha amid tightened security measures
CAIRO - 6 June 2025: Egyptians are celebrating the joyous first day of Eid al-Adha on Friday, with scenes of happiness spreading across the country.
To ensure that festivities unfold in a safe and peaceful atmosphere, the government has implemented extensive security measures nationwide.
The Ministry of Interior has launched a comprehensive security plan aimed at safeguarding public safety and ensuring that citizens can enjoy the holiday without disruptions.
Special focus has been placed on areas that traditionally attract large crowds during Eid, such as public parks, cinemas, and shopping centers.
From the early hours of the morning, a significant security presence has been deployed across main streets and public squares. Police officers have been stationed in large numbers to maintain order, ease traffic flow, and prevent any disturbances to the public peace.
In anticipation of increased footfall along the Nile banks and riverboats, the Water Police have stepped up patrols and inspections to enforce safety protocols. These measures are intended to prevent overcrowding and ensure compliance with boat capacity limits, thereby protecting citizens and averting potential accidents.
Similarly, the Tourism Police have intensified their presence at archaeological and historical sites popular with both locals and tourists. Their role includes managing crowd flow, securing the sites, and offering emergency support if needed.
The Transportation Police have raised their alert level to the maximum, particularly in train stations, metro lines, and public transportation hubs, to manage the increased movement of travelers and maintain safety standards.
On the economic front, the Supply Police have launched widespread market inspections to monitor prices and combat monopolistic practices or unjustified price hikes, especially given the surge in demand during the holiday. These campaigns are conducted in coordination with relevant regulatory bodies to maintain stability in the market and safeguard citizens' access to essential goods.
Supporting these efforts is the 'We Are All One' initiative, a collaboration between the Ministry of Interior and several retail chains and suppliers, which continues to provide discounted food items through outlets spread across all governorates. This initiative has played a key role in easing financial burdens on citizens and spreading a sense of communal satisfaction.
The Ministry of Interior's nationwide security plan encompasses all sectors, aiming to uphold public order, prevent crime, and ensure the full protection of citizens throughout the Eid festivities. The plan includes the deployment of rapid response units, mobile patrols, and reinforced checkpoints at strategic and high-traffic locations.
Female police officers have also been deployed in densely populated areas to enhance security and provide assistance to women and children when necessary.
Traffic police have intensified monitoring on highways and major roads, deploying rapid-response units to address breakdowns and assist travelers, ensuring smooth transportation throughout the holiday period.
Security officials across various governorates are personally overseeing the implementation of these measures through on-site inspections. Officers have been instructed to remain vigilant, fully prepared, and committed to courteous and supportive engagement with the public, reinforcing the image of a police force in service to the people.
Special attention is also being given to securing Eid prayer sites, bustling marketplaces, and recreational areas expected to draw large crowds.
All divisions of the Ministry of Interior are operating at full capacity to safeguard Eid al-Adha celebrations, emphasizing their ongoing commitment to providing a secure, stable, and reassuring environment for all Egyptians during these blessed days.

Greca Developments eyes Egyptian investors as gateway to Greek real estate, EU residency
Investing in real estate abroad has emerged as a compelling strategy for individuals seeking financial growth, asset diversification, and greater lifestyle flexibility. Whether driven by the promise of stable returns, the appeal of dual residency, or the desire to hedge against local market volatility, a growing number of investors are looking beyond their national borders. From the charming streets of European capitals to emerging hotspots in Southeast Asia, international property markets present a wide array of opportunities for savvy buyers seeking long-term value and global mobility. Ahmed Abbassi, Founder and CEO of Greca Developments—a company specializing in transforming older buildings in central Athens into residential units for sale or lease—announced that the company is preparing to launch 150 new units. This expansion is part of Greca's current portfolio, which includes 15 buildings comprising a total of 300 units, with a combined investment value exceeding €50m. Abbassi added that Greca has laid out expansion plans for the coming years, with a further €30m in investments earmarked to support growth. The company also owns five land plots across Greece, totaling 4,000 square meters, which are slated for development as part of its broader strategy to expand its footprint in the Greek real estate market. Abbassi emphasized that the company's presence in Egypt is not intended to compete with local developers. Instead, Greca is targeting a specific segment of clients interested in external investments that offer stable returns along with the added benefits of European travel and residency. He clarified that Greca's operations in Egypt will be limited to marketing its overseas real estate projects, with no plans to engage in local development. The company aims to attract Egyptian investors seeking opportunities abroad, particularly those looking to diversify their portfolios and secure access to European residency. Abbassi noted that around 80% of Greca's current client base consists of Egyptians, with the remaining 20% made up primarily of Turkish investors. In light of this growing demand, the company plans to open an office in Egypt during the last quarter of next year, aiming to facilitate the marketing of its projects and allow for in-person client meetings, replacing the current reliance on virtual communication. Additionally, Greca plans to participate in the Cityscape exhibition in September 2025 as part of its strategy to increase visibility and promote its projects to the Egyptian market. Abbassi highlighted that owning property in Greece not only generates attractive annual returns—reaching up to 6.5% in some cases—but also allows investors to obtain Greek residency, which is renewable every five years as long as the property remains under ownership. This residency permits visa-free travel across 46 Schengen countries, offering significant lifestyle and mobility advantages. He further explained that Greca manages investment properties on behalf of clients, handling rental operations, maintenance, and the direct transfer of rental income to investors. The company follows a business model that focuses on converting commercial and office buildings into residential units that qualify for European residency, enabling clients to secure residency by purchasing property starting from just €250,000. This stands in contrast to the significantly higher investment thresholds for new-build properties, which can reach up to €800,000. Abbassi pointed out that these regulatory changes were introduced by the Greek government to prevent pressure on new residential projects and to avoid inflating property prices, making converted properties a more accessible and sustainable option for residency seekers. He concluded by stating that the company plans to expand its operations in Egypt shortly, to attract more clients to purchase residential units owned by Greca and obtain permanent residency. The company is particularly targeting investors who are seeking new and stable opportunities within the European Union, using Greece as their entry point.

Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy stated that the Turkish minister conveyed the greetings of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to President El-Sisi, who appreciated the gesture and stressed the importance of continuing efforts to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries. Sisi highlighted the qualitative progress in Egypt-Turkey relations, particularly following the signing of the Joint Declaration in February 2024 to reactivate the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meetings and elevate them to the level of the two heads of state. Moreover, the meeting witnessed mutual affirmation on the need to strengthen economic cooperation between Egypt and Turkey, with the goal of achieving a trade volume of $15 billion, in line with the agreement reached during President El-Sisi's visit to Ankara in September 2024. The two sides also underscored the importance of expanding Turkish companies' participation in investment projects in Egypt. The meeting also addressed developments in several regional issues, foremost among them the situation in the Gaza Strip. El-Sisi stresses Arab unity, warns against external interference - Foreign Affairs
President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi underscored on Wednesday the strength of Egypt's relations with Arab states and the necessity of overcoming disagreements to preserve Arab unity, affirming that any external interference aims to destabilise Arab states. El-Sisi's remarks came during an inspection visit to the Egyptian Military Academy at the State's Strategic Command Headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. According to the Egyptian presidency, El-Sisi emphasised that Arab security is an integrated whole to which Egypt is closely linked, noting that the Arab region has been experiencing exceptional circumstances since 2011, not just since October 2023. He added that ensuing events have proven the soundness of Egyptian policies based on balance, non-interference, respect for state sovereignty, and developmental efforts, El-Sisi said, warning against attempts by media outlets to sow discord among Arab peoples amid regional threats. Regarding the situation in Gaza, the president noted that Egypt has made immense efforts since 2007 to avoid escalation and stressed that the Palestinian people in the Strip would pay the price in any confrontation. El-Sisi affirmed that the current destruction in Gaza is unprecedented and that the Egyptian state continues efforts to stop the war and deliver humanitarian aid. He also highlighted Egypt's efforts to secure the release of captives and detainees, despite the distortion and misinformation campaigns that target the state's pivotal role. Furthermore, the president pointed out that the geopolitical circumstances, including the war in Gaza, have negatively impacted Suez Canal revenues, which declined by $7 billion. However, he added, the path of economic reform is ongoing and witnessing significant progress, as affirmed by international organisations. El-Sisi emphasised that when state institutions operate efficiently, with knowledge and expertise, economic achievements will be realised and development goals will be met. He also highlighted the importance of scientific progress and technological advances, including social media platforms, which he described as not inherently bad but whose impact depends on how these advances are employed. In contrast, El-Sisi indicated that if used correctly, social media platforms can be a helpful tool. Still, he maintained that as things stand, social media has been used to sow discord, spread rumours, and undermine morale among Egyptians, who he described as facing challenges with increasing awareness. Domestically, Egypt, the president continued, is stable thanks to the state's policy of transparency and credibility, which has proven effective over the past decade. Moreover, El-Sisi noted that though Egypt has faced significant security challenges for over a decade, the state has successfully overcome them and continues to make tangible progress despite the difficult regional situation. During the visit, he expressed his profound appreciation for the Academy's leadership, faculty, and students. The president also noted that the Academy is not merely an institution for building character, but also prepares men and women for facing the challenges that beset various state institutions in the modern world. In addition, El-Sisi commended the courses the Academy offers to civilian cadres, stressing the importance of its training and educational programmes in multiple disciplines.
