Channel 5 takes 'bitter' swipe at ITV with Big Brother anniversary post
Channel 5 has taken a swipe at ITV as they marked Big Brother's 25th Birthday, and claimed they are 'not bitter at all' that the show 'left' the Channel to be launched on ITV.
Big Brother was first broadcast on Channel 4 from 2000 to 2010, before it was moved to Channel 5 from 2011 to 2018. It was then relaunched on ITV in 2024 and has already aired two series.
Channel 5 wrote on Threads: 'Happy 25th Birthday to Big Brother - not bitter at all that you left us for @itv'. A clear fan of the channel commented: 'Big Brother UK should never have departed your channel', as Channel 5 replied: 'exactlyyyy'.
Fans of the show were quick to point out that Big Brother was 'axed' from the channel, rather than the show leaving. One person commented: ''Left us for ITV' Didn't you cancel it @channel5_tv', while another said: 'Big Brother didn't leave channel 5, they axed it, the morons'.
A spokesperson for the broadcaster shared a statement at the time, without revealing too much on why the show was being cancelled from the channel. They said: 'The forthcoming series of Big Brother will be the last, of either celebrity or civilian versions, on Channel 5. We'd like to thank Endemol and all of the production team who have worked tirelessly to make the show a success. Most importantly, we'd like to thank fans of the show for their support over the last seven years. We look forward to giving the final series a brilliant sendoff.'
The latest celebrity series of the show in April got everyone talking about one specific couple who were constantly hitting the headlines. Love Island star Chris Hughes, 32, met JoJo Siwa, 22, on Celebrity Big Brother and are now in a sweet relationship.
At the time, JoJo was in a relationship with 27-year-old Australian actor Kath Ebbs, who identifies as non-binary. But speculation quickly arose about Chris and JoJo, who broke up with Kath at the CBB finale party.
Initially, JoJo and Chris didn't confirm their relationship but after making a number of transatlantic trips to see each other, it became obvious that they were more than friends.
The latest reports on the couple are that they are going to be starting a family after JoJo made a TikTok video earlier this month to promote her new single Bette Davis Eyes. She proceeded to play a game of Two Truths and A Lie, asking fans which statement is a lie: '1) I've never smoked a [cigarette] 2) I'm pregnant 3) This song comes out on Spotify Friday.'

Coronation Street star bows out in sad scenes as fans call for U-turn
Coronation Street character Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hefarty) left the programme during Wedneday night's episode of the ITV soap in emotional scenes that played out behind bars Lou Michaelis bowed out of Coronation Street on Wednesday as she tearfully said goodbye to her children from behind bars - amid calls from fans to bring her back. The character, played by Farrel Hegarty, has only been on the ITV soap for a matter of months but has had an explosive time of it, with many viewers not wanting her to go. She arrived alongside her husband Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton), who made an enemy of various Weatherfield residents, and in May, he was jailed for the murder of PC Craig Tinker ( Colson Smith). Prior to that, a f lashback episode confirmed that after Mick had gone to prison for a crime Kit Green committed, and had become an enemy of the policeman in the process. But things were made worse when Mick discovered that Kit and Lou had conceived a baby when he was behind bars, meaning that teenager Brody (Ryan Mulvey) was not his son as he had initially thought. Shortly after the couple's debut, viewers were introduced to their daughters Joanie (Savanna Pennigton) and Shanice (Molly Kilduff), and things reached a climax when Mick broke out of prison in an attempt to take back his eldest. A rooftop tussle with Kit ended in a near-fatal stabbing for the police officer whilst Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) tried to shield Joanie from danger before Mick went back to jail. What's more, another flashback episode had revealed that Lou had put Gary Windass (Mikey North) in a coma when she hit him over the head amid a failed blackmail attempt, and she too was put behind bars. Mick's final scenes aired last week, and on Wednesday's edition of soap, Lou had accepted the fact that she was also going to be inside for a long time after Sally refused to loan her the money she would need for top lawyers. She told the Underworld machinist: "I've come to terms with the fact that I'm gonna do a decent stretch and I don't want you bringing the kids to see me anymore. Not regularly, any road. I don't want them to get used to seeing me in here. In this place." Through tears, she insisted to Sally: "I just think it's best I say goodbye to them for now. For all our sakes." "It's gonna be all right though, in a long time. You will get through this,", Sally tried to reassure her as the pair of them shared a heartfelt parting themselves. Sally vowed to take care of the girls while Lou is behind bars, and the schoolchildren enjoyed one last hug with their mum before they said goodbye. Just after the emotional farewell, Brody also promised his mum that he would be there for his half-sisters. This is not the first time Sally has been responsible for two girls, as she and ex-husband Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) have Rosie (Helen Flanagan) and Sophie (Brooke Vincent) together. Whilst her own daughters are no longer residing in Weatherfield, some of the storylines included Sally trying to push Rosie into stage school in the years before she started up an affair with her teacher John Stape (Graeme Hawley), and learning to accept her youngest as a lesbian. Meanwhile, Sally's second husband Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) is also the father of former regular Faye Windass (Ellie Leach), and even though she was adopted by Anna Windass (Debbie Rush) as a child, he became a constant presence for her throughout her tumultuous teenage years, which saw her at the centre of a violet bullying storyline as well as a secret pregnancy. At the time of Lou's debut on Coronation Street, she and her on-screen husband were dubbed as the new versions of Les and Janice Battersby, but only a short while after playing the hairdresser, Farrel vaguely discussed the exit for the first time to The Mirror and other press. She teased what was ahead, while also confirming the fact that she did know from the start she would be leaving after a matter of months, with an exit always on the cards despite some reports. She explained of why she took on the short-term role, knowing she would only be there for a specific amount of time: "I just think she really appealed to me because she's the sort of person who's never had it easy. "She's built up a lot of coping mechanisms, where she's presenting a hard and feisty character with her walls up, and all she's ever known is these fiery relationships. And probably fiery relationships with a lot of people in her life, which is what makes a character like that so interesting. "Because she's a force and irrational. I read scripts and I go, 'Oh God! What's she doing now? What's she saying now?' Because it's not a way that I would behave, and because of that, it's so much fun to play. It's that desperation to protect that inner circle and because of that, she makes a mess of things. But a character like that is so fun to play, because there's never a dull moment."

Emmerdale fans 'solve' jaw-dropping John twist - but another victim 'sealed'
Emmerdale fans think the latest episode of the ITV soap has confirmed which character will trigger the downfall of killer John Sugden, but it could lead to another death twist Some Emmerdale fans are convinced they now know who will bring down killer John Sugden after a telling scene on Wednesday. The character has framed someone else for his darkest crime, the murder of Nate Robinson. But amid a number of other dodgy actions and more than one character seemingly onto him, it's an unexpected character who could unravel the medic's lies. Fans know that John has been messaging someone at a helpline to offload about his guilt, with him struggling over his actions. What we found out on Wednesday was that the person he's been messaging is none other than village vet Paddy Kirk. Paddy happens to be the father figure of John's husband Aaron Dingle. Fans are now convinced John will let slip everything he has done, after Paddy asked John, unaware it was him, if he wanted to speak on the phone. If Paddy is told anything by John and he recognises his voice, could it be game over for the killer? Fans certainly think so, wondering if Paddy will work it all out and expose the killer. One viewer posted online: "Did everybody see that? Will Paddy put 2+2 together & eventually figure out that he's talking to John on the Guardians helpline?" Another fan said: "Paddy being able to be the one who exposes John is actually a hilarious idea." A third viewer added: "Ahh Paddy is going to be the one to catch John out." Another fan echoed this theory, writing: "Ooo Paddy put it all together mate!" Meanwhile other fans hoped he might team up with John's brother Robert, who is already onto John. One fan suggested more than one character could now team up to take down John. They said: "Robert, Paddy , Cain and Tracy VS John." But other fans were worried about this latest development, sure it could leave Paddy in danger. If John was to find out Paddy was the person he was messaging, surely he would have to cover his tracks if he did confess to a crime. Fans wondered if Paddy would sadly be John's next victim. One viewer commented: "Don't tell me! Paddy's next," as another said: "OMG Paddy," along with a GIF teasing danger ahead for him. A further post said: "If John hurts a hair on Paddy's head, I will riot. He needs to get caught already." Viewers will have to stay tuned to find out if the pair speak and end up realising who each other is, and what this could mean for John. BBC Death in Paradise's 'favourite' detective teased for spin-off appearance as star drops hits
Kris Marshall from BBC's hit show Death in Paradise has teased that he could appear in the show's Australian spin-off Kris Marshall, known for his role as Detective Humphrey Goodman in Death in Paradise, has sparked excitement among fans after hinting at a possible cameo in the show's Australian spin-off, Return to Paradise. Kris originally took over from Ben Miller, who portrayed Richard Poole until his character was dramatically killed off. Kris played Humphrey Goodman from the show's third season through to the end of season six, where he exited the series to pursue a love story with Martha Lloyd, portrayed by Sally Bretton. However, their romantic tale didn't end there, it continued in the spin-off series Beyond Paradise, which follows the couple as they relocated to the Devon countryside to be closer to Martha's family, the Mirror reports. Although he's currently focused on his role in Beyond Paradise, Kris hasn't ruled out making an appearance in Return to Paradise, which has been praised for featuring the franchise's first female lead. The show, already greenlit for a second series, stars Anna Samson as Detective Mackenzie Clarke, bringing a fresh dynamic to the ever-expanding Death in Paradise universe. Speaking with Woman's Day Magazine about a potential crossover, Kris shared: "In the future, I'm definitely not ruling it out, no." He added, with a hint of mystery: "Never say never." If Kris does join the cast of Return to Paradise, he wouldn't be the first detective from the original series to appear. Ardal O'Hanlon, who played DI Jack Mooney, made a guest appearance in the spin-off's debut season. His character returned as Mackenzie's superior from London, and rumours suggest he may return again for the second series of the Aussie drama. The Death in Paradise and Beyond Paradise storylines have crossed before. In Beyond Paradise's first season, fans were delighted to see Humphrey return to the Caribbean with Martha, marking the first on-screen meeting between Humphrey and current DI Neville Parker. Though producers have yet to confirm another crossover, filming for Return to Paradise is already underway and the possibility of Humphrey Goodman appearing has fans buzzing. Adding fuel to the speculation, Kris Marshall was recently spotted in Australia, prompting fans to wonder if a cameo is already in the works for Return to Paradise. One fan speculated on a Facebook fan page: "I wonder what Humph's doing here in Australia? Perhaps a Return to Paradise cameo." Another enthusiast responded, showing just how happy the cross over would make them. They wrote: "That would be spectacularly awesome - DI Goodman in Return to Paradise - with DI Mooney - hope so!". A third chimed in, stating: "Yes, my favourite detective, this needs to happen." For those eager to catch up, Death in Paradise is available for streaming on BBC iPlayer.
