'Terror has a price': CDS Gen Chauhan blasts Pak duplicity on global stage
New Delhi/Singapore: The Shangri-La Dialogue, Asia's premier security forum, witnessed a rare yet pointed exchange between military leaders of India and Pakistan, amid escalating tensions following the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
According to high-level sources present at the event, India's Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Anil Chauhan sent an unambiguous message that New Delhi's patience with cross-border terrorism has reached its limit. Gen Chauhan, speaking in a closed-door session on regional security threats, made a forceful reference to India's recent Operation Sindoor—a precision military campaign targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and across the border. "This operation reflects a decisive shift in India's posture," sources said, quoting General Chauhan. "A new red line has been drawn. The era of strategic restraint in the face of terrorism is over."
Sources say the Indian general stopped short of naming Pakistan directly but made clear references to its long-standing support for proxy terror elements. 'We have endured over two decades of proxy war. The toll on civilian lives, our soldiers, and our economy is unacceptable,' Chauhan reportedly said. 'Operation Sindoor was not just a tactical response, it was a strategic signal.'
The comments came during concurrent sessions where Pakistan's Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, took a more familiar route, calling for 'conflict resolution' over Kashmir and warning of the risks of escalation. In a panel discussion on crisis-management mechanisms, Mirza argued that the absence of sustained dialogue could lead to uncontrollable conflict. He reiterated Pakistan's longstanding position that the Kashmir issue must be resolved 'in accordance with UN resolutions and the will of the people.' However, Indian defence officials dismissed Mirza's remarks as 'predictable deflection,' pointing to Islamabad's continued patronage of terror outfits.

Raipur: A ruckus erupted in Chhattisgarh late Tuesday as BJP leaders staged a protest at the Vaishali Nagar police station in Durg-Bhilai, demanding action against senior Congress leader Brijmohan Singh over an allegedly obscene Facebook comment targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the recently launched counter-terror 'Operation Sindoor'. The controversy escalated after Singh responded to a contentious post originally made by an individual named Ishwar Dubey, adding a vulgar remark aimed at PM Modi. Later, after hours of uproar and initial probe, an FIR was lodged and Singh was taken into custody for questioning. The BJP leaders, upon discovering the post, gathered in large numbers at the police station led by party members including Sharad Gupta, Nitesh Mishra, and Sweety Kaushik, pressing for immediate legal action. Senior BJP leaders said that Singh, a former Congress candidate from Vaishali Nagar and a known face in local politics, had crossed all lines of decency. "This kind of language against the Prime Minister is unacceptable and deeply offensive," said a BJP representative. DGCA finds safety violations by Turkish Airlines, orders immediate compliance
NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has completed a three-day inspection of Turkish Airlines and found several violations of basic aircraft maintenance procedures and norms related to the handling of dangerous goods. The airline has been ordered to ensure full compliance immediately. Turkish Airlines is a codeshare partner of IndiGo. The latter's refusal to end the partnership despite widespread public demand—due to Turkish Airlines' open support to Pakistan during the Indo-Pak conflict—drew sharp criticism. The Centre eventually allowed an extension of the contract by only three months beyond its May 31 deadline, instead of the six months that was requested. An official release from the Civil Aviation Ministry on Wednesday said the DGCA conducted a Safety Oversight and Ramp (SOFA/RAMP) inspection of Turkish Airlines' passenger and cargo flights at Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru between May 29 and June 2. The inspection was carried out under Article 16 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). According to the DGCA, one of the key findings was that aircraft maintenance after arrival at airports was being done by a technician instead of an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME), as required by the rules. This was because an AME was not available. Airworks is the authorised engineering service provider for Turkish Airlines. At Delhi airport, the DGCA inspected Turkish Airlines' cargo. "The cargo contained Dangerous Goods for which permission was required from DGCA for carriage of Explosives to/from over India. This was not found to be attached nor was it mentioned in the Dangerous Goods Declaration mentioned," the release said. At Bengaluru, the marshaller responsible for ground operations did not have proper authorisation or a valid competency card for performing marshalling functions. Another violation noted was the absence of a Service Level Agreement (SLA) between Turkish Airlines and its Ground Handling Agent (GHA). At Hyderabad and Bengaluru, equipment such as ladders, step ladders, trolleys, and Ground Power Units lacked proper accountability and monitoring. Globe Ground India was providing services in these airports without a formal handover from Celebi, the Turkish-based agent whose contract was terminated by the Centre last month. The DGCA has directed Turkish Airlines to address these issues without delay and ensure complete compliance with ICAO standards and recommended practices, along with Indian regulations. "Further follow-up inspections will be conducted as necessary to ensure continuous safety oversight," the release said. The DGCA added that it remains committed to ensuring the safety and regulatory compliance of all foreign operators in Indian airspace. "The inspections were carried out to ensure compliance with both international and national safety regulations," it added.
