New political alliance formed in J&K

Srinagar, June 30 (UNI) Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Lone, Peoples Democratic Front headed by Hakeem Yasin and Justice Department Front, a faction of Jamaat Islami that contested last year Assembly polls- today announced a new alliance-Peoples Alliance for Change.
The announcement of PAC was made by Lone during a press conference which was attended by the top leadership of the three parties.
Lone said the new alliance offers a viable alternative to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
"People of Jammu and Kashmir have endured immense suffering, and we are committed to driving change, " he said.
The new alliance the trio decided to come together in an act of historic unity to declare a new path forward a Declaration for Change rooted in hope, responsibility, and transformation.
"In order to set in motion a process which scripts a pathway to change, the JKPC and the JDF have decided to come together and work for change, " the alliance declaration said. "Irrespective of our ideological differences, we have decided to explore overlaps and move on in a spirit of togetherness."
The alliance said that it believes in the restoration of Article 370, Article 35 A and statehood. The alliance will strive and exhaust all political means in pursuit of these objectives.
The alliance said that one of the biggest tools of disempowerment of the Kashmiris that has emerged, is the system of reservations in J&K.
"The present system of reservations is a regional issue and a systematically discriminates against the people of Kashmir. All the recent lists released by recruitment departments reveal an unambiguous pattern. Upto ninety percent jobs go to the Jammu region. Till now the only party to call it a regional issue has been the JKPC. The JDF joins JKPC in calling it a regional issue. This is a wake-up call for the people. No other traditional party is willing to call a spade a spade and call reservations a regional issue. They are instead partners in this crime against the people of Kashmir, " the alliance declaration said

SP MLA Abu Asim Azmi moves HC, seeks quashing of FIR over his controversial remarks on Aurangzeb

Mumbai, June 30 (UNI) Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Asim Azmi today filed a petition at the Bombay High Court, seeking direction to quash the FIR (first information report) registered against him for his alleged remarks supporting Mughal emperor Aurangzeb made during the Maharashtra Assembly's Budget session on March three, which had created a major controversy. In his petition Azmi had denied the charges levelled against him. Police had earlier registered an offence against him, and he was granted an anticipatory bail in the matter. Against the FIR, Azmi moved the high court. Upon hearing his plea, a division bench of Justices A S Gadkari and Rajesh Patil issued a notice and directed the state and other respondents to file a reply within four weeks' time. It may be recalled that during the assembly session while participating in a debate on the state Budget, Azmi had praised Aurangzeb and said that 'India was called the 'golden bird' and its GDP during Aurangzeb's era was 24 percent'. He referred to historian Ram Puniyani's observations while speaking to media persons. 'The wrong history has been painted. Aurangzeb constructed many temples. I don't believe he was a cruel ruler. Ram Puniyani said that Aurangzeb's battle was about power and wealth, religion had nothing to do with it. Thirty-four percent people who worked with him were Hindu. He destroyed both masjids (mosque) and temples.' The remarks that led to these legal troubles were made by Azmi when he was speaking to the media. Azmi also said that Aurangzeb ruled honestly and did not misuse public money, stating that the emperor did not take even a single rupee from the administration. He mentioned that India's territory under Aurangzeb stretched all the way to Burma and Afghanistan. Continuing his statement, Azmi added that Aurangzeb's army also had Hindu commanders, and the battles fought under his reign were not between Hindus and Muslims. He claimed the historical events were 'misinterpreted' over the years. These comments, however, led to a political storm and drew heavy criticism, especially from Hindu groups and political leaders, who accused Azmi of hurting Hindu religious sentiments. In response, Azmi was suspended from the Maharashtra Assembly. UNI AAA SS

Iran could again begin enriching uranium within months: IAEA Chief Grossi

Vienna, June 30 (UNI) Rafael Grossi, chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said that while the US strikes have caused massive damage to the Iranian nuclear sites, they didn't fully destroy them, potentially enabling Tehran to proceed with enriching uranium in 'just a matter of months". Grossi's statement directly contradicts the stance of US President Donald Trump, who had said that the Iranian nuclear project was pushed back by decades, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the centrifuges at Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan were severely damaged, pushing the program by several years, CBS News reported. In an interview with the media agency's 'Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan' programme, the IAEA chief, giving his stance on the varying assessments said 'This hourglass approach in weapons of mass destruction is not a good idea. 'The capacities they have are there. They can have, you know, in a matter of months, I would say, a few cascades of centrifuges spinning and producing enriched uranium, or less than that. But as I said, frankly speaking, one cannot claim that everything has disappeared and there is nothing there.' Grossi added that while the watchdog group's investigations did not hint at a nuclear weapons program, the uranium enrichment was way beyond needed for civilian use. The situation was further made complicated by Tehran's refusal to answer some 'very important questions.' Verifying Grossi's statement of severe damage on Iranian facilities, a US official told CNN 'As Rafael Grossi said just days ago, the difference between Iran's nuclear program before and after Operation Midnight Hammer is 'night and day,' and a 'very serious level of damage' was done. 'Iran has no air defences, so the idea that they can just start rebuilding a nuclear weapons program is nonsense. As the President (Donald Trump) has said, Iran will never obtain a nuclear weapon,' added the official. Meanwhile, post the ceasefire between Israel and Iran, Tehran has officially withdrawn all government cooperation with the IAEA, accusing it of political bias, non-objectivity, and even sharing data which enabled Tel Aviv in targeting Iran's chief nuclear scientists. There have even been death threats issued against Grossi in wake of the ceasefire, amid the highly anti-IAEA sentiments in the country with Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, stating that Tehran could also rethink its membership of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which prohibits signatories from developing nuclear weapons.
