JDF condemns Pahalgam terror attack, calls it crime against humanity
The Justice and Development Front (JDF), a political party informally established by Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI)-affiliated candidates in February, condemned the Pahalgam terror attack on Sunday saying killing innocents was a crime against humanity. The party said that within the parameters of justice, they stand with the nation in any action following the attack. Addressing a press conference, the party said that they join the nation in sorrow after the attack that killed 26 civilians, most of them tourists, in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam on April 22. President of JDF Shamim Ahmad Thokar said that they had scheduled a convention for the formal launch of the party on April 29 at SKICC but owing to the Pahalgam attack and the national mourning, the programme was cancelled. 'JDF condemns the heinous murders in Pahalgam. Tyranny against innocents is a crime against humanity, which is unacceptable,' he said. 'We will be standing with the nation on whatever action is taken, keeping in mind the parameters of justice,' he said. Jamaat, a politico-religious organisation which was banned by the central government in 2019 for their alleged links to militant outfits, had fielded some 10 candidates as independents in the elections last year in September-October including the prominent Sayyar Ahmad Reshi and Talat Majid in South Kashmir with no success on any seat. During the militancy which erupted in 1989, separatists and Jamaat would boycott elections and hold rallies against voting in J&K. In February, Thokar and Reshi and other members had announced the formation of the party at a convention in South Kashmir to give an 'informal introduction of JDF'. At the press conference, Thokar said that they are formally starting political activities from now on. 'We are starting our political activities from today. And our workers and members across Kashmir, we will be organising conventions and other political activities in the field,' he said. The party also launched its flag and party logo- 'scales of justice'. The participation of the JeI-backed candidates in assembly elections marked the organisation's return to electoral politics after 37 years. The party condemned the targeting of Kashmiri students outside the union territory.

Members of banned Jamaat-e-Islami launch new political party in J&K
Several prominent members of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) on Sunday (April 27, 2025) floated a new political party, Justice and Development Front (JDF), Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), and pledged to participate in all upcoming elections in J&K. 'The party's founding principles are justice, development and public welfare. We intend to take an active role in addressing people's issues. The party will fill the gap between governance and the grassroots, focusing on issues such as education, healthcare, youth employment, and community empowerment,' Sayar Reshi, a former member of the banned JeI, said. Mr. Reshi, who will function as the party's general secretary, contested the 2024 Assembly elections from Kulgam constituency. The JDF, launched at an office in Nowgam, announced Shameem Ahmad Thokar as the party president. Abdul Rehman Shalla, who fought the 2024 assembly elections from Baramulla, has been appointed vice-chairman of the party. 'People supported us (during the elections). We decided to go back to the grassroots level and grow stronger. We will participate in all upcoming elections. People had a sense that their real representatives are not on the ground. We joined the political arena to fill the void,' Mr. Reshi said. Condemning the Pahalgam attack, Mr. Thokar said, 'No words are enough to condemn the dastardly attack. However, I appeal to the Government of India and the Lieutenant Governor to stop the process of blasting and destruction of houses. It has frightened the families living there.' Social justice, fundamental rights The JDF leaders highlighted that the newly-floated party will work towards a future that ensures social justice, economic progress, and protection of fundamental rights for all citizens. 'The JDF is the launch of a new hope for the people of J&K,' they said. Former JeI general secretary Ghulam Qadir Lone was also present at the launch function. Senior JeI leader Ghulam Qadir Wani from Pulwama's Gussu was the first prominent leader to head a JeI panel advocating the decision to contest elections in J&K. Members of the banned JeI contested the 2024 assembly elections from multiple seats in north, south and central Kashmir. However, they failed to win any seat. The decision of a faction of the JeI has split the socio-religious group into two factions. The Union Home Ministry banned the Jamaat-e-Islami in 2019 for being an 'illegal association' under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for a period of five years. In February 2024, the ban was extended till 2029.

Jordan: JDF allocates 5% of profits over 3 years to social responsibility
AMMAN — Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jordan Duty Free (JDF) Ayman Mufleh on Saturday said that the company's board of directors decided to allocate 5 per cent of the company's profits over a period of three years to enhance the development scope and institutionalise social responsibility. Mufleh stressed that this initiative will be allocated to support the education and health sectors as a contribution from the company in the construction and/or maintenance of schools, facilities and health centres. It also aims to keep pace with the increasing demand for these sectors in cooperation with the concerned public sector institutions and within the same mechanism that has been approved by companies and banks that have allocated funds for this purpose, he added. The chairman pointed out that a special bank account will be opened at the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) for this purpose, according to accounting principles, to spend on these projects and within the actual completion and time plans to ensure compliance with implementation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. He called on private sector companies and institutions to join efforts to institutionalise social responsibility, given its developmental impact and improving the services provided to citizens. The social responsibility project to support vital sectors, mainly the education and health sectors, began with the announcement of several initiatives in the presence of Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan. The project was initiated by the Association of Banks in Jordanian by allocating JD90 million, the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company allocated JD40 million, and the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company allocated 5 per cent of its annual profits for this purpose. These initiatives, which come in addition to what is committed in the State Budget for the education and health sectors, will contribute to supporting the government's efforts to upgrade these two "vital" sectors and improve the services provided to citizens.
