2025 Tata Altroz facelift diesel MT: Fuel efficiency tested in city & highway conditions
The 2025 Tata Altroz facelift is offfered with a choice of 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. Check Offers
The Tata Altroz was recently updated bringing in subtle yet important update for 2025 model year. Launched at a starting price of ₹ 6.89 lakh (ex-showroom), the Altroz continues to compete with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the Hyundai i20 and the Toyota Glanza. It is offered across six variants- Smart, Smart+, Pure, Pure+, Creative and Creative+.
Buyers can choose between three powertrains – a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. The Tata Altroz is still the only premium hatchback in India that has a diesel powertrain and it employs a 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine produces 89 bhp and 200 Nm of torque and claimed to return an ARAI-rated mileage of 23.64 kmpl. But how does it perform out on the road? We decided to find out. 2025 Tata Altroz: Real-World Mileage
The test drive covered approximately 58.5 km in and around Bangalore, offering a wide mix of driving conditions. We started off in heavy city traffic, where stop-and-go movement was frequent, followed by stretches of relatively clear highways. The route also included a hill section with steep inclines and descents, adding further variation to the drive cycle.

Adding to the challenge, the car was kept running for over an hour during a shoot break, simulating a common real-world scenario where drivers keep the engine on for air conditioning or electronic devices. The AC was in use for most of the drive, and the car had two occupants throughout the test.
At the end of the test run, the Altroz diesel returned a real-world fuel efficiency figure of 17.6 kmpl. This is noticeably lower than the ARAI-certified mileage of 23.64 kmpl, but understandable given the mixed driving environment, hilly terrain, constant AC usage and extended idling.
Still, for a car running across varied and often demanding conditions, this figure is quite respectable—especially considering that diesel hatchbacks are increasingly hard to come by in this price segment. The 2025 Tata Altroz diesel remains a compelling option for those who value fuel efficiency and highway comfort. While the engine's low-end response isn't ideal for quick city dashes, its strong mid-range and impressive fuel economy make it well-suited for long-distance commuters and frequent travellers.
Coupled with Tata's signature ride stability and a host of premium updates in the facelift, the diesel Altroz continues to offer solid value in a segment that's fast losing diesel options.

Tata Harrier EV vs Tata Curvv EV: Which 22 lakh EV will you pick
The Tata Harrier EV starts at ₹21.50 lakh while the Tata Curvv EV tops out at ₹21.99 lakh Check Offers Tata Motors has widened its electric vehicle portfolio with the launch of the Tata Harrier EV. Launched at ₹ 21.50 lakh, ex-showroom, the Harrier EV is the new flagship for the company's electric vehicle portfolio. Interestingly, the Tata Curvv EV, which was launched in 2024, is priced at ₹ 21.99 lakh for the top of the line Empowered Plus 55 A. While the Harrier EV enters the market as Tata's flagship electric SUV, the Curvv EV targets buyers looking for a more futuristic design and tech-forward experience. The slight price difference between the Harrier EV base variant and the Curvv EV top line variant, puts the two EVs in direct competition, though they differ significantly in size, performance, and features. Tata Harrier EV vs Tata Curvv EV: Dimensions The Tata Harrier EV is significantly larger than the Curvv EV in all measurable aspects. It is 4,607 mm long, 1,922 mm wide, and 1,740 mm tall. In comparison, the Curvv EV is 4,310 mm long, 1,810 mm wide, and 1,637 mm high. The Harrier's longer wheelbase of 2,741 mm, as opposed to the Curvv's 2,560 mm, makes for a more spacious cabin experience. Check details Though both share very similar boot space—a 500-litre capacity—the Harrier EV gets a slight edge at 502 litres. Additionally, when it comes to extra storage space, the Harrier's more practical frunk, or front trunk, has 67 litres of capacity. That is far in excess of the Curvv's tiny 11.6-litre frunk and makes the Harrier better suited to long-distance driving or bigger families. Tata Harrier EV vs Tata Curvv EV: Specs The Harrier EV Adventure comes equipped with a 65 kWh battery pack that powers a rear-mounted electric motor, delivering 238 PS of power. In contrast, the Curvv EV Empowered Plus A uses a smaller 55 kWh battery and features a front-wheel-drive layout. Its motor produces 167 PS and 215 Nm of torque, which is sufficient for most city and highway needs but falls short of the Harrier EV's power output. While the official range figures for the Harrier EV's 65 kWh variant haven't been released yet, Tata is also offering a 75 kWh version that claims a range of up to 627 km (MIDC). Based on this, the smaller battery is still expected to deliver more range than the Curvv EV, which claims a respectable 502 km on a full charge. Charging times also differ. The Harrier EV supports 120 kW DC fast charging, allowing it to charge from 20 to 80 percent in around 25 minutes. On the other hand, the Curvv EV can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in about 40 minutes using a 70 kW fast charger. Also watch: Tata Curvv EV review: Can electric power charge up compact SUV game? Tata Harrier EV vs Tata Curvv EV: Features Though the Harrier EV Adventure is the entry-level variant, it doesn't feel barebones. The interior receives a 10.25-inch infotainment screen and a digital driver display of the same size, both wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible. The vehicle also comes with side step integration for enhanced ingress and egress, particularly beneficial for senior passengers or children. The top-of-the-line Curvv EV Empowered Plus A emphasizes in-cabin luxury and high-end conveniences. It is equipped with ventilated front seats, a 6-way power driver seat, reclining rear seats, as well as dual-zone automatic climate control. The rear passengers also enjoy sunshades as well as a powered tailgate. The infotainment system consists of a larger 12.3-inch screen and a premium 9-speaker JBL sound system. A wireless charging phone, panoramic sunroof, and an air purifier complement the interior ambiance further. Tata Harrier EV vs Tata Curvv EV: Safety Both models come equipped with six airbags, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, hill hold and descent control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and electronic stability control. They also feature regenerative braking with paddle shifters, vehicle-to-load (V2L), and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging technologies. Tata Motors Commits Rs 35,000 Crore To Expand EV And New Car Lineup
India's Tata Motors plans to invest up to 350 billion rupees ($4.1 billion or Rs 35,000 crore) over the next five years, aiming to cement its position as the country's top electric vehicle maker amid rising competition and a push to adopt clean cars. The maker of the Nexon and Punch sport utility vehicles will nearly double its portfolio from eight models to 15, launch more EVs and compressed natural gas cars as well as enhance the vehicles' technology features, according to its investor day presentation released on Monday. India, the world's third-largest car market, is planning stricter emission norms starting 2027 and wants EVs to form 30% of all car sales by 2030. Tata Motors did not share its investment plan for the current year to March 2026, but said last month the domestic businesses, including commercial vehicles, would have a capital expenditure of about 80 billion rupees. Intense competition in the combustion engine market has allowed rival Mahindra & Mahindra to overtake Tata. China's MG Motor has also challenged Tata's EV dominance with the "Windsor" model, outselling its products since late last year. Yet, Tata Motors maintained its target of 16% market share by March 2027, aiming to reach 18%-20% by March 2030.
