Thrills and spills at Aldo Scribante Raceway
Round three of the Algoa Motorsport Regional and Club championship provided some close racing through all of the classes, as well as many incidents and accidents.
Ron Scott ran his classic Ford Escort wide coming onto the main straight and got his back wheels on the grass, which led to a high-speed roll in front of the pit entrance, while Syd Lippstreu ran wide out of the fast-flowing sweep and buried his Toyota Celica in the tyre wall.
There was oil dropped on the circuit early in the morning when one of the motorcycle's engines failed, leading to various spins during the cold morning conditions.
A highlight of the day was the first visit to Scribante by the Kaltron Formula Supercar Series, with nine Killarney-based cars enjoying an away race as part of their 2025 championship.

All roads lead to EL Grand Prix Circuit
The Border Motorsport Club is set for a busy weekend of action at the iconic East London Grand Prix Circuit as it hosts round four of its regional main circuit championship on Saturday, followed by a Top End Run on Sunday. The Top End Run will see the cars starting on the short back straight, going through Beacon Bend onto the main straight for a 600m sprint, where a speed gun will be used to ascertain the top speed of the day. The organisers are expecting about 40 cars, which will be competing in three different normally aspirated classes, namely four-cylinders and rotary engines, six-cylinders and then eight/ten/twelve-cylinders. The event has also been opened up to motorcycles, and at the time of going to the press, there was interest shown from a couple of the local two-wheel racers. The event has attracted a wide variety of cars as well as some of the Simola Hillclimb big names and will be led by local heroes Darron and Martin Gudmanz, Wade and Jody van Zummeren in their thunderous Nissan GTRs, along with Gauteng visitor Craig Czank who will be in a Nissan GTR 32, and Gqbergha's Gordon Nicholson in his super smooth Audi R8. A host of East London's local racing drivers joining in on the action are Shaun Gradwell in his BMW E36, Shaun Vallance in a BMW M4, Grant Godfrey, Pramesh Hooka, Devesh Reddy, Viswa Williams and Leeroy Randall in Nissan GTR R35's, Bevan Choudree in a turbocharged VW Polo, Gary Schultz in a Nissan SR20, Johan van der Westhuizen in a BMW V8, Bryce Choudree in a BMW E46 M3, Naveen Reddy in a VW Golf 7R, Laren Odendaal in an Audi RS3, Viswa Williams in a Ferrari 488GTB, Kyle Hart in a Range Rover SVR, Diego Machado in a Mercedes GT53, Jeandre Coetzer in a Nissan 370Z, Buntu Jwaai in an Audi RS5 and Lincoln Randall in a VW Golf. The last Top End Run held was in 2018 and was won by Viswa Williams in his Nissan GTR R35 with a speed of 283km/h. The Top End event starts with practice runs from 9.30am and timed runs from 10.30am. Gqeberha officials to fly SA flag at World University Games
Besides logistics, both her and Kotze's roles entail everything from ensuring athletes stay aligned with training programmes to submitting crucial documentation to the local organising committee. Goosen said there was a different dynamic in managing the four-member diving team compared to the swimming contingent of 23. 'I'm really excited about the talent among the divers. 'It's only the second time we have had divers in the squad.' Kotze returns to the global stage after managing the University Sports SA (USSA) swimming team at the 2023 Games in Chengdu, China, an event postponed from 2021 due to Covid. 'It was as close to the Olympic experience as you could get,' she said. 'Walking into the packed stadium behind the South African flag as Chinese president Xi Jinping opened the ceremony is a moment I'll never forget.' Those Games proved highly successful for SA, with the swimmers earning seven of the 20 medals. Preparations by the Madibaz pair started last September. 'We've made monthly presentations to the USSA high-performance committee, followed by one-on-one sessions with head coaches and the swimming committee,' Kotze said. 'Now that the team have been selected, the real work begins.' She praised the support received from USSA. 'There's a dedicated team we can turn to at any time. Their support has been invaluable. It really does take a village.' Kotze will work alongside coaches Marco Markgraaff, from Kovsies, and Keenan Riffel, of Tuks, both of whom were also part of the 2023 delegation.
