Cruz office says he returned from Greece ‘as fast as humanly possible' when floods hit Texas
'The Senator was already in the middle of preplanned family vacation travel overseas when the flooding occurred on July 4. Within hours, he spoke by phone with Governor (Greg) Abbott, Lt. Governor (Dan) Patrick, Texas Emergency Management Director Nim Kidd, and President (Donald) Trump, working to ensure that the maximum federal assets were available for search and rescue,' Cruz's office said in a statement to The Hill.
'He and his team worked closely with local officials and with families of missing girls throughout that time. He promptly booked a flight back home. Given the time difference, he left Athens on Sunday morning and was back in Texas that night. And he was in Kerrville on the ground early Monday morning,' the statement continued.
While he was gone, Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) met with Homeland Secretary Kristi Noem, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R), Rep. Chip Roy (R) and Sheriff Larry Leitha for a briefing on Saturday.
Cruz said he spoke with leaders to help coordinate rescue efforts while abroad and help a separate press conference upon his return to Kerr County.
'The flooding we are seeing in Central Texas is absolutely devastating. Heidi and I send our heartfelt condolences to all those who have been directly impacted by this natural disaster. We thank President Trump for quickly approving Governor Abbott's disaster declaration, and Secretary Noem for being on the ground and sending additional personnel to support Texans,' Cruz said in a statement on Sunday as multiple missing young girls and counselors at Camp Mystic were pronounced dead.
In a later interview with Fox News, he suggested something 'went wrong' with the state's flood warning systems as the Guadalupe River water swelled without much notice to residents in the area.
'We urge everyone to heed the warnings from local officials and stay out of harm's way. We are immensely grateful to the first responders—both in Texas and from across the country—who are risking their own safety to rescue those in need. As Texans, we must remain united in spirit and grit, and support our neighbors as we always do best.'
In the past, Cruz face criticism for a 2021 trip to Cancún in the midst of Winter Storm Uri.

Why Tucker Carlson still matters
A couple of days after the U.S. airstrikes on nuclear targets in Iran, former Fox News personality Tucker Carlson made a radical proclamation: 'I think I'm going to pull back from the internet a little bit, and I think I'm going to be a wiser person for doing so.' To show his dedication to the disconnected life, Carlson spent the next three weeks or so interviewing commentator Saagar Enjeti; Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian; libertarian Scott Horton; former Navy SEAL Rob O'Neill; Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.; Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia); reporter Liz Collin; and former Fox News host Clayton Morris.

Cuomo to run as third-party candidate in NYC after loss to Mamdani
Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) formally announced he is running as an independent in New York City's mayoral race in November after losing to Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani in the party's primary. 'Only 13 percent of New Yorkers voted in the June primary. The general election is in November and I am in it to win. My opponent Mr. Mamdani offers slick slogans, but no real solutions,' Cuomo said in a campaign video posted to the social platform X on Monday. A source close to Cuomo's campaign told The Hill's partners at NewsNation earlier on Monday that Cuomo will ask all candidates with the exception of Mamdani to pledge that any candidate who is not in the lead by mid-September will drop out of the race, himself included. Fox News Host Booed From MAGA Crowd Over Epstein Files
So, you may have heard that President Donald Trump's handling of information surrounding Jeffrey Epstein gone down swimmingly with his base. Basically, there's been a ton of conspiracy theories surrounding the sex offender and billionaire (Epstein, of course), many of which have been promoted in the past by members of the Trump administration. This includes Attorney General Pam Bondi, who claimed earlier this year that she had a list of Epstein's clients "sitting on [her] desk," and Elon Musk, who said that Trump hadn't released the files because he was in them (he later said that he regretted the comments). Earlier this week, the Justice Department said it wouldn't release any further Epstein-related files and that there was "no incriminating 'client list.'" Trump himself then got ratioed for the first time on Truth Social this weekend, when he told MAGA fans, "Let's not waste Time and Energy on Jeffrey Epstein, somebody that nobody cares about." Anyway, if you wanted to put a finger to the wind as to how MAGA folks are reacting to this, consider Fox News' Laura Ingraham's appearance at the Turning Point USA Student Action Summit. In it, she said, "While all this good stuff is happening, there is a lot — and we're not gonna like everything — bubbling under the surface." She continued, "I'm going to ask a few questions to all of you. How many of you are satisfied, you can clap, with the results of the Epstein investigation? Clap." When the audience started booing, she said, "Okay, I told you to clap. You guys aren't listening, I'm not gonna grade you on a curve." Then, someone yelled, "Not satisfied," to which she said, "I was gonna get to that. How many of you are not satisfied with the results of the investigation?" Cue raucous applause. "I've been around Washington long enough to know that a lot of this infighting story is overblown. All these people are friends of mine. I want to get the family back together," she added, noting that she does "adore" Pam Bondi. Laura further said that she thinks what is needed is "clarity of presentation" and for people who have abused children to "rot in jail." The cognitive dissonance with having Trump as the president and saying you care about victims...
