
DAFM issued over €37.5m in scheme payments last week
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) paid out over €37.5 million in scheme payments to farmers last week.
The vast majority of the payments, over €34 million, were made under the Agri-Climate Rural Environment Scheme (ACRES).
This figure includes balancing payments in respect of participation in ACRES in 2024 worth €33.2 million paid to 42,444 participants.
These payments bring the amount paid to farmers for ACRES to almost €490 million since the agri-environmental scheme commenced in January 2023.

The data, published by the department, also shows that €1.8 million was paid out last week under the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Schemes (TAMS).
€1.7 million was paid to farmers in TAMS 3, while an additional €85,000 was paid out for TAMS 2.
Around €64.6 million has now been paid out under TAMS 3 across 7,386 claims. There has been 28,316 TAMS 3 applications approved with over 9,366 payment claims submitted.
The latest update also shows that a further €490,000 was paid last week for the 2024 Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) and Complimentary Redistributive Income Support for Sustainability (CRISS).
This brings the total paid out to 119,436 farmers under these measures to €845 million.
This figure includes the Complementary Income Support for Young Farmers (CISYF) at €38 million and the National Reserve (€3.2 million).
An additional €550,000 was issued by the department to farmers under the 2024 Eco Scheme.
€80,000 was paid out for the Areas of Natural Constraint (ANC) and Areas of Specific Constraint (ASC).
The department issued over €250,000 to farmers participating in the Organic Farming Scheme (OFS), bringing the total payout to €57 million to 4,742 farmers.
DAFM also issued €139,000 under the Straw Incorporation Measure (SIM), €86,000 for the Baling Assistance Payment (BAP), €4,000 under the Red Clover Scheme, and €5,400 to farmers in the Multi species Sward Scheme.

780 TAMS tranche 5 applications ‘in progress'
780 applications made under tranche 5 of the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Schemes (TAMS 3) remain to be processed by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM). According to the latest data published by the department, 4,687 (80%) out of the 5,823 applications submitted under this tranche have now been approved. A further 285 applications have been rejected by the department, while 71 have been withdrawn. The scheme, which is divided across a range of different measures, provides grants to farmers to build or improve a specified range of farm buildings and equipment on their farm. Source: DAFM The department also confirmed that 156 applications made under tranche 4 are still being processed by the department. 5,254 out of 5,864 applications made under that tranche have been approved. There are 22 applications still outstanding in tranche 3. The department noted that 3,399 of the 3,799 tranche 3 applications have been approved. DAFM is yet to provide an update on the status of applications submitted under tranche 6. Tranche 7 of the scheme opened for applications on March 29 and will close today (Friday, June 6).

Forestry: 505 felling licences issued so far this year
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) issued 505 felling licences to forestry owners by the end of May this year. 371 of the licences were granted to private owners, while the remaining 134 related to Coillte forests. The licences issued up to May 30 cover a total area of 6,261ha. In 2024, felling licences were a total of 21,850ha, down from 33,416 in the previous year. Of the 693 felling licences applied for so far in 2025, 520 have been submitted by private owners. Last week, 23 felling licences were issued by the department, down from 26 in the previous week. Forestry In the first five months of the year, 203 afforestation licences were issued relating to 1,580ha. The department said that 166 valid afforestation licences have been submitted this year. A total of 1,242ha of forestry has been planted so far this year, with the highest amount, 378ha, planted in April. The latest forestry dashboard figures from DAFM note that the figures for afforestation planted in 2025 reflect afforestation that has been paid at first grant stage this year to date only, including the Native Area Tree Scheme (NTAS). The government has set an annual target of 8,000ha of new forestry in order to meet climate targets. A total of 261 licences have been issued for 91km of forestry roads – the data shows that 37km of roads have been constructed so far in 2025. There have been 195 licences issued by the department so far this year for the Reconstitution of Ash Dieback Scheme, relating to 637ha. 122 licences have been approved for the NTAS (133ha), 44 for the Woodland Improvement Scheme (256ha) and 56 for the Deer Tree Shelter scheme (239ha). Two licences have been issued for the Native Woodland Conservation Scheme this year for 17ha. The department has issued 16 licences for the Climate Resilient Reforestation Scheme covering 91ha.

DAFM: Sales of fertilisers increase by over 105%
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) has said that 694,050t of fertiliser was sold in the first two quarters of the fertiliser year. This represents an increase of almost 106% when compared to the corresponding amount in the previous year when 337,246t of fertiliser was sold. However, the latest figure is still below the totals for Q1 and Q2 in 2021/2022 of 808,509t and 2020/2021 of 934,307t. The National Fertiliser Database statistics show that from October 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025 (covering Q1 and Q2) 388,657t of compound fertilisers and 305,393t of straight fertilisers were sold. Over 244,600t of nutrient was sold in the period, which is up 97% on the previous year. The department previously confirmed that 20,035t of fertiliser was sold in Q1, representing a 38% increase (5,530t) on the same period in the previous year. This means that some 674,000t of fertiliser was purchased in the three months up to March 31. DAFM The latest data shows that a total of 665,954t of nitrogen (N) fertiliser was sold in Q1 and Q2, up 106% on the 323,000t sold in the same period last year. However, it is still down significantly on the 787,275t of N which was sold in the timeframe in 2021/2022. 380,000t of the overall N figure sold from October 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025 were compounds, with 285,744t sold as straights. Sales of phosphorous (P) rose by 107% compared to the same period last year to 363,764t, while potassium (K) sales jumped by 109% to 402,140t in the period. The most popular compound fertilisers based on sales over the period were 18-6-12 (83,951t), 27-2.5-5 (63,965t) and 24-2.5-10 (57,143t). By the end of the Q2 in the 2025 fertiliser year, 14,000t of stabilised urea compounds were sold. The department also said that over 59,000t of straight urea (46%), 27,785t of straight stabilised urea (46%), 61,620t of Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN) 26% + 5% sulphur (S) and 12,700t of straight potassium (50%) was sold in the period.
