Cision Canada2 days ago

ROME, June 11, 2025 /CNW/ -- The sense of anticipation is increasing, the names are unveiled, and the stories begin to take shape: today, at the official presentation at the Hall of Honour of the Italian National Olympic Committee, the Fair Play Menarini Foundation announced the names of the national and international sports legends who will be the awardees of the 29th edition of the Award, due to take place on July 2nd and 3rd in Florence and Fiesole.
These new champions of ethics, loyalty, and respect, who come from a wide variety of different sporting disciplines, will join Fair Play Menarini to promote the values that make sport a significant driver in the growth of the younger generations.
"Fair play is an essential principle in both sport and life; it is the foundation upon which we can build a better society and educate the younger generations," stated Giovanni Malagò, President of CONI. " The Fair Play Menarini International Award, now in its 29th edition, offers a remarkable means through which we can communicate the true value of this concept, which is deeply rooted in our identity. This award is a recognition that goes far beyond competitive results. I proudly remember the ties that bind Italy's sporting heritage to fair play, thanks to Eugenio Monti and his extraordinary gestures at the 1964 Innsbruck Games, which allowed him to receive the Pierre de Coubertin World Trophy dedicated to fair play, the first ever athlete to deserve this recognition. A precious legacy to be renewed thanks to this award, which has now become a tradition."
Athletics offers a truly stellar lineup this year, starting with Gianmarco Tamberi, world high jump champion in Budapest 2023 and Olympic gold medal at the Tokyo 2021 Games. Nadia Battocletti, silver medallist in the 10.000 metres at the Paris 2024 Games, and high jump legend Blanka Vlasic, double world champion and Olympic silver and bronze medallist, will also be there. Triple jump star Andy Diaz, bronze medallist at the Paris 2024 Games and newly crowned indoor world champion, Rigivan Ganeshamoorthy, gold medallist in the discus throw at last year's Paralympic Games, are also among this year's awardees. Flying the flag for football will be Demetrio Albertini, World and European runner-up with the Italian National Azzurri team. Fencing will be represented on stage by Arianna Errigo, one of the greatest foil athletes of all time, with a record of 10 world titles, 4 Olympic medals and 5 World Cup trophies. Paola Fantato, who has a remarkable sporting career and is winner of 8 Paralympic medals in archery across five different editions, will be captivating the Fair Play Menarini audiences who shall also have the chance to relive the moment when judoka Alice Bellandi stepped onto the highest place on the podium at the last Olympic Games. Basketball enthusiasts will be delighted to see awardee Sasha Vujacic, two-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers on stage whilst Guido Meda, the unmistakable voice of MotoGP who has been thrilling Italian fans for years, will be this year's awardee in the sports journalism category.
Alongside the great champions there are also Nicola Nardo, Michele Vivalda, and Alessandro Bugli, three budding talents who, at today's press conference at CONI, received the "Young Athletes" Fair Play Menarini Award, dedicated to outstanding acts of sportsmanship shown by the younger generations.
Following on from today's press conference, the spotlight will be on June 26 in Florence, when the Special Fiamme Gialle "Study and Sport" Award will be presented. The city of Florence, birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, will also host the traditional gala dinner on Wednesday, July 2nd, in the unique setting of Piazzale Michelangelo.
The Award ceremony is set to be held on the evening of Thursday, July 3rd, at the thousand-year-old "gem" of the Roman Theatre in Fiesole. The partnership between the Fair Play Menarini International Award and Sky TG24 continues for the 29th edition giving coverage of event. Hosts of the Award ceremony will be Rachele Sangiuliano, Michele Cagiano, and Omar Schillaci, who shall be enchanting the audience alongside fellow journalist Federico Buffa.
" Listening to the stories of these champions, discovering the actions that have allowed them to become role models, reliving their sporting feats: all this will be an extraordinary opportunity to foster the deepest meaning of sport – declared Valeria Speroni Cardi and Filippo Paganelli, Board Members of the Fair Play Menarini Foundation – Our hope is that the integrity and the achievements of these exceptional athletes will convey the core values of loyalty and commitment, which sport continues to embody, to future generations".
The Istituto per il Credito Sportivo e Culturale is an Institutional Partner of the 29th Fair Play Menarini International Award, whilst Sustenium, Frecciarossa, Estra, and Adiacent are partners of the initiative.

Create Account According to court documents obtained by Us Magazine , the former Playboy model has demanded exclusive use of the marital home that she and the 12-time Olympic medallist own in Terrace, Fla. '(Kayla) needs the exclusive use of this home and the contents thereof both now and in the future for herself and the minor children,' the filing reads. The doc indicated that Lochte has been staying in a separate home — valued at US$440,000 — since the couple split in March. Reid also claims in her petition that, during their marriage, the former swimmer took several joint assets and income and used them to purchase other assets — some of which are in his name. '(Those) assets are presently being held by (Ryan) in trust for and for all the benefit of (Kayla), and the court should award to (Kayla) her full interest in said assets,' her filing continued. Reid also is asking for a piece of two business — Lochte Enterprises and Legendaryswimming – which she invested in with her estranged husband during their marriage. '(Kayla) makes a claim for equitable distribution of the corporate defendant because she has been of great assistance of (Ryan), only in the marital business but also in terms of providing a home environment which supported (Ryan's) needs in every respect.' While Reid filed for the divorce on March 26, the couple only announced the split last week on their social media accounts. Reid, a former Playboy model, described ending the marriage as 'one of the most painful' decisions of her life. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. It was reported earlier this week that the couple is deeply in debt. According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly , the estranged couple owes more than $369,000 to a variety of creditors, including the IRS. The Daily Mail reported that Lochte and Reid have an unpaid balance of $136,000 to the Internal Revenue Service from the years 2021 and 2022. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. On top of that, a lien was filed by Shands Teaching Hospital and Clinic for a total of nearly $230,000 stemming from two separate incidents. The first reportedly occurred in November 2023 when Lochte is said to have spent two days in a Gainesville medical facility for an unspecified treatment, accruing $175,000 in unpaid bills, and another instance in February 2024 for an additional $54,000. Additionally, a lien of more than $3,000 was filed in December 2024 on their Gainesville, Fla., property by the local homeowners association. The Fletcher Park Owner's Association reportedly cited Lochte and Reid for several 'unpaid' fees, including 'special assessments, late fees, costs of collection (and) attorney's fees.' This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Lochte's legal team has yet to respond to Us Weekly 's request for comment on the situation. Read More Lochte and Reid share three children: Son Caiden Zane, 7, and daughters Liv Rae, 6, and Georgia June, who turns 2 on June 22. Kayla, who is the primary caretaker for the children, said the 'marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken' and her petition asked the court to award her sole parental responsibility for the kids, but also proposed sharing legal custody. Olympic gold medalist Sarah Hildebrandt leads new Real American Freestyle wrestling signees

Olympic gold medalist Sarah Hildebrandt headlines a group of four women who have signed with Real American Freestyle wrestling. Hildebrandt became the fourth American woman to win a gold medal in Olympic wrestling when she defeated Yusneylis Guzman Lopez of Cuba in the 50-kilogram final last year in Paris. Other signees the new company announced Thursday are Olympic silver medalist Lucía 'Jami' Yepez Guzman, Audrey Jimenez and Zeltin Hernandez Guerra. They join Kennedy Blades, a silver medalist for the United States at the Paris Olympics, as the anchors of the women's division. 'Real American Freestyle was created to trailblaze, and these incredible women joining our roster are a critical part of that,' RAF commissioner Hulk Hogan said in a statement. Yepez Guzman, who is from Ecuador, was a silver medalist at the Paris Olympics. She also won gold at the 2023 Pan American Games, the 2021 Junior Pan American Games and the 2021 U23 World Wrestling Championships. Jimenez, 19, was a U.S. Olympic Trials runner-up. She was the first female to win an Arizona state championship in the boys division. She won the 2025 Senior Pan American Championships at 50 kilograms last month, with a win over Guzman Lopez in the semifinals. Hernandez Guerra is a Mexican who won gold at the U23 Pan American Championships last year. Real American Freestyle events will feature matches at eight men's and four women's weight classes. The first is scheduled for Aug. 30 in Cleveland, with other sites to be named in the coming months. ___ AP sports:

Canada's Summer McIntosh breaks own world record in 400-metre individual medley

VICTORIA — Even after breaking yet another world record, Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh believes there's more to come. The 18-year-old from Toronto capped her stunning run at the Canadian Swimming Trials in Victoria on Wednesday with a first-place finish in the 400-metre individual medley. She swam the race in 4:23.65 seconds, breaking the world record of 4:24.38 that she set at the Olympic trials in Toronto last May. It's the third time McIntosh has set a world record at this year's Canadian trials. Start your day with a roundup of B.C.-focused news and opinion. She posted a new mark in the 200m individual medley on Monday and in the 400m freestyle on Saturday. Making history hasn't been on the teenage swimming sensation's mind as she competed this week, though. 'During the meet I don't really like to think about it,' McIntosh said. 'I'll celebrate and then kind of process it and focus on the next race. 'I know I can go faster. ' McIntosh also broke her own Canadian records in the 800m freestyle on Sunday, finishing in 8:05.07 — nearly five seconds faster than her previous time — and in the 200m butterfly on Tuesday. 'I think it's more fun chasing records that you haven't broken yet,' McIntosh said. 'It's immensely easier to break your own, because you kind of have to look at it as just going your personal best time.' The two-time Olympian captured three golds and one silver at the Paris Olympics last summer. She is the first Canadian ever to take three golds at a single Games. McIntosh wasn't the only swimmer to set a record on Wednesday. Ethan Ekk posted a new mark in the 200m men's backstroke, finishing in 1:56.54. He was .20 seconds off the previous record Blake Tierney notched at the Olympic trials last May. Tierney finished second Wednesday with a time of 1:57.04. Ekk, 18, also won the 400m freestyle earlier in the week. Two Canadian para-swimming records also fell on Wednesday. Nicholas Bennett won the multi-class 200m individual medley with a time of 2:06.36, just .39 behind his SM14 world record. 'With that race now, when we get a little bit more endurance under our belt, we'll be able to challenge my world record again,' Bennett said. Reid Maxwell finished second in 2:30.12, to edge his SM8 Canadian record. Tyson Jacob swam a SM5 Canadian record time of 3:33.80.
