The Print23-04-2025

The wider Asia-Pacific market, however, grapples with a decline in buyout activity, with regional volumes plummeting by nearly 49 per cent.
New Delhi [India], April 23 (ANI): With 26 per cent of the deal volume, India has emerged as the largest private equity buyout in the healthcare sector in the Asia-Pacific region in 2024, said a report by the global private investment firm Bain and Capital.
'India also appears more resilient to deal downturns than other countries in the region, with buyout volumes dipping only 18 per cent from 2023, vs. a nearly 49 percent drop across Asia-Pacific overall', said the report
This growth can be attributed to a combination of buoyant capital markets, strong economic fundamentals, and a burgeoning investor confidence, fuelled by successful private equity exits, such as Advent International's USD 1.6 billion sale of BSV Group to Mankind Pharma.
'Successful PE exits with strong returns, such as Advent International's USD 1.6 billion sale of BSV Group to Mankind Pharma, have also validated India's buyout market, making it more attractive for future investment,' the report added.
Strong growth is projected to continue in India's healthcare sector, with healthcare spending expected to reach USD 320 billion by 2028.
In India, over the past two years, investments have come in the provider and related services space and biopharma and related services, with a sharper focus on provider deals. In the provider space, investments have gravitated to hospitals, clinics, and supporting services.
The report highlighted that the India has consistently delivered favourable returns and has enabled a range of successful exits for PE firms through initial public offerings (boosted by strong public markets), strategic acquisitions (bolstered by acquirers' strong balance sheets), and sponsor-to-sponsor deals (such as KKR's USD 839 million acquisition of Healthium Medtech from Apax Funds).
'With a proven track record, favourable macroeconomic conditions, and a diverse healthcare landscape, India is expected to remain a prime investment location for PE firms,' the report added. (ANI)

India poised to become 3rd largest manufacturing hub: Union Minister Pralhad Joshi

Dharwad (Karnataka) [India], June 8 (ANI): Union Minister for Consumer Affairs and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi on Sunday expressed strong confidence that India is on track to transform into a global manufacturing hub, citing the country's supportive environment, abundant resources, and dynamic youth. Speaking at the inauguration of the 3rd Greenfield Unit and Sri Rama Temple built by Hodek Vibration Technologies Private Limited in Belur Industrial Area in Dharwad, Joshi highlighted India's unprecedented growth in manufacturing under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and its emergence as a self-reliant nation across sectors and its potential to become the world's third-largest producer, surpassing challenges faced in 2014. 'India will transform into a global manufacturing hub in the future, as it has a supportive environment, resources and an empowered youth that is required for the manufacturing sector,' the Union Minister stated. 'Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is achieving unprecedented growth in the manufacturing sector today. India today is self-reliant in everything from industry, jobs, education, information technology, transport, and electricity. The import situation that existed in 2014 is no longer there. It is developing as the largest exporting country in the world. Until now, China and Vietnam were the only leading producing countries in the world. Now, India has also joined that list and will emerge as the 3rd largest producer,' he added. Joshi noted the global demand for Indian talent, particularly in Germany, as the country leverages its vibrant youth and resources. 'Today, there is a high demand for Indian youth all over the world, including Germany. Due to the shortage of loyal, educationally qualified employees and technicians, foreign countries are turning to India. India has amazing opportunities in every way, including its vibrant and dynamic youth, resources, and environment, and locals should also take advantage of this,' he stated. Abhijit Khanvilkar, Director of Hodek Vibration Technologies Private Limited, highlighted local opportunities, stating, 'Skilled human resources were available in Dharwad, but not enough job opportunities were available. We initially set up a unit in Dharwad, which has grown to three units, creating job opportunities for up to 500 persons.' Following the inauguration of the greenfield unit, Joshi also inaugurated the Lord Sri Rama Temple there. Earlier, NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam had said that India's manufacturing sector must grow 15 per cent annually to contribute at least 25 per cent to the country's GDP (or USD 7.5 trillion) through Viksit Bharat 2047. According to Joshi, the greenfield unit would help boost industrial growth in the region of North Karnataka and contribute to local employment generation and economic growth. In a post on X, Johsi added that Hodek Vibration Technologies Private Limited was committed to sustainability and has inaugurated a 155 kWp rooftop solar power plant at its Pune unit, aimed at reducing the company's carbon footprint. He noted that the Dharwad unit had also adopted eco-friendly measures. 'Moments from the inauguration of the Lord Sri Ram Temple and its third greenfield unit built by Hodek Vibration Technologies Private Limited at Belur Industrial Area, Dharwad, today. This greenfield unit in Dharwad will boost industrial growth in North Karnataka. It will contribute to local employment generation and economic growth. Hodek Vibration Technologies Private Limited is committed to sustainability and has inaugurated a 155 kWp rooftop solar power plant at its Pune unit. This will promote the use of renewable energy with the aim of reducing the company's carbon footprint. The Dharwad unit has also adopted such eco-friendly measures and has ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certification,' Joshi stated in a post on X. The Union Minister was accompanied by former MLA Amrut Desai, former MLC Nagaraj Chhabbi and Abhijeet Khanwilkar, Director of Hodek Vibration Technologies Private Limited, among others. (ANI)

J-K: LG Sinha inaugurates Kathua Waterfront, calls it

Kathua (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 8 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the Kathua Waterfront, a transformative urban rejuvenation project, on Sunday, dedicating it to the people of Kathua as a space for recreation, wellness, and community engagement. The 1,200-metre stretch along the Kathua Canal is designed to reshape the city's landscape, economy, and social fabric while promoting sustainability and women's empowerment. LG Sinha emphasised that the project aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for urban transformation, calling it a 'foundation for a strong future' that balances development with cultural identity. LG Manoj Sinha said, 'I thank all the contributors to this project, which has been completed under Corporate Social Responsibility. I believe we should not view such developments just like other key infrastructure projects-- a waterfront or riverfront, they enhance the quality of life for people. This project holds significance for Kathua's economic, social, and cultural development. The 1200-metre-long waterfront offers a multifunctional public space--featuring walking, skating, and cycling tracks, a yoga spot, and provision for 15 restaurants.' 'It has also generated direct and indirect employment opportunities for local residents,' he added. The project has already provided direct employment to 150 individuals, with a significant number being women. 'This initiative not only rejuvenates the city but also empowers our Nari Shakti,' Sinha said. He urged other cities to compete in improving citizens' quality of life, saying, 'Smart cities need smart and responsible citizens.' Sinha expressed satisfaction with Jammu's infrastructure growth but called for continued efforts to modernise towns and villages. 'Every city has a soul. It nurtures aspirations. We must ensure balanced development,' he said. The LG also launched the Integrated Command and Control Centre and flagged off a bicycle rally to mark the occasion. Earlier in the day, Manoj Sinha had launched a scathing attack on Pakistan, accusing the neighboring country of attempting to 'destabilise Jammu and Kashmir's economy, divide people on religious lines, and damage its tourism sector,' even as he laid the foundation stone of a Rs 1,240 crore industrial unit in Kathua.
