he Haj committee advised prospective pilgrims to carefully read the guidelines and undertakings before submitting their forms. The passport must be issued on or before the closing date of application and remain valid at least until Dec 31, 2026.
The committee said that cancellation on any ground — except in case of death or grave medical illness of the pilgrim — would attract penalties and may result in financial loss to the applicant.
"Earlier a separate circular issued from the Haj committee suggested to keep Rs 1.5 lakh ready for first instalment of the pilgrimage package, apart from the mandatory passport," the official said.
Haj pilgrims from Odisha, who had gone to Mecca this year, have begun returning. The first batch of Haj pilgrims, comprising 28 members, reached the Kolkata airport last week. In May, 390 pilgrims had left for Mecca.

Archana Puran Singh goes house-hunting in Dubai, loves Rs 12 cr apartment with Burj Khalifa view, private pool, helipad: ‘I'll have to buy a helicopter now'
Archana Puran Singh, who is currently posting vlogs from her trip to Dubai, went house-hunting with her family. As always, Archana was accompanied by her husband, Parmeet Sethi, and their two sons, Aaryamann and Ayushmaan. Aaryamann recently started his own YouTube channel, where he posts daily vlogs. In his latest vlog, he introduced audiences to his girlfriend, actor Yogita Bihani. Aaryamann and his family experienced a setback on the first day of their Dubai trip, when they got scammed online while buying tickets for an indoor skydiving session. They made up for it with a house-hunting session, where they were shown around some of the most lavish apartment complexes that the city has to offer. Archana, Parmeet, and their two sons began the day with a tour of a luxury apartment complex that had 40 amenities on a single floor. They played some paddle, some basketball, and also some football. They took a tour of the gym and Archana even tried her (recently injured) hand at playing table tennis. The salesperson giving them the tour told them that every unit in that building had been sold out, and took them to another location. The new building had 106 floors, with a helipad. Archana joked, 'I'll have to buy that helicopter now finally.' Also read – Archana Puran Singh gets scammed for thousands of rupees during Dubai vacation, but son still wants his paneer tikka: 'Dubai mein paise doob gaye' While looking at the apartments, Archana was curious to know more about a private pool. The manager of the location told them that she could get romantic with Parmeet there, which made them both turn red. They then discussed the payment plans, and the manager told them that they could simply put the apartment up for rent, which would mean that it basically pays for itself. Parmeet asked to know the price, and pretended to stumble when he was told that it costs 5 million dirhams, which is around Rs 12 crore. Archana joked that she only has Rs 50 in her bag. They then discussed discounts and other financials, and praised the team for its hard work and professionalism. Upon returning to their hotel, Archana said that they haven't made a decision about which house they would want to buy, but had gathered all the information they could about houses at three different price points. Their fans were excited for this new chapter in their life, and one of them wrote, 'Aary and Ayush have both been raised so well. I've noticed how respectfully and calmly they let you speak and supported you without interrupting or commenting. You've clearly put a lot of effort into their upbringing, and it truly shows. I really hope I can raise my child with the same values, patience, and understanding.' Another viewer wrote, 'MashaAllah Allah aap sab ko hamesha kamyab kare aameen.'

India's aviation sector poised for long-term takeoff, says Jefferies; bets on IndiGo and GMR Airports
India's aviation sector is on the cusp of a multi-decade growth trajectory, supported by demographic tailwinds, infrastructure development, and rising consumer demand, Jefferies said in its latest report. Despite temporary hurdles such as safety incidents and supply chain constraints, the brokerage believes the broader structural story remains intact, driven by low air travel penetration and an expanding middle class. To play this, Jefferies continues to like IndiGo's domestic leadership plus the unfolding Int'l expansion and GMR Airports, which is a play on aviation growth, travel retail, land monetisation amid expected moderation on leverage. According to Jefferies, India has emerged as the third-largest aviation market globally by passenger volume, behind only the US and China. However, it still accounts for just 4 percent of global air traffic, even though it houses nearly 18 percent of the world's population. Jefferies highlighted that this disparity signals an underpenetrated market with significant headroom for growth. As per recent projections by IATA and Airbus, air traffic in India is expected to triple over the next two decades. Jefferies noted that the country's air connectivity is evolving steadily with the introduction of new routes and increased international services. Aggressive fleet expansion by domestic carriers and airport infrastructure investments will help drive industry-wide high single to low double-digit growth over the long term. While India's passenger volumes have grown significantly, Jefferies pointed out that it still lags far behind China's aviation infrastructure. China, with over 250 airports and more than 4,000 aircraft, services more than 700 million passengers annually, compared to India's 200 million passengers, 850 aircraft, and 150-160 operational airports. Jefferies emphasized that despite China having an extensive high-speed rail network that competes with domestic air travel, it still far outpaces India in aviation, underscoring the immense potential for India to catch up. Jefferies observed that international travel has become a key growth lever for Indian carriers. Post-Covid, Indian airlines have aggressively expanded international routes. Carriers like IndiGo and Air India are deploying wide-body aircraft and increasing their share of overseas operations. Jefferies noted that IndiGo's international capacity has surged to 30 percent of its overall capacity, up from low double-digits a decade ago, and is likely to reach 40 percent by 2030. This internationalisation is also driving airport revenues through higher travel retail spending, particularly at metro airports like Delhi and Mumbai. While the long-term opportunity remains attractive, Jefferies acknowledged that multiple challenges could act as temporary roadblocks. These include: Global aircraft shortages and supply chain disruptions, which could delay new aircraft deliveries to Indian airlines. High taxation on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), which inflates operational costs. Geopolitical issues, particularly related to airspace access, which have led to longer and more expensive flight routes. Weak domestic Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) infrastructure, increasing dependence on foreign facilities. Psychological spillovers from recent air safety concerns, which may impact passenger confidence in the short term. Despite these challenges, Jefferies believes these are short- to medium-term issues that will not derail the sector's long-term growth path. Among listed players, Jefferies reiterated its preference for InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo) and GMR Airports. It sees IndiGo as a value proxy for the broader consumption theme, benefiting from its dominant domestic market share and growing international presence. The brokerage highlighted IndiGo's forward valuation of ~12x FY26/FY27 EV/EBITDA as attractive, especially when paired with mid-teens earnings growth and a robust aircraft delivery pipeline. Meanwhile, Jefferies also sees GMR Airports as a strong long-term play on India's aviation ecosystem. The company is set to benefit from the growth in non-aero revenue streams, upcoming city-side land development projects, and favorable regulatory outcomes, including a recent win on aero tariffs at Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL). These developments enhance revenue visibility and cash flow generation for the airport operator, Jefferies noted. In conclusion, Jefferies said India's aviation sector is poised for multi-year expansion, riding on the back of favorable demographics, rising discretionary incomes, and expanding connectivity. While operational challenges remain, the long-term growth fundamentals are solid. Jefferies believes that leading players like IndiGo and GMR Airports offer attractive opportunities for investors looking to ride this secular growth story.
