Keon Coleman: Teams at Scouting Combine got mad at me for eating fruit snacks
It became obvious last year that Bills receiver Keon Coleman is hilariously authentic and self-aware. He recently provided another concrete example of that reality.
Appearing on the 7pm in Brooklyn podcast, Coleman reflected on his experience at last year's Scouting Combine.
It happened in the speed-dating interview sessions that unfold nightly in Indianapolis hotels. The teams bring players into the rooms. The rooms have bowls of snacks. Coleman helped himself to some. And some of the teams apparently didn't appreciate that.
'Teams mad I'm eating fruit snacks,' Coleman said, via Eva Geithheim of SI.com. 'I'm like, 'I'm hungry.' I'm listening. Can I grab a little fruit snacks every now and then? Y'all got all the snacks in here. That's just for show? . . . If you ain't gonna draft me over some fruit snacks. . . .'
It should be viewed as a positive. Coleman is comfortable in his own skin. Comfortable enough to see a bowl of fruit snacks and to help himself to a pack of them.
(Besides, it's not like he stole a box of raisins from an audition. And that guy definitely stole the raisins.)
The Combine experience definitely didn't stop Coleman from seeing a cookie and taking a cookie after his introductory press conference.
Coleman had a more substantive criticism of the Combine workouts. 'We got linemen out here running the 40 and vertical jumping, when they ever doing that?' Coleman said.
He's right. Football players only ever run 40 yards in a straight line when something very good or something very bad is happening during a game. A lineman's unimpeded, open-field speed only matters in very rare situations.
But teams keep putting them through the same paces. Because they always have. To keep making apples-to-apples comparisons, they need to keep plucking the same apples from the same trees. Even if the world has moved past apples and is now eating fruit snacks.

Josh Allen would "absolutely love" to play flag football in Olympics
The Olympic flag football tournament is three years away. But plenty of current players are talking about it. Most recently, Bills quarterback Josh Allen made it clear he'd be interested in pursuing gold for the United States. Many decisions will need to be made by USA Football regarding how the U.S. men's team will be selected. And, yes, current flag football players deserve an opportunity to compete. It's hard to imagine anyone competing with Josh Allen, if he's determined to go for gold.

Joey Bosa recovering from calf injury, expects to be ready for training camp
Buffalo Bills defensive end Joey Bosa is working his way back from a calf injury he suffered during a team workout in May. Bosa said he's being cautious in sitting out mandatory minicamp practice, but he believes he'll be full go by training camp in July, Ryan O'Halloran of The Buffalo News reported Wednesday. Advertisement The ex-Los Angeles Chargers sack artist did, however, work out in front of reporters in Orchard Park Wednesday, putting his recovery progress on display. Bosa turned a new page when he joined the Bills this spring, except he's still fighting the narrative that he can't stay healthy. The 29-year-old, who will turn 30 in July, hasn't played a full season since 2019. In the last three seasons alone, Bosa has missed 23 regular-season games. And, although he missed only three regular-season games in 2024, he recorded a mere 22 total tackles and just five sacks. His 39 pressures ranked tied for 46th among all EDGE players last season, according to Pro Football Focus. Advertisement The Chargers, who drafted Bosa No. 3 overall out of Ohio State in 2016, released the five-time Pro Bowler back in March. He then signed a one-year, $12.61 million contract with the Bills, with $12 million of that deal guaranteed. Buffalo is hoping Bosa can stay healthy and rediscover at least some of the success he enjoyed early in his career with the Chargers. Bosa stacked four double-digit sack seasons out west, including one as recent as 2021. Now he'll have a chance to play for an AFC contender that's been pounding on the door of the Super Bowl the last few years. Bosa was part of just one playoff win in his nine seasons with the Chargers. The Bills have made it to the AFC championship twice in the past five seasons. Buffalo released veteran pass rusher Von Miller this offseason and added Bosa. The Bills are betting on Bosa to supplement the efforts of younger defensive ends Greg Rousseau and AJ Epenesa.

Is Bills RB James Cook taking part in his team's minicamp?
The Buffalo Bills have their running back in town... for now. Pro Bowl rusher James Cook has not been in Orchard Park in recent weeks during his team's OTA spring practices. Those are voluntary and no player has to attend, but most do. Advertisement Because of a current contract discussions with the Bills, Cook did not show up to those. However, minicamp is going on this week and that's different. Players have to show up or fines are sent their way... and Cook is in the building. According to head coach Sean McDermott, Cook is present at Buffalo's minicamp practices this week and will practice: Cook has wanted a new deal and has the running back has been vocal about that throughout this offseason. It has not yet come, but there was always an expectation from the team that when Cook was required to be in Orchard Park, including for games, he would do so. Both McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane said that at times during the spring and that has happened.
