Tension in Saharanpur village after demolition of under-construction mosque
Bhojpur village under Chilkana police station limits in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur district remained tense on Friday (May 30, 2025), a day after an under-construction mosque built on private land was demolished by the administration, which cited the construction as illegal.
Delegations from various political parties, including the Congress, visited the area to appeal for peace. Local Lok Sabha MP Imran Masood, who led the Congress delegation, said the matter would be raised at appropriate forums.
'Religious Endowment Act doesn't mention that permission is needed to build a structure; it only requires intimation. Secondly, if the administration demolished the structure, where is the demolition order? No Supreme Court guideline was followed in this move,' Mr. Masood told The Hindu. He said the aggrieved parties would approach the Supreme Court and the High Court, citing violations of legal procedure.
Mr. Masood added that no one confronted the administration at the time of demolition to avoid escalation. 'We didn't want to give them (the administration) an excuse for using force; hence, people showed restraint. The fight will be in the court of law,' said the MP from Saharanpur.
According to the district administration, local police were informed about the construction a few days ago. The Station House Officer of Chilkana reportedly visited the site and halted the construction, citing lack of authorisation. Despite this, construction allegedly continued, leading to the demolition of the structure on May 29 under heavy police presence.
'We received directions from the local civil administration to provide force as some illegal structure was being constructed without proper permission. I am not privy to the exact nature of the structure. Our role was to maintain peace during the demolition. No untoward incident occurred,' Manoj Kumar Yadav, Circle Officer, Saharanpur Sadar, said.

Eleven people died and 56 were injured in the incident. Siddaramaiah had on Sunday denied reports that the Congress high command had sought information from him regarding the stampede incident. According to sources, the four names recommended to the Governor for nominations to the Legislative Council, but reportedly withheld after directions from the party high command, is also likely to come up for discussions.

Chandrahar Patil shifts from Thackeray to Shinde camp
MUMBAI: In a major embarrassment for Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, his Lok Sabha candidate from Sangli constituency, Chandrahar Patil, joined the Shiv Sena in the presence of deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde at Thane on Monday. Patil, a wrestler who had won the state championship Maharashtra Kesari, was fielded from the south-west Maharashtra constituency by Thackeray and Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut. The two had made Sangli a prestige issue even though Congress was unwilling to part with its traditional seat. Eventually, Congress rebel Vishal Patil won as an independent defeating sitting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sanjaykaka Patil, while Chandrahar Patil finished a poor third. After joining Sena, Patil claimed that the Opposition Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) had united to defeat him in Lok Sabha. 'I didn't step back. I got 60,000 votes from Sangli. It is not big figure in Lok Sabha polls where people get two to three lakh votes and win. But I got votes amidst bigwigs and leaders from political dynasties,' he said. Patil's induction ceremony was attended by minister Uday Samant, MLA Suhas Babar, the party's secretary Ram Repale, and actor-turned-politician Dipali Syed. Welcoming Patil into the party, Shinde said: 'Today, he has stepped out of a fake (akhada) arena and into the real one.'

KTR tears into BJP, Cong over ‘distorting facts' on KLIP
Hyderabad: The BRS Working President KT Rama Rao on Monday launched a blistering attack on the BJP and Congress, accusing them of jointly conspiring to malign BRS President K Chandrashekar Rao by distorting facts about the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. The BRS leader said, 'Both BJP and Congress are working with a single objective to irritate KCR garu. Their agenda is not governance but vendetta.' He clarified that the Kaleshwaram project was not the decision of an individual, but a unanimous policy decision taken by the Telangana Cabinet at that time. 'Even former ministers like Eatala Rajender and Harish Rao have reiterated that this was a government-approved, cabinet-sanctioned project. The implementation was carried out by the administration, not individuals. There is absolutely nothing to hide. Everything was done with utmost transparency,' he said. Rama Rao urged people to watch the detailed presentation made by senior BRS leader Harish Rao. 'If anyone watched Harish Rao's explanation, they would understand the project's depth and benefits. Harish explained it as clearly as peeling a banana. It was that simple and detailed,' KTR said. The BRS working president said, 'If a leader in another country had completed a project of this scale bringing irrigation to 45 lakh acres in just four years, they would have been immortalised in their national history. That leader would have been celebrated with global honours. Sadly, in our country, such a historic project has become a tool for political mudslinging,' he said. KTR denounced the issuance of notices by investigation bodies as politically motivated harassment. 'These notices are simply attempts to irritate and distract us.
