Operation Sindoor echoes in Rajasthan Assembly: Youth parliament's Home Minister slams cross-border terror, demands zero-tolerance policy
Firm stand against terror attacks
Bhattacharya questioned the notion that firm measures would destabilize peace, asking if peace had prevailed during the Pulwama attack where 40 CRPF personnel were killed, the Uri ambush on soldiers, or the Pathankot airbase strike. She argued that silence cannot be considered diplomacy and appeasement cannot be strategy.
'When terror is exported as state policy, the only answer is strength,' she said. She pointed to actions such as the surgical strikes, Balakot airstrikes, and the recent Operation Sindoor as examples of India's willingness to act decisively.

Security and intelligence measures
Highlighting improvements under the current government, Bhattacharya said border forces are now better equipped with drone surveillance, AI-backed fencing, night vision monitoring, and satellite tracking, which have significantly reduced infiltration.
She also outlined measures against terror financing, noting the role of agencies like the NIA and the Multi-Agency Center in real-time intelligence sharing. Hawala networks have been disrupted, and sleeper cells dismantled through coordinated action by the ED, NIA, and state forces.
A youth-led simulation of parliamentary proceedings in the Rajasthan Assembly on Monday saw a strong speech on cross border terrorism from 17-year-old Sonakshi Bhattacharya, a student, who was given the portfolio https://t.co/YmwRFwyFbU
Call for national unity
Bhattacharya reminded the House that every Indian government since independence has faced terrorism, but today's approach focuses on moving from response to deterrence. She urged unity beyond party lines, asking all political forces to stand firmly with the armed forces and institutions.
'The fight belongs to all Indians,' she said, warning against waiting for another attack to act. She ended by affirming that India must honor the 1994 resolution to end cross-border terrorism, stating, 'If someone asks for our religion before killing us, we will declare it before giving a befitting reply.'

Guv: Spike in discrimination, drugs, crime; DMK hits back
Chennai: A fresh bout of verbal sparring broke out between Raj Bhavan and DMK govt in TN, as Governor R N Ravi alleged state was grappling with "very serious challenges" including a spike in sexual offences and rising drug abuse, which drew a sharp rebuttal from the ruling party. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now On the eve of Independence Day, Ravi said about 60% of TN youth study in govt-run schools and are mostly from poor and marginalized sections. "The standards of teaching and learning are sharply declining in these schools," he said. Citing the ASER (annual status of education report), he said more than 50% of high school students cannot do simple maths or read primary standards textbooks. "Public education in TN is in steady decline," he said. Students are merely passing with certificates, and without job opportunities, he said. Alleging that social and educational discrimination was on the rise, Ravi said dalits are physically assaulted and at times even killed for their attempt to share the common public space. "It is a matter of collective shame that even after 78 years of Independence, rampant humiliating social discrimination practices are prevalent in our state," he said. Ravi said according to national crime records bureau, about 20,000 suicides are reported from TN every year, more than double the national average. The suicides reflect the prevailing acute social, psychological, or economic distress in the society, he said. Ravi alleged that drug abuse, especially among youth, was sharply increasing, particularly synthetic drugs. He also alleged that there was a sharp increase in the incidents of sexual offences, especially Pocso cases. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "According to official data, there has been more than 56% increase in Pocso rape cases in 2024,'' he said. Rejecting Ravi's charges, municipal administration minister K N Nehru said data released by Union govt shows TN was ahead in social and economic parameters. He said TN govt has responded to these charges with data in the past. "The governor is lying, frustrated over the boycott of his Independence day tea party by DMK allies," he said. Nehru also dismissed the statement that Centre has been supporting the development of TN by providing 'substantial funding', which included 3lakh crore as grants-in-aid. "The last Union budget had no mention of TN," he said. School education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said if Ravi was concerned about education of children in TN, he should urge Union govt to release pending funds for school education department.

No exchange of sweets on India, Pak border today
New Delhi No exchange of sweets on India, Pak border today Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel will not exchange sweets with Pakistan Rangers at the Indo-Pak border this Independence Day, a departure from a long-standing tradition, officials aware of the matter said. However, the customary exchange of sweets on the occasion will continue at the Indo-Bangladesh border outposts in the eastern sector. The decision not to exchange sweets this Independence Day has been taken against the backdrop of Pakistan-sponsored terror attack in Pahalgam and India's successful response - Operation Sindoor. During Operation Sindoor, Pakistan Rangers had provided cover fire to assist infiltrating terrorists. In one operation, at least 7 Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists, aided by Pakistan Rangers, were neutralised by BSF on the night of May 8 on the border in Samba district.
