Manchester City City vs Wydad (Philadelphia, 5pm BST)
The Club World Cup offers Manchester City a shot at redemption after a challenging 2024-25 season and Pep Guardiola's side could burst out of the blocks in their opener against the Moroccan side.
City have spent £116 million on classy midfielders Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki, as well as flying wing-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, this summer, and they can be expected to take this tournament seriously.
This is one of the bigger mismatches in the first round of group games with Wydad down in 383rd in the Opta World Power Rankings, having endured an underwhelming campaign of their own.
Rain is forecast in Philadelphia, so there is less chance of the heat stifling City, who are worth a bet to score over 1.5 goals in the first half at 21/20, having scored more first-half goals (41) than any other side in last term's Premier League.
Real Madrid vs Al-Hilal (Miami, 8pm BST)
There will be plenty of attacking quality on show in this game – from Kylian Mbappe to Aleksandar Mitrovic – but it is former Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic who is an appealing bet to have 2+ shots at 4/5.
Milinkovic-Savic could occupy a deeper role under new head coach Simone Inzaghi but he loves getting forward and having a crack at goal, having ranked 18th for shots in the Saudi Pro League last season with an average of 2.61 per game.
He also netted 12 goals and should have the chance to take aim given that Real Madrid allowed 10.7 shots per game in La Liga last season and will still be finding their feet under new boss Xabi Alonso.
Pachuca vs Salzburg (Cincinnati, 11pm BST)
Mexican side Pachuca could be up against it in Group H and they should be opposed in their opener against Red Bull Salzburg, who are 108 places above them in the Opta World Power Rankings.
Pachuca finished 16th in last season's Torneo Apertura in Liga MX, winning just three of 17 matches, before scrambling to finish eighth in the Torneo Clausura.
Head coach Jaime Lozano has been in charge for just a couple of weeks and they could be out of their depth against Salzburg, who finished the Austrian Bundesliga season with three wins in their last four games, so back them in the draw no bet market at 31/40.
Al Ain vs Juventus (Washington DC, 2am Thursday BST)
A Juventus win to nil looks a straightforward but value selection at 5/6 when the Turin giants take on Al Ain in their first match at the Club World Cup.
The fact Al Ain had three managers during the 2024-25 season, going from Hernan Crespo to Leonardo Jardim to Vladimir Ivic, tells you all you need to know about their recent struggles.
They finished a disappointing fifth in the UAE Pro League last term and it is hard to see them even laying a glove on Italian powerhouses Juventus, who placed fourth in Serie A last season, keeping 17 clean sheets in the process.

Jack Grealish can have City future after Club World Cup omission

Pep Guardiola has suggested Jack Grealish does have a future at Manchester City despite leaving him out of his squad for the Club World Cup. The City manager appeared to have opened the door for Grealish to leave the Etihad Stadium when he omitted him from the 27-man playing group for this summer's tournament in the United States. Advertisement That came after Grealish, a £100million signing from Aston Villa four years ago and one of the stars of the 2023 treble success, endured a difficult 2024-25 season, making just seven Premier League starts. Guardiola (left) gave Grealish (right) just seven Premier League starts last season (Mike Egerton/PA) Yet Guardiola, while offering no guarantees about the England international's prospects at City, says his absence is principally about allowing him to work on his game. Speaking at a press conference in Philadelphia ahead of City's tournament opener against Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca, Guardiola said: 'He had a conversation with the club and decided the best. 'Jack is an exceptional player but he didn't (play a lot). We decided he has to play. Advertisement 'We're honest and he's honest. We decided the best was to stay (behind) and find that he can play, that he can come back to the player of the year of the treble and all his career at Aston Villa. 'But the fact is he didn't play much minutes the last two seasons. He has to come back to play and have the butterflies in his stomach that he can play every three days and show again the quality that he has. 'We decided don't come here. What happens I don't know but if he doesn't (leave) he is a player for Man City and he will be back.' Guardiola denied this meant he felt Grealish had lost hunger for the game, but he needs reasons to start picking him again. Advertisement He said: 'The reason he didn't play is my decisions. Football is competing with each other – not just Jack, all of them. 'They compete (for) who deserves to play. The butterflies are an example of the tension and they happen for all the players. 'Over the last two years he didn't play much and I take responsibility for that, but he has to play and we reflected that it was better not to come here.' Another player not involved in the US is England right-back Kyle Walker, who spent the second half of last season on loan at AC Milan and appears set to leave the club. Advertisement The 35-year-old has been linked with Everton but Guardiola was unwilling to discuss the matter. He said: 'I don't have any news. It's the same case for Jack. About the links with other teams, you have to ask (director of football) Hugo (Viana).'

Bernardo Silva set to captain Manchester City after deciding to stay at Etihad

Bernardo Silva has confirmed he will stay at Manchester City for the coming season – and he looks set to wear the captain's armband. The Portugal midfielder is entering the final year of his contract and has been linked with a move this summer after eight seasons at the Etihad Stadium. Advertisement Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Hilal were reportedly among the clubs interested in the 30-year-old but he has decided to reject any overtures to remain with City. His reward could be an enhanced senior role, with manager Pep Guardiola revealing Silva will be one of his four-strong captaincy group for the 2025-26 campaign. Silva said: 'This season will for sure be with Man City. I'm going to stay. 'I've had options in the past and this year but, like last year, this year my option is to stay at Man City.' Advertisement Silva, speaking in Philadelphia ahead of City's opening match of the Club World Cup against Wydad Casablanca, would not say if it would be his final season in Manchester or not. He said: 'I know what I'm going to do but it's not the time to talk about that. I'm very focused on my season and performing well for Man City. When the time is due I will talk about it.' Guardiola has broken with his own protocols to name his group of on-field leaders himself this summer. Guardiola has chosen the captains himself this season (Adam Davy/PA) The Catalan has previously allowed the squad and backroom staff to vote for their own captains but, after an underwhelming past season, he has taken control of the situation himself. Advertisement Silva, Ruben Dias, Rodri and Erling Haaland were the four players named publicly by Guardiola on Tuesday. Silva received the most glowing report, suggesting that when fit and selected, it will be the former Monaco playmaker who leads out the team. 'I'm the manager and this season, for the first time in my career, I decided who is to be my captain,' said Guardiola. 'I didn't like what happened last season and I decided this season who represents the team. Sometimes I want to be the boss! Advertisement 'I think Bernardo had been an incredible figure for us. Eight years here, no injures, always in the bad moments he makes a step up, sets the example on the pitch. 'Ruben it is not necessary to say. He has been (the same as Silva), and Rodri at the same time.' Haaland has also been brought into the captaincy group (Martin Rickett/PA) Those three players all featured in the leadership group last season, along with Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne, but the elevation of 24-year-old Haaland is new. The prolific striker signed a 10-year contract in January and, after plundering 121 goals in 142 City appearances, is ready for the step up. Advertisement Guardiola said: 'He has to start to learn what does it mean to be a captain because he will be here, hopefully for many, many years. 'Sooner or later he will take that position as the first one. I took (the decision) because he's incredibly respected. He's an important figure for us.'
