All missiles from Pakistan intercepted, Pakistani drones fired at Jammu blocked: Defence sources
Jammu, May 8 (UNI) Panic gripped Jammu city late on Thursday evening when powerful explosions were heard from different parts of the city. Air raid sirens went off and there was a complete blackout when drones launched by Pakistan were seen as blinking red lights in the sky.
Defence sources here said that eight missiles from Pakistan were directed at Satwari, Samba, Ranbir Singh Pura and Arnia.
They said that all the missiles were intercepted and blocked by air defence units.
'Drones were sighted at multiple places along the western front – confirmed to be hostile, and are being effectively engaged by own air defence systems,' he informed.
Defence sources further said that Pakistani drones along the western border at various locations were also reported and added that they were effectively engaged by the Indian Armed Forces.
Sources denied the inputs with respect to suicide attack by terrorists in Pathankot or Rajouri, terming it completely false. They also said there was no movement of tanks on either side.
Meanwhile, after a nearly two-hour-long blackout, power supply was restored in Jammu city.
Amid the prevailing tense situation, authorities on Thursday announced that schools, colleges and universities will remain closed across Jammu and Kashmir on Friday and Saturday.

New Delhi [India], June 10 (ANI): BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who was part of a delegation led by senior party leader Baijayant Panda, took aim at Pakistan and stated that the country has suffered setbacks both on the battlefield and in the diplomatic front, implying that it has faced repeated defeats--not only in its military confrontations but also in its efforts to gather international support. 'Pakistan has lost on the battlefield and diplomatic front,' Dubey said, pointing to the country's diminishing support among traditionally close allies. Speaking to ANI about the all-party delegation visit, Nishikant Dubey said, 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government decided that seven all-party delegations would travel to key partner countries to convey India's message of zero tolerance against terrorism following the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. For the last couple of years, they have been released from the grey list, and now they are operating freely... US Military confirms deployment of 700 marines to Los Angeles amid protests
Los Angeles, June 10 (UNI) The US military has confirmed the deployment of 700 Marines to Los Angeles County amid protests against US President Donald Trump's immigration policies. "Approximately 700 Marines with 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division will seamlessly integrate with the Title 10 forces under Task Force 51 in the Los Angeles Area," the US Northern Command said in a statement. The unrest began on June 7 after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid in downtown Los Angeles, where a massive operation was conducted to identify undocumented immigrants. The clashes with protesters came amid reports of potential cuts to federal funding for the state. The following day, the White House announced that 2,000 National Guard troops would be deployed to the city. Los Angeles County officials later said they had not requested the National Guard and stressed that the decision to deploy it was made without consulting local officials.
