How to watch Fever at Wings: Caitlin Clark will miss showdown against Paige Bueckers
Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers, two of the WNBA's most promising young talents, were set to meet as professionals for the first time on Friday night when the Indiana Fever take on the Dallas Wings. Instead, Clark will miss her second straight game because of a left groin injury, the Fever announced.
The two shared the floor for a couple of high-stakes battles at the college level, including Clark's last Final Four appearance in 2024, but their first matchup as torchbearers for the next generation of WNBA superstars will have to wait. Even so, Friday night's game will be one to watch as Bueckers and a surging Wings team face off against other star-caliber players for the Fever.

The Wings enter at 4-12, but they appear to be trending in the right direction as winners in three of their last four. Bueckers leads the team in scoring and has showcased her all-around skill set, notching over 4.5 rebounds and assists per game while excelling on the defensive end of the floor. She's averaging nearly 21 points per game since June 11 and popped for a career-high 35 in a 13-point loss to the Phoenix Mercury on the same day.
Clark, who's averaging 18.2 points, 8.9 assists and five rebounds per game, will be sidelined for the seventh time this season. She sat out five games after suffering a left quadriceps strain on May 24, and then missed Indiana's home loss to the Los Angeles Sparks on Thursday night due to her most recent injury.

Her Fever are still finding their footing, bouncing around the .500 mark and retooling the roster on the fly, but the hallmarks of a title contender are there when everyone is healthy. Aliyah Boston (31 points) and Kelsey Mitchell (26) helped guide Indiana to a much-needed win over the Seattle Storm on Tuesday — a rare off night when Clark finished with more turnovers (eight) than points (six). Without Clark on the court, Mitchell led the Fever with 20 points against the Sparks.
Beyond Bueckers, Dallas also rosters three-time All-WNBA guard Arike Ogunbowale and All-Defensive guard DiJonai Carrington. The Wings are still in transition under the direction of first-year head coach Chris Koclanes, but they have a strong foundation and look poised to put their 1-11 start behind them.
Clark's absence will likely disappoint fans who bought up tickets to watch her duel with Bueckers. The Wings announced in March that Friday's contest would be moved from their regular venue to American Airlines Center — home of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, among others — due to increased demand. Fortunately for them, the Fever and Wings will play each other three more times, including another date in Texas on Aug. 1.

Indiana Fever Make Caitlin Clark Request After Recent Setback
Indiana Fever Make Caitlin Clark Request After Recent Setback originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever have, once again, fallen below .500 to begin the 2025 WNBA season, falling to the Los Angeles Sparks 85-75 on their home court. Advertisement Now, the Fever will cap off a back-to-back with a Friday night matchup against Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings. But the Fever could be without All-WNBA point guard Caitlin for a second straight game. Clark was ruled out for the Sparks game after suffering a groin injury late in Tuesday's win over the Seattle Storm. After playing every game in 2024, the former Iowa Hawkeyes star has now missed six games this season. Indiana is 2-4 in those contests. Yet, even with Clark out, the Fever remain supportive of her WNBA All-Star campaign. On Friday, the final day when All-Star fan voting counts twice, Indiana took to social media to request fans to go vote for Clark. Advertisement "almost as sweet as her stepback 🍪😏," the Fever wrote on X. "votes count DOUBLE today, send Caitlin Clark to #WNBAAllStar2025" Clark initially missed five games earlier in the year due to a quad strain. Upon her return on June 14, she went through a three-game stretch of poor shooting, going 1-of-23 (4.3%) from 3-point range before suffering her new setback. Still, Clark has remained one of the top WNBA players over the entire season. Through nine games played, she is averaging 18.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 8.9 assists per game. She is tied for the most assists per game in the WNBA with Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas Indiana Fever guard Caitlin ClarkGrace Smith/INDIANAPOLIS STAR-Imagn Images The Fever will face the Wings on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET. At the time of this article, it is unclear whether Clark will be able to play. Advertisement The final day for WNBA All-Star voting is on Saturday. Dream's Brittney Griner Makes Unexpected Personal Move
Dream's Brittney Griner Makes Unexpected Personal Move originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream have opened the 2025 WNBA season atop the Eastern Conference standings, sitting in second place with a 10-5 record. Advertisement While the Dream have found success this season, Griner has taken a step back in her first year with the team, allowing star teammates like Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard to lead the way. The 6-foot-9 center is averaging 9.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game through 13 games - career lows in her 11-year WNBA tenure. Even so, Griner appears content in her new role and continues to engage with fans, including Australian gold medalist skateboarder Arisa Trew. Atlanta Dream center Brittney GrinerDale Zanine-Imagn Images On Friday, the X Games' official Instagram account posted a video of Griner swapping jerseys with the skateboarder, a move that's more commonly seen between basketball players. Advertisement Griner even signed the jersey with a personal message for Trew. "Wow, this is so cool," Trew said as she received the signed Griner jersey. "Thank you so much, Brittney. This is so cool." Trew, from Cairns, Queensland, Australia, is only 15 years old and has already earned nine gold medals in international competition, including the 2024 Paris Olympics (1 gold medal), the World Championships in Rome (1) and three different X Games events (7). That total includes her most recent win at last weekend's X Games in Osaka. She also became the youngest-ever from her country to win an Olympic gold medal. Advertisement "Who said jersey swaps need to be in the same sport?" the X Games captioned its post. "Brittney Griner is a huge fan of @arisa_trew and sent her a signed jersey. So naturally, we made Arisa a #XGames jersey to send back 🏀🛹" Griner and the Dream look to avoid a two-game losing streak as they begin a four-game homestand with a matchup against Napheesa Collier and the WNBA-leading Minnesota Lynx. Indiana Fever Make Direct Request Before Wings Game
Indiana Fever Make Direct Request Before Wings Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever enter their matchup against the Dallas Wings on Friday with a 7-8 record, sitting fourth in the Eastern Conference and just outside of the playoff picture. Advertisement After an encouraging 5-3 stretch in June, the team has been hampered by inconsistent finishes and key injuries, notably dropping three of their last four contests despite holding double-digit leads late in games. Amid these on-court challenges, the Fever made headlines off the court by taking to X on Friday to urge fans to cast their ballots on the final double voting day of the WNBA All-Star fan poll. The team spotlighted five players: Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell, Lexie Hull and Natasha Howard, encouraging supporters to rally behind their stars. This push comes as the Fever prepare to host the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on July 19. Indiana's fortunes this season have been closely tied to the availability of Clark, who, selected first overall in the 2024 WNBA draft, has quickly become the face of the franchise. Advertisement This season, she's averaging 18.2 points, 8.9 assists, 5 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game, shooting 39.0% from the field and 29.5% from 3-point range in nine games. Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Peltier-Imagn Images However, a left quadriceps strain sidelined her for five games, and after a brief return, Clark will now be out of the Wings game and potentially longer, with her status being described as "day-to-day." With the Dallas game setting the tone for a critical stretch of the schedule, Indiana will aim to reignite their season and keep playoff aspirations alive without its star player.
