KL JPJ raises RM237,000 from public auction of 124 seized vehicles
Its director Hamidi Adam said of the 124 vehicles auctioned, 108 were roadworthy, 16 were unroadworthy (scrap), and six were cloned vehicles.
'We successfully auctioned off all the listed vehicles, with the highest bid received being RM27,000 for a Mitsubishi Canter tipper truck, while the lowest bid was just RM200 for a scrap Modenas motorcycle,' he told reporters after the auction session here today.
He said the vehicles had been seized through various JPJ enforcement operations involving offences including not having road tax and insurance.
'If the owners fail to claim the seized vehicles within three months, we will bring the case to court to initiate forfeiture proceedings before the vehicles are auctioned off,' he added.
Elaborating further, Hamidi said this type of auction is held twice a year, and the response this time was considered encouraging even though only 85 bidders participated, less than the target of 100.
An additional RM8,500 was collected from the sale of RM100 booklets required for all attending bidders, bringing the total revenue to RM245,500.
He did not rule out the possibility of capping the number of participants in future auctions due to space constraints but said efforts are underway to secure a larger venue to provide greater comfort for both bidders and staff.
'At present, our public auctions are conducted manually but, in the future, we are planning to introduce an online bidding system under the supervision of the JPJ headquarters,' he said.

SIBU (Aug 21): A long-standing parking issue at Rumah Joseph Jarrau in Tanjung Bekakap is set to be resolved with the construction of a new 100-metre-long parking facility, scheduled to begin next week. The RM93,000 project, funded under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) special allocation for the Bawang Assan state constituency, is expected to be completed within three months. According to Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch chairman Councillor Kevin Lau Kor Jie, the project was initiated following a complaint lodged by Tuai Rumah Joseph to Councillor Johnny Ganning several months ago. The matter was subsequently brought to the attention of the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC). 'I have visited the site several times, and I'm pleased the project is now officially set to begin,' Lau said during the handover ceremony to the appointed contractor, Ismawi Enterprise, on Tuesday. Lau, who is SRDC Standing Committee chairman, said the parking facility will benefit not only the longhouse residents but also churchgoers in the area, particularly on weekends and during festive seasons. Expressing his gratitude, Tuai Rumah Joseph thanked all parties involved for approving the much-needed project. 'This facility will ease the parking situation for both residents and visitors, particularly during major events,' he said. RENTING a home is becoming increasingly difficult for many Malaysians, particularly in high-demand states like Johor. A recent Threads post by a concerned woman has sparked heated discussions online after she highlighted a steep rental rate for a basic housing unit in the state. 'Living in Johor is getting harder with rental rates that do not make any sense,' she wrote in her post. A screenshot of a Facebook post attached to her post showed a bare, unfurnished single-storey unit allegedly being rented out for a staggering RM1,000. She claimed that the unit was located in the city centre, hence the exorbitant rental rate. In the comments section of the screenshot, one user suggested that the landlord could be targeting Malaysians working in Singapore — perhaps those not earning high salaries — but pointed out that even for that demographic, the rent was not considered affordable.
