The annual Kiaat Private Hospital CANSA Golf day was hosted on June 4 at Mbombela Golf Club.
Sisters from Kiaat Private Hospital were at the registration area to test the players' blood pressure and sugar levels.
'The day was a big success because of companies that sponsored the event and tees, and entered four-balls. Thank you to each one that took part, as well to those companies that sponsored the pop-a-balloon, raffle prizes and prizes for the winning golfers. Our MC Michelle Buys ended the day on a great note, raising more funds for us with an auction,' said Rinella Jansen van Vuuren, CANSA Lowveld's sustainability co-ordinator.

Anton Botha entertained everyone while they enjoyed something to eat. 'The CANSA committee really worked hard to make this day a success.'
Around R100 000 was raised and these funds will help with the following:
• Individual and telephone counselling services
• CANSA clinic days and early detection programmes
• Cancer research funding programmes
• Medical equipment and prosthetic supplies
• Wig clinics and services
• Stoma support
• CANSA care homes, centres and Tough Living with Cancer lodges
• Support groups and online resources.
The betterball Stableford was won by Eric Sithole and Macdonald Lelaka with 50 points.

No hot water for patients in Pretoria hospitals amid icy winter conditions Sick and vulnerable patients at three major Pretoria hospitals are being forced to endure freezing winter conditions without hot water as critical equipment failures and years of poor maintenance leave facilities struggling to meet basic care standards. According to the DA's Shadow Health MEC, Jack Bloom, this was confirmed by Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko in a written reply to his questions in the Gauteng Legislature. 'Reasons for a lack of hot water include leaking steam pipes and broken boilers, compressors, and heat tanks.' He said the department says: 'The critical equipment such as boilers, chillers, heat pump, air conditioners etc. are old and were not serviced appropriately for a long time. The impact is that due to their heavy usage in winter, the department experiences a lot of breakdowns.' 'Patients in nine Gauteng public hospitals have suffered without hot water as the winter cold has bitten since the start of May this year.' • Bertha Gxowa Hospital, • Cullinan Care and Rehab, • Sterkfontein Hospital, • Edenvale Hospital, • Lenasia Hospital, • Kalafong Hospital, • Weskoppies Hospital, • Jubilee Hospital, • Tshwane Rehabilitation Care Hospital. 'I suspect they are underplaying the hot water problem as I have received complaints from patients at several other hospitals. 'It is inexcusable that sick people have to wash in cold water in winter. The department says R100 million is set aside to recapitalise hospital equipment. This is a long overdue investment, but needs to be spent properly, unlike failed projects in the past,' Bloom said. The Gauteng Department of Health has yet to confirm or respond to media inquiries. New clinic launched for taxi drivers in Orange Farm
NPO Rhiza Babuyile and the Gauteng health department have launched a new healthcare facility, Mpathy Clinic, in Orange Farm, Johannesburg, tackling health issues affecting taxi drivers. The clinic was launched in partnership with the Orange Farm United Taxi Association (Ofuta). Rhiza healthcare manager Lerato Seheri said the initiative was influenced by the difficulty taxi drivers face in going to clinics due to their tight schedules. 'Taxi drivers avoid going to a clinic because their working conditions don't allow them the time to wait in long queues,' Seheri said. 'With this new service, they'll get treatment fast. Quick in and out, no long lines. It's a quality service built around their reality. The clinic is tailor-made to suit their busy schedules and their pockets. It meets them where they are and provides them with care without disrupting their day.' The consultation fee will be between R100 and R300. Seheri said the initiative aligns with the government's 'Closing the Gap' Art Campaign, which aims to initiate and retain 1.1-million people on antiretroviral therapy (Art) by December to achieve the 95-95-95 HIV targets. Beyond HIV, she said the clinic would deal with general health issues affecting men. 'There's a broader challenge — men's health in general and how we link men to healthcare services effectively. Men are far less likely than women to engage routine health services and that gap often leads to late diagnoses of preventable or manageable conditions. With this clinic, we're addressing this gap.' HIV, Aids, sexually transmitted infections and TB (Hast) programme manager, Mmakobo Gaegake, shared Seheri's sentiments, emphasising the need for a healthcare facility for taxi drivers. 'The launch of the clinic in the taxi rank will assist in bringing health services to the busiest point in Orange Farm. Taxi drivers will work, access health services and continue with their day-to-day life. The clinic will promote healthy living in disadvantaged communities.' Ofuta welcomed the initiative. 'We're happy to see this clinic open. It's something our drivers have needed for a long time. They work long hours, always on the move, and often don't get the chance to look after their health. Rhiza Babuyile and the department of health heard and saw us and they delivered. This helps not just taxi drivers but everyone who counts on us to keep moving,' said the association's spokesperson Monty Motsopa.
