Nitte Institute of Architecture (NIA): Nurturing tomorrow's sustainable architects

SMPL
New Delhi [India], May 3: In an era where cities are expanding rapidly and environmental consciousness is paramount, architecture has assumed a new significance--one that blends aesthetics, function, and responsibility. At the forefront of this evolution is the Nitte Institute of Architecture (NIA), located in the coastal city of Mangaluru, Karnataka. As a constituent college of Nitte (Deemed to be University), NIA is redefining architectural education by focusing not just on structures, but on shaping the minds that will design a sustainable tomorrow.
Established in 2015, NIA has swiftly grown into a centre of excellence for architectural education. It offers a comprehensive 5-year Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) programme, recognised by the Council of Architecture (COA), India. This degree marks the first step towards a professional career in architecture and equips students with the technical know-how, creative thinking, and ethical grounding needed to excel in today's competitive and ever-evolving industry.
Nitte University, ranked 66th in the NIRF 2024 by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and accredited with an A+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), is known for its global perspective. With a strong portfolio of international academic collaborations and student exchange initiatives, the University provides its students with a broad and inclusive worldview.
At NIA, the curriculum is carefully crafted to foster curiosity, experimentation, and critical thinking. Students at NIA are encouraged to think beyond conventional boundaries, exploring design as a tool for solving real-world problems.
Here's what makes NIA distinctive:
1.Engaging teaching methodology to design with purpose

Learning goes beyond the studios of architecture--our diverse extracurricular programmes, including Summer/Winter Schools, the Masterclass Series, and arts and crafts courses, provide endless opportunities for skill enhancement and personal growth.
Furthermore, say goodbye to exam stress. At NIA, we prioritise practical skills and creative thinking over traditional written examinations, allowing you to showcase your architectural talents with confidence and clarity.
2.Curriculum with Choice
NIA's flexible, choice-based curriculum allows students to chart their own academic paths. By selecting elective courses that align with their interests--be it urban design, conservation, or digital fabrication--students can personalise their learning journey.
3.State-of-the-art facilities for hands-on learning
NIA's technologically advanced facilities, including well-equipped workshops, fabrication labs, 3D printing facilities, and an integrated digital and building science lab, ensure that you will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on projects, prototyping activities, and real-world design challenges from day one.
4.Learn from renowned industry experts across the globe
Join a community of diverse minds and learn from experts around the world. With a remarkable 1:10 faculty-student ratio, NIA offers a close-knit learning environment where students benefit from the rich academic and practical experience of renowned experts.
5.Entrepreneurial outlook
In a profession that rewards initiatives, NIA integrates entrepreneurial training into its pedagogy. From idea incubation to execution, students are mentored to launch design practices and social ventures, preparing them for leadership roles in the creative economy.
Architecture today offers a myriad of career avenues--from urban planning, interior and landscape design to emerging areas like digital modelling, sustainability consulting, and even graphic and product design. With opportunities for internships and choice-based learning, NIA prepares students to confidently navigate this dynamic professional landscape, nurturing not just architects, but thinkers and changemakers.
In alignment with its mission of creating a humane and equitable society, Nitte University supports deserving students through merit-based and excellence scholarships. These are awarded based on Class 12/Diploma and NATA performance, ensuring that talent and passion find a way.

Two Miyawaki forests launched

Mangaluru: World Environment Day saw the launch of two Miyawaki Forests—one by Nitte (Deemed to be University) and another by the Young Indians (Yi) Mangaluru chapter, on Thursday. Nitte (Deemed to be University) launched the Nitte Miyawaki Forest. Pratap Lingaiah, state NSS officer, youth empowerment and sports department, govt of Karnataka, inaugurated it by unveiling the plaque and planting a sapling. The Miyawaki method, developed by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, is a proven technique for creating dense, fast-growing native forests using only indigenous plant species. It involves high-density, multi-layered planting that mimics natural forest ecosystems, resulting in rapid growth and self-sustainability within 2-3 years. Native species such as neem, benga, kadamba, mango, golden shower, Ashoka tree, Indian blackberry, kokum, monkey jack, surahonne, jackfruit, red sandalwood, and cinnamon were planted in a 6,534 sqft dedicated to developing the Nitte Miyawaki Forest. These activities are part of the ongoing mission of Nitte to promote green initiatives. Yi Mangaluru chapter achieved a green milestone with the launch of a Miyawaki forest at NorthernSky Greenfield Meadows, Surathkal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo Spearheaded by the chapter's climate change vertical, this initiative stands as an example of youth-driven environmental stewardship and community-led climate resilience. The land measuring 1,900sqm for the Miyawaki forest was provided by NorthernSky properties, while the saplings were procured from the Karnataka forest department, reinforcing public-private collaboration in environmental restoration. The event was graced by Anthony Mariappa, deputy conservator of forests, Mangaluru division. M Athmika Amin, immediate past chair of Yi Mangaluru and regional mentor for the climate change vertical SRTKKA, addressed the gathering and emphasised the importance of the Miyawaki method. She reaffirmed Yi's commitment to launching many more such urban forestry projects in the near future. Addressing the gathering, Mariappa highlighted the pressing need for civil society to support afforestation efforts. With growing urban development leading to tree loss, particularly from road widening and infrastructure projects, community-led plantation drives are crucial to restoring ecological balance. He also emphasised the role of urban forests in mitigating climate change impacts. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Eid wishes , messages , and quotes !

Kanhaiya Lal murder: Gehlot slams BJP, NIA over delay in justice

1 2 Jaipur: Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot has accused the BJP of politicising the Kanhaiya Lal murder case of Udaipur while failing to ensure swift justice through the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Udaipur, was hacked to death allegedly by Mohammad Riyaz Attari and Ghouse Mohammed at his shop on June 28, 2022. Taking to X on Wednesday, Gehlot wrote that three years have passed since the tragic murder in Udaipur, yet the case remains pending in the NIA Court in Jaipur. "The Rajasthan police demonstrated remarkable efficiency by apprehending the criminals within four hours of the crime. However, the NIA took over the case the same night, and since then, progress has been disappointingly slow," Gehlot said. Gehlot emphasised that Kanhaiya Lal's family stated that the case was not being fast-tracked. The former CM pointed out several procedural delays in the trial, including the transfer of the CBI Court judge who held additional charge of the NIA Court, resulting in no hearings for the past six months. Addressing the support provided to the victim's family, Gehlot clarified that the previous state govt under Congress had given Rs 50 lakh in compensation and secured govt jobs for both sons of Kanhaiya Lal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mistura chinesa faz cabelo crescer e homem fica irreconhecível Resultados em 30 dias Undo He accused the BJP of spreading misinformation by claiming only Rs 5 lakh was provided to the victim family. The BJP's approach suggests they're more interested in political mileage than justice," Gehlot wrote.
