John Wall, 5-time All-Star, retires after 11 NBA seasons
Wall, 34, played most of his career with the Washington Wizards after they made him the first overall pick in the 2010 draft out of Kentucky. The five-time All-Star point guard finishes his NBA career with averages of 18.7 points and 8.9 assists per game.
"Today, I'm stepping off of the court, but not away from the game," Wall said in a social media post on Tuesday. "Basketball will always be in my life, and new opportunities present themselves. I feel now is the time to walk confidently into my next chapter."
Wall played most of his career with the Washington Wizards, but also played for the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers. In his best season, he averaged 23.1 points and 10.7 assists for the Wizards in 2016-17 and was named All-NBA third team.
Wall was one of the fastest, most athletic point guards during his prime — he was the 2014 Slam Dunk champion. He was an elite defender, making the All-Defensive second team in 2015.
Injuries plagued the second half of his career. He never played more than half the games in any of the past six seasons and he didn't play the last two years.

Toronto, first in the AL East, dropped two of three to Pittsburgh, last in the NL Central. Tommy Pham then plated a pair with a double in the bottom half. Bryan Reynolds hit a two-out double, Spencer Horwitz walked and Pham brought them in with a liner just inside the left-field line. Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt (11-7) was tagged for two runs and six hits, tying a season-high with 10 strikeouts and walking two in 5 2/3 innings. The next time someone wants to talk about a soft spot in the Blue Jays schedule, hit mute. Article content And if you don't, expect Toronto manager John Schneider to do it for you. Article content Article content What was anticipated (by some) to be a midweek walkover against the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates turned into a meek effort by the visiting Jays, who dropped two of three to the NL Central basement dwellers in a series they best forget quickly. Article content An indifferent afternoon Wednesday at PNC Park, one that resulted in a 2-1 loss, finished it off for the Jays. At least they are still comfortably atop the AL East standings, but it sure felt like they squandered an opportunity to enhance that status. Article content To add a little dig to the proceedings, the main damage was done by the Pirates' Tommy Pham, who did his talking at the plate rather than chirping on the diamond and social media. But they have to be at least an irritating development for a team that can smell the opportunity it has created for itself by having so much success against better teams. Of course, if he isn't used that also means he could slip back into the rotation as soon as the next time through if needed. Article content The eyebrow-raiser would be that Jose Berrios, struggling of late, is back in for Saturday. But the Jays and Schneider have such respect for the professionalism of Berrios that they likely believe he's earned the right to work his way out of those struggles. For now, anyway.

'Woke' Minnesota Vikings face backlash after male cheerleaders join squad
The Minnesota Vikings have been slammed for adding two male cheerleaders to its team of sideline supporters. Article content The addition of Blaize Shiek and Louie Conn have prompted some on social media to say they will no longer support the NFL team, while others have gone so far as to hit the two men with homophobic and hateful comments. Article content Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville, a former college football coach, said he believes the optics will affect the league's masculine image. Article content 'I would like to ask the ownership of the NFL and the commissioner, 'What the hell are you doing?'' the Alabama senator told Outkick's Hot Mic with Hutton & Withrow. Article content 'If you're going to be woke, and if you're going to try to take the men out of men's sports, which is what they're doing, they're trying to take gender and try and make it more about gender than about masculinity, then you're going to have a huge problem.'
