
Superman 2025: The film 'Israel', US do not want you to see
By setting Superman's latest battle in the fictional nations of Boravia and Jarhanpur, the film delivers an unmistakable critique of imperialism, propaganda, and the weaponization of public perception to justify war crimes, with Boravia standing in for the Israeli Occupation and Jarhanpur as Palestine. And for once, a Hollywood blockbuster has the guts to say it, even if through allegory.
The story centers on Superman (David Corenswet) intervening to halt Boravia's invasion of Jarhanpur, a smaller, less militarily equipped nation populated by non-white inhabitants. Boravia, a US ally, is backed by billionaire Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) and General Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), who question Superman's motives and frame him as a dangerous alien threat.
- The disinformation machine -
Superman's intervention is not celebrated; it is vilified. Luthor orchestrates an elaborate smear campaign, deploying monkeys as online trolls to flood social media with disinformation portraying Superman as violent, dangerous, and untrustworthy.
This is Hasbara by another name: 'Israel's' well-documented propaganda network, which tirelessly reframes Palestinian resistance as terrorism and paints anyone who supports Gaza as an extremist to justify military action and ethnic cleansing. Superman's defense of Jarhanpur is spun as aggression simply because it threatens US interests, exactly how pro-Palestine voices are silenced in the real world with accusations of anti-Semitism.
Additionally, the film takes a jab at Western media during a scene where Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) interviews Superman, echoing American mainstream media by asking him accusatory questions and framing him as a villain for attacking a US ally. Superman explains he simply acted to protect Jarhanpur's defenseless civilians.
This is Western media in a nutshell, where saying 'Palestinians deserve to live' can get you labeled anti-Semitic, and condemning genocide is treated as supporting terrorism.
- Pinkwashing and orientalist tropes -
The film also tackles pinkwashing and orientalism head-on. Boravian president Vasil Ghurkos (Zlatko Burić) accuses Superman of maintaining a 'harem' of Boravian women, a baseless claim steeped in orientalist tropes that paint non-white cultures as primitive and misogynistic. The choice of the word 'harem' is not accidental. It evokes Orientalist tropes used for centuries to paint Arabs as backward and hypersexual.
This mirrors 'Israel's' narrative following October 7, 2023, when it falsely accused Hamas of rape and kidnapping, allegations that many critics say were used as pinkwashing to justify the mass killing of Palestinians under the guise of defending women's rights.
- Is Lex Luthor a stand-in for Donald Trump? -
Luthor's rhetoric, calling Superman an 'alien' with malevolent intent, doubles as a critique of xenophobic narratives used to justify wars and occupations, from US immigration policies to 'Israel's' dehumanization of Palestinians.
Hoult's Luthor, with his brash, self-aggrandizing demeanor, is an unsubtle stand-in for Donald Trump, particularly in his envy-driven quest for greatness. Luthor's obsession with outshining historical figures like Galileo parallels Trump's documented jealousy of Barack Obama's Nobel Peace Prize and his own pursuit of global acclaim, even at the cost of chaos.
Trump, on multiple occasions, belittled former US President Barack Obama's Nobel Prize win.
'When Barack Hussein Obama got nominated, he didn't know why he was nominated,' he said on one occasion. 'It was like right at the very beginning. He didn't do anything. He did nothing. And he got nominated."
During another event, he stated, 'Can you believe it? [Obama] won the Nobel Peace Prize. They probably will never give it to me, even what I'm doing in Korea, and in Idlib Province and all of these places. They probably will never give it to me. You know why? Because they don't want to.'
He has frequently argued that his own efforts were far more deserving.

The film spares no punches in exposing America's role in the Gaza genocide. By the final act, it is revealed that the US has been funding Boravia, supplying weapons, and actively encouraging its territorial expansion into Jarhanpur.
Boravia's military is built on US funding and weaponry, an unmistakable parallel to the billions Washington pours into 'Israel's' arsenal to attack Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, Syria, and Iran.

Luthor's schemes also resonate deeply with 'Israel's' real-world tactics.
In one sequence, he triggers a catastrophic black hole threat, forcing Superman to divert his attention, while Boravia quietly escalates its invasion of Jarhanpur. This strategy, creating global distractions to bury atrocities, mirrors 'Israel's' pattern of escalating attacks on Gaza during major world events like the Oscars, Met Gala, or when launching strikes in Lebanon, Syria, and Iran to push Gaza out of the news cycle
- Superman reimagined -
Superman has long stood as a symbol of American nationalism, a near-mythical figure embodying the ideals of truth, justice, and the so-called 'American way.'
Traditionally, he has been portrayed as a defender of US interests, a superhero who reinforces the narrative of America as a global force for good. However, this new interpretation of Superman turns that legacy on its head, directly challenging the myth of American moral superiority. Instead of blindly serving US interests, he defies them, siding with the oppressed against a US-backed aggressor.
Superman (2025) is not for those who want escapist fantasy. It is for anyone willing to face the truth: justice is not comfortable, and standing with the oppressed means making enemies among the powerful.

Ammon News - A poll released Tuesday, July 29, by IMEU Policy Project and conducted by Data for Progress found that not only did the vast majority of voters in New York City's Democratic primary for mayor agree with Zohran Mamdani's platform supporting Palestinian rights, including his recognition that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, but that his pro-Palestinian platform may have also activated new voters and can serve as a blueprint for the Democratic Party going forward. The survey of 513 Democratic primary voters was conducted from July 11-17 - before images of Israel's forced starvation in Gaza made major headlines. New York City primary voters were strongly pro-Palestinian and highly critical of Israel. -78% say Israel is committing genocide in Gaza -79% support restricting weapons to Israel -63% support arresting Netanyahu if he visits New York City As national polls have shown support for Israel cratering in the Democratic Party nationally — a June 2025 Quinnipiac poll found 60% of Democrats say they sympathize more with Palestinians, compared to 12% for Israel - the same trend has proven to be true among New York City Democratic primary voters. These voters strongly sympathize with Palestinians over Israel (66% vs 16%) and want to see US support for Israel reduced. Just 5% of voters said 'increasing or maintaining US support for Israel' was a factor in their vote. In contrast, 21% of all voters named 'reducing US support for Israel' as a factor. As the Democratic Party looks for its future leaders in 2028 and beyond, these voters overwhelmingly prefer politicians who have taken a stand for restricting weapons to Israel, like Sen. Bernie Sanders (+62-point net favorability) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (+60). New York Members of Congress who have supported providing taxpayer-funded weapons to Israel rank considerably lower, including Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (+27), Sen. Chuck Schumer (+7), and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (+3). AIPAC (-35) and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (-64) are deeply unpopular with these voters. Mamdani voters were also asked what issues affected their decision to vote for him, and the top responses they cite are 'his plans to lower costs' (89%) and 'his plans to tax the wealthy and stand up to corporations' (86%). Notably, the third-most motivating reason for Mamdani voters is 'his support for Palestinian rights' (62%). The poll also included an oversample of New York's 10th Congressional district, represented by Rep. Dan Goldman, a Member of Congress funded by AIPAC who has repeatedly voted with Republicans to advance anti-Palestinian legislation. Goldman is deeply unpopular with his voters. 21% of his constituents say they expect to vote for him again, while 44% say they plan to vote for another Democrat in the June 2026 primary.

Israel military intercepts Huthi missile fired from Yemen
OCCUPIED JERUSALEM — Sirens sounded in several Israeli cities, including Jerusalem, on Tuesday as the military said it intercepted a missile launched from Yemen, with Huthi rebels later claiming the attack. "Following the sirens that sounded a short while ago in several areas in Israel, a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted by the Israeli air force", the military said in a statement. The Huthis later claimed the attack, saying they had fired a missile at Ben Gurion airport near Tel Aviv. Yemen's Iran-backed Huthi rebels have launched repeated missile and drone attacks against Israel since their Palestinian ally Hamas's October 2023 attack on Israel sparked the Gaza war. The Huthis, who say they are acting in solidarity with Palestinians, paused their attacks during a two-month ceasefire in Gaza that ended in March, but renewed them after Israel resumed major operations. Israel has carried out several retaliatory strikes in Yemen, targeting Huthi-held ports and the airport in the rebel-held capital Sanaa.

Critical mass achieved: Why the world can no longer ignore Palestine
I rarely visit Rome without stopping at the Campo de' Fiori to pay homage to Giordano Bruno, an Italian philosopher who, in 1600, was brutally burned at the stake by the Roman Inquisition. His crime was daring to challenge entrenched dogmas and to think freely about God and the infinite nature of the universe. As I stood beneath his imposing statue, a strange ruckus suddenly erupted, growing louder as a sizable group of protesters drew closer. Dozens of people of all ages banged on pots and pans with fervent urgency. Following the initial shock and subsequent confusion, it became clear that the protest was an urgent attempt to awaken people to the horrific famine unfolding in Gaza. In no time, more people spontaneously joined in, some clapping, having arrived unprepared with their own tools for protest. Waiters from the square's osterie instinctively began to bang their hands on anything that could generate sound, adding to the growing clamor. The square stood momentarily still, pulsating with the collective noise before the protesters marched on to another square, their numbers visibly swelling with each step. In the bustling streets of Rome, Palestinian flags were conspicuously the only foreign flags to occupy public spaces. They hung from light poles, were glued onto street signs or flew proudly atop balconies. No other country, no other conflict, no other cause has permeated public spaces as profoundly as that of Palestine. Though this phenomenon is not entirely new, the ongoing Israeli war and genocide in Gaza has undeniably amplified this solidarity, pushing it fiercely beyond the traditional confines of class, ideology and political lines. Yet, no other space in Italy can truly be compared to Naples. Palestinian symbols are everywhere, permeating the city's fabric as if Palestine is the paramount political concern for the entire region's populace. What was particularly fascinating about the solidarity with Palestinians in this vibrant city was not merely the sheer volume of graffiti, posters and flags, but the very specific references made to Palestinian martyrs, prisoners and movements. Pictures of Walid Daqqa, Shireen Abu Akleh and Khader Adnan, alongside precise demands tailored to what would have been considered, outside of Palestine, largely unfamiliar specifics to a global audience, were prominently displayed. How did Naples become so intricately attuned to the Palestinian discourse to this extent? This vital question resonates far beyond Italy, applying to numerous cities across the world. Notably, this major shift in the deeper understanding of the Palestinian struggle and the widespread embrace of the Palestinian people is unfolding, despite the pervasive and unrelenting media bias in favor of Israel and the persistent intimidation by Western governments of pro-Palestinian activists. In politics, critical mass is achieved when an idea, initially championed by a minority group, decisively transforms into a mainstream issue. This crucial shift allows it to overcome tokenism and begins to exert real and tangible influence in the public sphere. In many societies around the world, the Palestinian cause has already attained that critical mass. In others, where government crackdowns still stifle the debate at its very roots, organic growth nevertheless continues, thus promising an inevitable and fundamental change as well. And this is precisely the haunting fear of numerous Israelis, especially within their political and intellectual classes. Writing in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz on July 25, former Prime Minister Ehud Barak sounded the alarm once more. 'The Zionist vision is collapsing,' he wrote, adding that Israel is 'stuck in a 'war of deception' in Gaza.' Though Israel's pervasive Hasbara machine is relentlessly striving to stave off the surging flood of sympathy with Palestine and the rising tide of rage against Israeli alleged war crimes, for now its focus remains intently fixed on complicating the extermination of Gaza, even at the high price of global condemnation and outrage. When the war is finally over, however, Israel will undoubtedly exert its utmost efforts, employing numerous creative new ways to once more demonize the Palestinians and elevate itself—its so-called democracy and the 'right to defend itself.' Due to the growing international credibility of the Palestinian voice, Israel is already resorting to using Palestinians who indirectly defend Israel by faulting Gaza and attempting to play the role of the victim for 'both sides.' This insidious tactic is poised to grow exponentially in the future, as it aims directly at creating profound confusion and turning Palestinians against each other. Palestinians, Arabs and all supporters of justice worldwide must urgently seize this critical opportunity to decisively defeat the Israeli Hasbara for good. They must not allow Israel's lies and deceit to once more define the discourse on Palestine on the global stage. This war must be fiercely fought everywhere, and not a single space must be conceded—neither a parliament, a university, a sports event or a street corner. Giordano Bruno endured a most horrific and painful death, yet he never abandoned his profound beliefs. In the Palestine solidarity movement, we too must not waver from the struggle for Palestinian freedom and the accountability of war criminals, regardless of the time, energy or resources required. Now that Palestine has finally become the uncontested global cause, total unity is paramount to ensure the march toward freedom continues, so that the Gaza genocide becomes the final, agonizing chapter of the Palestinian tragedy.
