Govt. aiding CPI(M) attempts to wrest control of KSCARD Bank, allege bank president and board of directors
The director board of the Kerala State Co-operative Agricultural and Rural Development Bank (KSCARD Bank) has accused the State government of aiding the 'undemocratic' attempts of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] to wrest control of the UDF-governed bank.
Bank president C.K. Shajimohan told reporters here on Monday that a recent addition to the Kerala Cooperative Societies Rules specifically targeted KSCARD Bank. The new Rule 43C provides for 'motion of no confidence' for the removal against the managing committee of cooperative societies and banks by the general body.
In the latest development, the Additional Registrar (Credit), Office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, has issued a notice on the strength of this rule for convening a meeting on April 24 to discuss a no confidence motion moved against the governing committee of the bank.
'Neither the Cooperative Societies Act, comprehensively overhauled by the government some months ago, nor the bylaw of the KSCARD Bank provides for such an action. The bylaw clearly says that an elected committee stays in power for five years,' Mr. Shajimohan said.
The State government has displayed unwarranted haste in pushing the amendment through. Although the bank management had filed an objection within the stipulated 15 days, it was not heard, he said.
United Democratic Front (UDF) members have a majority in the 18-member board of directors. Prior to the election of the current management, the bank was under an administrator.
Mr. Shajimohan went on to add that, unlike cooperative banks managed by the CPI(M), the KSCARD Bank has not drawn criticism for inefficiency or financial irregularities.

Nilambur: Parties protest outside various offices following electrocution of Class X student by wild boar trap
MALAPPURAM: Nilambur witnessed a wave of protests on Monday, following the electrocution of a Class X student, Ananthu. Various parties held marches targeting different government offices, each placing blame on separate authorities for the incident. The CPM staged a protest in front of the Vazhikadavu panchayat office. Politburo member A Vijayaraghavan, who led the march, accused the UDF-led panchayat administration of failing to act against the threat posed by wild boars. 'Panchayats are empowered to cull dangerous wild boars, but the Vazhikadavu panchayat has done nothing on that front. Now, the UDF is trying to politicise Ananthu's death in the name of the Nilambur by-election,' Vijayaraghavan said. Meanwhile, the UDF took out a march to the KSEB office in Nilambur. Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan, who led the protest, criticised the CPM for targeting the panchayat instead of the KSEB, which he said bore actual responsibility. The BJP also took to the streets, marching to the forest department office.

TMC slams BJP over ‘sindoor-selling' remark
1 2 Kolkata: TMC targeted BJP 's state leadership on Monday over alleged derogatory remarks about women and the freezing of central funds. The criticism came at a press conference after leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari's comments about sindoor and bangles at a Sandeshkhali rally on Sunday. "Yesterday, Adhikari spoke about Lakshmir Bhandar and said that women shouldn't sell their sindoor and bangles at Rs 500-1,000," said state minister Shashi Panja. "Lakshmir Bhandar is a universal scheme for each and every woman of Bengal, unlike the exclusionary schemes in BJP-governed states," she added and went on to say: "They (BJP) are in office in a lot of states. Why doesn't Adhikari ask those govts to extend benefits and give Rs 3,000 to every woman?" The netas slammed other BJP seniors' misogynist comments, including remarks of Union minister Sukanta Majumdar and former state BJP chief Dilip Ghosh about CM Mamata Banerjee. On central funds, MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar said: "Over Rs 1.75 lakh crore of Bengal's funds have been wilfully blocked by Centre." Netas also spoke of BJP's "manipulation" in the Sandeshkhali incident. "They cheated the women of Sandeshkhali by making them sign on blank papers, using those later to file fake complaints," Panja claimed. tnn
