Walsall snap up popular Airdrie defender as ex-Aberdeen man is 'over the moon'
Mason Hancock has departed the Diamonds after a two-year spell in Monklands
Airdrie have announced their third exit of the day after defender Mason Hancock decided to join English side Walsall.
The Englishman was a popular player at the Diamonds and had spent the past five years in Scotland, having come through the youth ranks at Pittodrie and then gone on to play for Abroath and Stirling Albion.
Hanock becomes the third player to depart after striekr Ben Wilson and winger Lewis McGregor both left for undisclosed fees, joining TNS and Coleraine, respectively.
The 22-year-old old made 29 appearances in the Diamond last term under boss Rhys McCabe, scoring four goals, but admits he is thrilled to get a move back down south on a two-year deal.
Hancock told the Walsall website: 'I'm over the moon to be honest. I can't wait to get started. Pre-season and the beginning of the season can't come quicker for me.
'I've been in Scotland for five years now and it's always been the plan to get myself back down south into the EFL.
'I've made a name for myself up there and it's about time I came down and did it down here.
'The way the gaffer talks, he wants to bring in young players that are hungry and really kick them on so everything that he wants this club to stand for fits right in with everything I want to do with my career and where I am now. In my opinion, it was a no brainer to make my decision and come here.'
An Airdrie statement read: "Following the expiry of his contract, defender Mason Hancock has opted to move back home to England and has joined Walsall FC.
"Mason leaves the club with our thanks for his efforts and our best wishes for the future."

Man Utd can't complete deal for new target until final day of transfer window
Ruben Amorim and Manchester United are in line for a busy summer but the Premier League side may be forced to wait until the last minute to land one of their targets Manchester United will have to wait until transfer deadline day if they want to land midfield target Hicham Boudaoui. The Algerian international is the latest name to emerge as a potential solution to Ruben Amorim's midfield issues ahead of the new season. United boss Amorim has acted quickly to strengthen his front-line, with Matheus Cunha completing a £62.5million move from Wolves. Midfield remains a problem area, though, after a 15th-place finish in the Premier League. Casemiro's tough time in English football continued last term, while Amorim seems determined to use Kobbie Mainoo in a more advanced role and hasn't appeared eager to play Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte as a two. Alternatives are being eyed, and 25-year-old Boudaoui is among those to catch the eye. According to The Sun, United sent scouts to watch the midfielder in action for Algeria against Sweden. It was a game to forget for Boudaoui despite some positive flashes, though, with the visitors 4-0 down when he went off on the hour mark before pulling back three late goals. Boudaoui has two years left on his current deal with Nice, but has been tipped to leave this summer. Due to United's ownership situation, though, a move may have to wait. Sir Jim Ratcliffe is understood to be waiting until September before making any signings from Nice, who are also owned by Ineos. United and Nice were both involved in last season's Europa League, with a United move for Jean-Clair Todibo made impossible by the situation. 'They've said we can sell him to another Premiership club, but we can't sell to Manchester United. But that's not fair on the player and I don't see what that achieves," Ratcliffe told Bloomberg. Todibo eventually completed a season-long loan move to West Ham and has now joined the London side permanently. It remains to be seen whether the other European clubs reported to be keen on the midfielder decide to test the water before September. The Sun suggests a bid of around £20m could be enough to get a deal over the line. Nice finished last season in fourth place in Ligue 1, narrowly missing out on automatic qualification for the Champions League's league phase. They still have a chance to make it into the competition through the qualifying rounds, where they will need to come through two two-legged matches. United, in contrast, won't be in European competition of any kind next season. Their lowly Premier League finish meant the Europa League final offered their only hope, and they lost that against Tottenham in Bilbao.

Haatem shines with back-to-back Royal Ascot victories
Placed in the English and Irish Guineas last season, Richard Hannon's charge won the Jersey Stakes at this meeting 12 months ago, but was not seen in competitive action again until April. Having finished fifth on his Sandown comeback and then fourth in a Listed event in France, Haatem (8-1) stepped up to a mile and a quarter and saw out the trip well to beat Galen by three-quarters of a length under James Doyle, with 4-1 favourite King's Gambit – like the winner carrying the Wathnan Racing colours – a strong-finishing third. Hannon said of Haatem: 'He's pleased everyone all the way through his career, especially me. 'He's an amazing horse and a pleasure to be involved with, for old connections and new connections, and he's one of those horses that makes you remember why you train horses. 'What did he cost, 27,000 guineas? And the best thing about racing is you can find these horses and they then win these big races. 'He worked in the week and it was the best piece of work he's done all year and I thought 'is this the right thing to do, upping him in trip, maybe we should stick to a mile?'. 'James said he's loved it despite being a bit eager early and it's not out of the question we come back to a mile, but he will probably turn up in the Eclipse (would need to be supplemented) and I could see him running very well in that.' The Wathnan team and retained rider Doyle completed a quickfire double in the concluding Copper Horse Stakes, with John and Thady Gosden's French Master flying home to delight favourite-backers. Making his first outing since being bought by the Qatar-based owners and also sporting blinkers for the first time, the 5-2 market leader was nearer last than first at the top of the straight but was doing his best work at the finish and was two and a half lengths clear at the winning line. The Gosdens were also completing a double following the spectacular earlier success of Field Of Gold in the St James's Palace Stakes.
