Ryan Reynolds responds after released Wrexham star aims dig at club chiefs
Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds has issue a response on social media after Steven Fletcher announced his departure - despite the 38-year-old confessing he was keen to stay
Ryan Reynolds has issued a response after after Wrexham frontman Steven Fletcher revealed he would be leaving the club "and not by choice". The veteran striker scored eight goals for the Red Dragons this season as they secured automatic promotion from League One at the first time of asking.
However, the former Scotland international has been deemed surplus to requirements as Wrexham prepare for life in the Championship. Fletcher, who has often been used by manager Phil Parkinson as a super sub, said in a post on Instagram that he was departing "with a heavy heart".
He said: "I unfortunately have to announce my departure from what I can only describe as the most magical club I have ever played at! In my 22 years of stepping onto a pitch, I have never experienced anything like this club.
"I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to come here and fall back in love with the game! To have had the experiences and the opportunities that this club has given me has been just incredible. And this group of lads are the best that I have ever shared a changing room with."
Deadpool star and Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds has now paid his own tribute to Fletcher. Posting on social media, he said he would miss the ex-Sunderland and Wolves man's "leadership and wit".
Addressing Fletcher directly, Reynolds said: "Words aren't agile enough to capture what you've brought to Wrexham, the sport, and the lives of myself and this whole town. You aren't a PART of greatness. You ARE greatness.
"I don't really know what a co-chairmen is supposed to do or say in these moments and I don't much care. I'm gonna miss you. I'll miss your your leadership and wit and the way you remind everyone - including me - that this is also FUN. Like the first day we met, I'm here for you any time and any place. Always."
Reynolds also expressed his thanks to goalkeeper Mark Howard, who announced yesterday that he had been let go. Howard was part of the squad for all three of Wrexham's recent promotions.
The Canadian actor said: "Mark Howard - how on earth do we put into words the clutch work you do as a keeper. You have the hardest job in football. And you can't have that ability without being a clutch person in life.
"You have a beautiful family and you have a second family in Wrexham now and always. You're the big beating heart of this team and the reason we have the best locker room in sports."
He added: "Fletch and Chomp [Howard], you've authored some of the greatest moments of my life. And so many others. All I can do is thank you."
Fellow Wrexham owner Rob McElhenney said: "This is truly the worst part. I cannot say enough about these two men. @markhoward.1 and @stevenfletcher9official are not just players on the team. They are my friends and people I admire.
"They are men of ability and principle and commitment and compassion. They are men of character and fortune who have achieved something beyond anyone's imagination."
Meanwhile, Wrexham are already reported to have started making moves to sign the players necessary to compete in the second tier. Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney is said to be top of their target list as they look to make a statement of intent for next season.

The stunning reason Hugh Jackman delayed announcing his sporting partnership with Ryan Reynolds
Hollywood superstars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have officially joined forces as co-owners of Australia's SailGP team, the BONDS Flying Roos, but it turns out the partnership has been in the works for months. The announcement was finally unveiled this week - but not without months of behind-the-scenes tension. Plans to announce the partnership were originally scheduled for January 2025. However, the reveal was postponed as Jackman's personal life unravelled in the public eye. In May 2025, Jackman's ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, filed for divorce in New York. The filing followed a September 2023 separation, ending a 27-year marriage that began in April 1996. Soon after, Furness issued a searing public statement referring to a 'traumatic journey of betrayal' and a 'profound wound.' Her comments reportedly blindsided Jackman, who had expected a more discreet resolution. The couple's split came amid speculation about Jackman's new relationship with Broadway co-star Sutton Foster. Their romance became public in January 2025, further fuelling headlines and public interest. Furness later claimed she felt betrayed, especially after Foster had tried to befriend her during the marriage. The emotional fallout and media frenzy put Jackman's professional ventures on pause. The planned January announcement of his sports ownership with Reynolds was shelved due to the controversy. Backers of the Australian SailGP team had hoped the noise would die down. But as the headlines persisted, they opted to go ahead with the launch regardless - despite it becoming the worst possible timing. Jackman and Reynolds are now officially the faces behind the rebranded BONDS Flying Roos. Reynolds and Jackman released a cheeky joint statement filled with their trademark wit. 'We're incredibly excited to set sail together in this new adventure,' they wrote. 'Hugh brings a deep love for and pride in his home country as well as being an avid fan of sailing.' 'He will also be bringing his overly clingy emotional support human along for the ride.' 'Apologies in advance to Australia. No comment on whether we're writing this in our BONDS. No further questions.' The announcement comes as Wrexham, Reynolds' football club, prepares for a pre-season tour of Australia. It also adds another chapter to Reynolds' growing portfolio, which includes Aviation Gin and a stake in Alpine Formula One. Meanwhile, SailGP's Australian crew, led by Tom Slingsby, are leading the current championship with 39 points. Slingsby, who is also a co-owner and driver, welcomed Jackman and Reynolds with enthusiasm. 'This is an incredible milestone for us and for our sport,' Slingsby said. 'They bring unmatched star power, a love for storytelling, and a sharp sense of humour.' 'With BONDS joining as our Title Partner and the launch of the BONDS Flying Roos, we're building something distinctly Australian.' BONDS, now launched in the US with help from Robert Irwin, also sees the partnership as a defining moment. Tanya Deans, president of BONDS, called Jackman 'Australian royalty' in her statement. 'We're thrilled to join forces with such an iconic duo,' she said. 'And how do you say no to Hugh Jackman?' 'As we set sail on this new adventure, the BONDS Flying Roos have one less thing to worry about.' 'We've got their backs - and bums - covered.' The team's official rebranded debut will take place at the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix.

The dad-of-one, who is married to Hailey Bieber, took to Instagram to voice his thoughts. In the post, which he wrote over a pink background, he shared with his followers: "Telling other humans they deserve something is like raising someone else's kids. Who are you to tell someone what someone should or shouldn't have. The audacity. That's not your place. God decides what we deserve." Fans work quick to share their worries for the star in the comments section of the post. One user penned: "God told me you need a social media break," as over 21,000 fans liked the comment. "Brother didn't you tell your wife she could never be on the cover of vogue??" one person referenced his recent admission about a fight he had with his wife. However, following Justin's comments about his wife's cover story, he backtracked his views. He deleted his scathing caption he wrote under a picture of Hailey's cover of Vogue magazine. He was slammed by fans after he said he told his wife and mum of his son, Jack Blues, that she would never grace the cover of Vogue during a heated argument. He was responding to her cover shot for the US edition of the magazine. And on Instagram, he mused: "Yo, this reminds me when Hailey and I got into a huge fight, I told Hails that she would never be on the cover of Vogue. "Yikes, I know, so mean. For some reason because I felt so disrespected, I thought I gotta get even." He continued: "Think as we mature we realise that we're not helping anything by getting even, we're honestly just prolonging what we really want which is intimacy and connection." He concluded by sharing a message directly to Hailey. It read: "So baby u already know but forgive me for saying u wouldn't get a Vogue cover cuz clearly I was sadly mistaken."

Alison wore a huge fake belly under a figure hugging dress as she showcased her moves to Starrkeisha's viral song Baby Mama. The broadcaster, who is already mum to son Aidan, 20, whom she shares with ex-husband, captioned the post: "Lots of AI stories online about me being pregnant. The wild online speculation cruelly suggested that Meghan wasn't pregnant at all and was in fact wearing a prosthetic pregnant belly or "moonbump".
