
Tata Elxsi partners with Synopsys to deliver advanced automotive virtualisation solutions
, a global design and technology services player, has signed an MoU with
Synopsys
, a leading provider of silicon-to-systems design solutions, to collaborate on cutting-edge automotive virtualization technologies.
The agreement was formalised at SNUG India 2025 in Bengaluru, marking a strategic alliance aimed at accelerating the adoption of
virtual electronic control units
(vECUs) in the automotive sector.
The collaboration seeks to deliver pre-verified and integrated virtualisation solutions that enable OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to design and deploy vECUs faster and more efficiently. These virtual ECUs are crucial for software-defined vehicle (SDV) development, allowing automakers to validate software early, simulate real-world scenarios, and reduce dependence on physical prototypes.
Tata Elxsi will bring its deep engineering expertise in embedded systems and system integration, while Synopsys contributes its industry-leading virtualization platforms, already adopted by over 50 global automotive OEMs and Tier 1s.
The partnership is already active across projects involving software bring-up, board support package (BSP) integration, and early-stage software validation for vehicle domains such as powertrain, chassis, body control, gateways, and central computing units.

Taiwan cultivates young overseas chip talent with summer camps, university courses
By Wen-Yee Lee TAIPEI: Dressed in a white protective suit and face mask, Nicolas Chueh listened intently as a guide introduced a series of silver machines used in manufacturing Taiwan 's cutting-edge semiconductors. The 16-year-old was among students from eight countries at the summer camp staged to raise interest in Taiwan's most vital industry amid a fast-declining birth rate that could leave tens of thousands of critical jobs vacant. "I myself really enjoy playing video games. So I'm really just always using these semiconductor products," said Chueh, whose parents enrolled him after he expressed interest. The camp, organised by U.S. chip design software firm Synopsys, is among several such events staged by chip companies and Taiwanese universities in recent years as demand for semiconductors, which power most electronics and AI servers, surges across the globe. But for the first time this year, Synopsys, which has significant operations in Taiwan to be closer to the semiconductor supply chain, hosted the events both in Mandarin and English as Taiwan searches for overseas talent. "There is an urgent need to strengthen STEM education from an early age," said Robert Li, Synopsys's Taiwan chairman, who believes the camps can increase interest in the chip industry and help prime some of its future leaders. "That is why we are launching this initiative in Taiwan, where its strength in semiconductors meets the challenge of demographic decline. Taken together, it is clear we must act here first." Given limitations posed by Taiwan's ageing population, Synopsys is also considering hosting camps internationally to spur interest in chip making and designing, he added. The company charges T$33,000 ($1,103) for the English versions and T$10,900 for Mandarin. Chueh, a dual Taiwan-Belgian national who lives in Singapore, said he views semiconductors as an attractive career choice. "I want to lean into it to some extent because I think it will be crucial in the future with AI." SLUMPING BIRTH RATE Taiwan, which has a population of around 23 million, holds outsized influence over the global semiconductor supply chain, thanks to its chip companies such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co, the world's largest contract chipmaker, MediaTek , and UMC . Any decline in the industry poses an existential threat to Taiwan, which faces the threat of invasion from Beijing and draws much of its global significance from the chip behemoths. But job openings in the semiconductor sector have risen from 19,401 in the second quarter of 2020 to 33,725 in the same period this year, according to 104 Corporation, a local human resources firm. The industry is grappling with a shortage of both highly skilled professionals, such as IC design and semiconductor R&D engineers, and essential production staff, including operators and assembly technicians. Filling those jobs locally is becoming harder each year as Taiwan's annual number of births has dropped from over 210,000 in 2014 to around 135,000 in 2024, according to government statistics. STEM graduates have also fallen by around 15% in that period, Ministry of Education statistics showed. "Growth in Taiwan's semiconductor industry has been quite rapid, faster than what our schools can produce in terms of engineering talent each year," said Leuh Fang, chairman of Vanguard International Semiconductor, a Taiwan-based chipmaker affiliated with TSMC . 'THE FUTURE WORKFORCE' Last year, the National Taiwan University launched a global undergraduate semiconductor program for foreign students, which included Mandarin courses to help them reach the proficiency needed to stay and work in Taiwan. The program now enrols over 40 students from more than 10 countries. TSMC also began looking toward foreign talent by throwing its weight behind a program in Germany's Saxony state, which would send German students to study for a semester at Taiwanese universities before interning at TSMC. Other initiatives are attempting to create interest among children as young as 10. Taiwan's National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) launched an outreach program in July, backed by TSMC, aimed at making chip science fun through interactive teaching tools and online games. "The issue everyone is discussing now is where the future workforce will come from," said NYCU President Chi-Hung Lin. "If they're curious now, they won't reject it later and some may even grow to like this kind of work."

Tata Elxsi and KAVIA AI tie up to deploy GenAI in software development
Tata Elxsi has entered into a strategic partnership with KAVIA AI , a San Francisco-based software platform, to introduce generative AI-powered automation into the software development lifecycle (SDLC) for enterprise applications. The collaboration will focus on deploying KAVIA AI's cloud-native Workflow Manager Platform across Tata Elxsi's internal and client-facing programmes. The aim is to use generative AI to automate various phases of software development, including planning, architecture, coding, quality assurance, and deployment. The companies plan to target industries such as transportation, communications, media, and healthcare, where engineering reliability is a critical requirement. Nitin Pai, Chief Strategy Officer at Tata Elxsi, said: 'GenAI adoption demands more than tools—it requires a trusted partner to pilot, productise and scale development and deployment workflows. India's electronics exports cross $40 billion: Vaishnaw
Hyderabad: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday announced a major leap in India's electronics manufacturing sector, stating that exports have crossed the $40 billion mark — an eight-fold growth over the past 11 years. Domestic electronics production has also increased by 6 times, reflecting a strong upward trajectory in India's digital economy. Speaking at the 14th Convocation of IIT Hyderabad, Vaishnaw attributed this exponential rise to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's strategic vision. 'In just 11 years, we've multiplied electronics production six times and exports eight times. This kind of double-digit CAGR is rare globally,' said Vaishnaw. Highlighting India's advancements in telecommunications, Vaishnaw revealed that the country had successfully developed a complete 4G telecom stack within three and a half years. The stack is now deployed across nearly 90,000 telecom towers, surpassing the network coverage of many developed nations. To enhance innovation, the government has established 100 dedicated 5G labs, providing students with hands-on experience in real-world applications of next-generation wireless technologies. Turning to the semiconductor sector, the minister stated that India is poised to manufacture its first commercial-scale Made-in-India chip within this year. He expressed optimism that India would soon rank among the top five semiconductor-producing nations, highlighting the country's increasing focus on capital equipment and materials crucial for chip manufacturing. Vaishnaw also announced a large-scale talent development initiative aimed at skilling the semiconductor workforce. The Centre has distributed the latest Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools from global leaders — Cadence, Synopsys, and Siemens — to 270 colleges and institutions. Including startups, the reach extends to 340 institutions. 'No other country has launched a semiconductor talent program of this magnitude,' Vaishnaw remarked. In the transport sector, India's first bullet train is making steady progress, and it is expected to be operational by August or September 2027. Meanwhile, the Indian Railways has already advanced to manufacturing version three of the Vande Bharat train at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, showcasing significant strides in indigenous railway engineering. Vaishnaw cited five foundational pillars for India's technological rise — electronics manufacturing, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, the telecom sector, and railways — positioning them as key drivers for the country's next-generation growth and global competitiveness.
