Press Release: New Zealand Police
A forbidden driver has added serious drugs offences to his list of woes after a traffic stop in Whangārei this morning.
Frontline staff patrolling through Whangārei stopped a vehicle travelling along Memorial Drive before 1.30am.
Whangārei Area Commander, Inspector Maria Nordstrom says it was quickly established the 19-year-old was a forbidden driver.
'The teenager was arrested on the roadside, and in the process of searching the man he was found to be carrying illicit drugs.
'A further search was invoked on a shoulder bag he was wearing across his body.'
Inside, Police located more than 21 grams of MDMA and 491 LSD tablets.
Inspector Nordstrom says a further search inside the vehicle also located additional MDMA.
Around $150 in cash was also seized.
The 19-year-old will appear in the Whangārei District Court today on drugs offences including possession for supply of MDMA and possession of MDMA.
He will also face other driving offences.
'Possession for supply is a serious offence and carries with it a maximum penalty of 14 years imprisonment,' Inspector Nordstrom says.
'It's another great outcome from our team working overnight keeping harmful substances out of communities.'

Man arrested over $150,000 in 'dodgy' Facebook Marketplace deals
A man has been arrested and charged with ripping off more than a dozen victims through Facebook Marketplace. Detective Senior Sergeant Ryan Bunting said the man allegedly used fake bank transfers and identification cards at in-person transactions to steal more than $150,000 worth of high value items including vehicles, phones and jewellery. 'Unfortunately, the sellers have let the vehicles and goods go with the offender before later realising no transfer has occurred.' Bunting said the man was sought by police "in relation to 17 dodgy deals between November 2024 and April this year". A 36-year-old man was due to appear in Waitākere District Court today on 17 charges of obtaining by deception after officers from Waitematā West Tactical Crime Unit assisted by the Armed Offenders Squad conducted a search warrant at a Massey address this morning. Southland Woman Sentenced On Tax Charges
Press Release – Inland Revenue No PAYE returns were filed until 2020 when returns for seven PAYE periods were returned all at once with $82,894.86 (excluding penalties and interest) immediately due and payable. A Southland woman, whose company was involved in a programme providing school lunches, was sentenced to home detention on tax charges. Debra Lee Monteith was sentenced in the Invercargill District Court on June 3rd to 11 months home detention on a single representative charge of aiding and abetting her company in failing to account for PAYE between March 2021 and February 2024. Monteith's company, Lee 19, was primarily involved in food catering including the Ministry of Education's Ka Ora, Ka Ako Healthy School lunches and catering at the Alliance Lorneville meat processing plant. In 2019, Lee 19 registered as an employer and began paying its workers. The next year several employees phoned Inland Revenue stating their KiwiSaver deductions were not being paid. No PAYE returns were filed until 2020 when returns for seven PAYE periods were returned all at once with $82,894.86 (excluding penalties and interest) immediately due and payable. Monteith entered into an instalment arrangement in 2020 for the debt, but this was cancelled in 2022 because of missed payments. Then the company stopped paying PAYE entirely from March 2021 until February 2024. The PAYE not accounted for over this period totalled $801,928.79. Monteith told Inland Revenue the PAYE was used to keep the company afloat and pay for food costs. Her personal expenses were paid out of the company's finances and her groceries were taken from the company's pantry. Monteith benefitted by just over $300,000 between 2020 and 2024, although she wasn't otherwise taking a salary from the company. Lee 19 also applied for and received more than $780,000 in COVID-19 support money from various schemes. The company, at Monteith's direction, was receiving significant taxpayer support while at the same time not meeting its own tax obligations. In March 2024, Lee 19 was placed into liquidation. Monteith, who ran four other companies since the late 1980s, was made bankrupt in 2013.

Man allegedly stole $150,000 of goods in marketplace scam
PHOTO: REUTERS A 36-year-old man has been arrested over fleecing Facebook Marketplace users of $150,000 worth of goods. Detective senior sergeant Ryan Bunting said the arrest came after an investigation into a man who was wanted in relation to 17 deals between November last year and April this year. Bunting said the man was alleged to have been involved in Facebook Marketplace deals for 17 different vehicles or high value items including phones and jewellery. The man is alleged to have attended public places to meet the sellers and do bank transfers described as looking very real, including using fake IDs and fake driver's licenses. However, the sellers have let the goods go with the offender before later realising no transfer has occurred. "Several vehicles have been recovered and further enquiries are ongoing," Bunting said. He said police were not ruling out further charges. The man is set to due to appear in Waitākere District Court on Thursday facing 17 charges of obtaining by deception. Advice from police when buying or selling on online platforms Insist on meeting to conduct transactions and examine the item before completing the transaction. Meet in a public place and take a friend. Do not go into someone's house or allow them into yours. Do not deposit money into another person's account before you have received the item. Ensure that cleared funds have arrived in your account, don't rely on sellers ID, screenshots or viewing funds being transferred on an app. Trust your instincts - if it's too good to be true or sounds like a scam, it probably is
