Celtics vs Knicks live updates: Score, highlights from Game 6

Derrick White (34 points) and Jaylen Brown (26 points) carried Boston's offense in its 127-102 Game 5 victory. The Celtics will need a similar effort from that duo while Luke Kornet (10 points, 9 rebounds, 7 blocks) will be tasked with helping Boston's interior defense, especially if Porzingis is limited again.
Meanwhile, the Knicks will focus on getting Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson to defend without fouling, something they struggled with in Game 5.
New York has largely outperformed Boston in the fourth quarter during the series. As such, if the Knicks can stay within striking distance late without getting into foul trouble, they will have a chance to knock out the reigning NBA champions and head to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 2000.
Follow along for updates and highlights from Game 6 of the Celtics vs. Knicks:
Karl-Anthony Towns scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds and Knicks wing Mikal Bridges had 10 points but also picked up two fouls as the New York Knicks jumped out to a 26-20 lead after the first quarter of Game 6 Friday.
Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown scored 13 points and helped Boston keep the score close in the opening quarter. No other Celtics players made more than one field goal.
With Kristaps Porzingis not quite 100% as he deals with the lingering effects of a viral infection, Luke Kornet, who had a game-changing Game 5 (10 points, nine rebounds, seven blocks), got the start for Boston. Porzingis made an appearance and played six minutes, scoring three points.
New York shot 10-for-27 from the field and 3-for-14 on 3-pointers, and Boston was 8-for-24 and 3-for-10.

Caitlin Clark gives major injury update ahead of Angel Reese showdown

Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark is targeting a return to playing next week against the Atlanta Dream. Clark told reporters that the quad strain she suffered in her left leg in a game against the New York Liberty will be re-evaluated over the weekend. If all goes well, Clark could possibly go back to playing for the Fever against Atlanta on Tuesday. The Fever have been a shell of themselves since Clark went down with the injury four games ago - having lost two of three contests. After falling to the Liberty, the Fever struggled against the Washington Mystics before being defeated in a close game by the Connecticut Sun - which picked up their first and only win of the season so far. Indiana then beat the Mystics in the WNBA Commissioner's Cup on Tuesday night. Clark's absence has seen the Fever lose ground in the Eastern Conference standings - now four games back of the Liberty and two games behind the Dream. Despite the injury, Clark has remained around the team on gamedays - seen courtside plenty of times. Recently, she had to apologize due to an unexpected reaction from a large bouncy ball which inadvertently hit a fan. In the video, Clark bounces the ball lightly on the Gainbridge Fieldhouse hardwood a few times before slamming it to the ground, expecting it just to go higher. The ball launches several feet behind Clark and into the floor seating behind one of the baskets. Clark runs over immediately trying to find the ball and apologizing profusely to the group of fans sitting in that section. Before her potential return to the Fever, Clark will be missing one more game - a road matchup against rival Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky.

Rick Pitino shuts door on New York Knicks return: ‘Absolutely not'

St John's coach Rick Pitino said he has zero interest in becoming head coach of the New York Knicks again. 'Absolutely not,' Pitino said during a broadcast of Wednesday's game between the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Guardians, per CBS Sports. 'I think whoever comes in, if he doesn't get to the finals, it's going to be deemed an unsuccessful season,' he continued. 'So, whoever comes in has got so much pressure on them to take this team to the next level cause that's why they're doing it, obviously, in their minds.' The Knicks fired head coach Tom Thibodeau on Tuesday despite reaching the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years. The Knicks haven't reached the NBA finals since 1999 and have not won a championship since 1973. Pitino, 72, compiled a 90-74 record with two playoff appearances in two seasons as the head coach for New York from 1987-89. The Hall of Famer completed his second season as the head coach at St John's in 2024-25, winning national and Big East Coach of the Year honors after finishing 31-5. Thibodeau compiled a 226-174 (.565) record in five seasons with the Knicks, including a 51-31 finish this season. He was 24-23 in the playoffs with New York.

Bruins tab former player Marco Sturm as new head coach

June 5 - The Boston Bruins hired Marco Sturm as their new head coach Thursday, filling the final vacant position in the NHL. Sturm, 46, will be a head coach for the first time in the league. The Bruins punched their ticket to the playoffs in eight consecutive seasons before limping to an Atlantic Division-worst 33-39-10 record in 2024-25. Boston replaced head coach Jim Montgomery after 20 games on Nov. 19, with interim head coach Joe Sacco finishing the season with a 25-30-7 mark. Sturm said he welcomes the opportunity to preside over a team he represented from 2005-10. "I'm incredibly honored to be named head coach of the Boston Bruins," Sturm said. "I want to thank Charlie Jacobs and the Jacobs family, (Bruins president) Cam Neely, and (general manager) Don Sweeney for trusting me with this opportunity. Boston has always held a special place in my heart, and I know how much this team means to the city and to our fans. I've felt that passion as a player, and I can't wait to be behind the bench and feel it again. I'm excited to get to work and do everything I can to help this team succeed." Sweeney credited Sturm's attention to defensive hockey as one of the reasons for his hiring. "Throughout this process, our goal was to identify a coach who could uphold our strong defensive foundation while helping us evolve offensively," Sweeney said. "We were also looking for a communicator and leader -- someone who connects with players, develops young talent, and earns the respect of the room." Sturm has coached Ontario of the American Hockey League for the past three seasons, guiding the Reign to the playoffs in all three campaigns. Sturm totaled 487 points (242 goals, 245 assists) in 938 career games with the San Jose Sharks, Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Washington Capitals, Vancouver Canucks and Florida Panthers. He was traded from the Sharks to the Bruins as part of the Joe Thornton deal on Nov. 30, 2005. Sturm is Germany's all-time leader in NHL games played. --Field Level Media
