Big Ten Network personality Jake Butt picks teams for 2025 Big Ten title game

Another Big Ten football media days is in the books, and now we can focus our attention towards the start of fall camp and the buildup to the start of the 2025 college football season. Ohio State will be defending its College Football Playoff national championship and will look to add a couple of goals it missed out on last season -- winning the Big Ten and beating Michigan. That's not as easy as it used to be with the addition of former Pac-12 schools from the West Coast -- Oregon, Washington, UCLA, and USC-- and with Michigan and Penn State rising up to become national powers as well. The Big Ten has closed the gap on the SEC and created one of its own as the best conference in the country, and it should be another fantastic season in 2025. So, who has the advantage in making the Big Ten Championship game? Ohio State and Penn State are expected to be the best teams this year according to most of the media, but that's not what Jake Butt from the Big Ten Network thinks. In a segment on social media, Butt provided his picks for teams that will play in Indianapolis, and he omitted Ohio State, picking Penn State to tussle with Oregon instead. It's all opinion, of course, and it's not like the Ducks aren't a program to reckon with almost annually now, so there's that. But Butt not identifying his alma mater, Michigan or the Buckeyes, is an interesting take, especially considering Oregon lost as much talent as OSU. But never fear Ohio State fans, Butt did mention Ohio State as one of the teams that will contend for a College Football Playoff spot -- so there's at least that. Ohio State defending its title and having a shot at a conference crown will largely depend on the production it gets at the quarterback spot and how well the defense plugs some of those gaps lost to the NFL. It won't take long to see how those questions are answered because the Buckeyes open up against Texas in Week 1. Let the countdown continue. Valkyries brace for tough decisions as EuroBasket players return

The post Valkyries brace for tough decisions as EuroBasket players return appeared first on ClutchPoints. SAN FRANCISCO – It's something the Golden State Valkyries knew they would have to face the moment their players departed for EuroBasket. But it doesn't make the decisions they'll have to make in the coming days any easier. With Janelle Salaün, Cecilia Zandalasini, Julie Vanloo, and Iliana Rupert returning from overseas, the Valkyries will likely have to part ways with the players they signed to cover in their absence. That means parting ways again with fan-favorites Kaitlyn Chen and Laeticia Amihere, not to mention a quality off-the-bench shooter in Chloe Bibby. Golden State already waived guard Aerial Powers to open up a roster spot for Temi Fagbenle's return. Ahead of her first game back with the Valkyries, Fagbenle emphasized the unfortunate reality of the team's situation. 'They did a great job,' Fagbenle said regarding how the team managed without the international players. 'The integration was seamless, and I wish we could keep everyone.' But Chen, Amihere, and Bibby's play on the court over the last two weeks complicates things. As Fagbenle mentioned, all three have been meaningful contributors in each of the Valkyries' important wins while the international players were abroad. It's difficult emotionally to have to cut players but it makes it even more difficult when they've proved they are actual positive factors. After the dominant win versus the Seattle Storm, Natalie Nakase admitted these three players surpassed her expectations while also emphasizing once again that the league needs to add more roster spots. 'Yeah, we need more roster spots. I'm going to probably keep saying that over and over again,' Nakase said. 'Everyone that we have been able to pull in, all our players that are at Euro Basket, they have surpassed my expectations. Not only, you know, being a great teammate and a great person. But their skill set of just being ready.' Nakase went on to individually highlight what each mid-season addition has done for the team. Another example of how hard it will be for the Valkyries to part ways with these players for now. The Valkyries' game plan for the returning players With the EuroBasket players returning, Nakase is focused on one very specific thing: rest. 'We want health over everything,' Nakase said. 'If I flew from over to Italy? I flew from internationally, I think it would be a little tired. They played heavy minutes. And the emotions, like I saw videos of Ceci [Zandalasini] crying and obviously Julie [Vanloo] like these girls are going through an emotional roller coaster over there because they're playing for the country. So I expect and anticipate [them to be] exhausted, mental and physical.' With five days of rest before hitting the road, the Valkyries will have ample time to recharge their batteries. And it could not have come at a better time. Kayla Thornton exited midway through the win over Seattle, grabbing at her neck as she walked into the locker room. Not to mention, rookie Carla Leite is nursing a back injury and has missed the last three games. After the win versus Seattle, Veronica Burton talked about maintaining momentum as they approach a much-needed break. 'I think physically and mentally, it's always something that we are appreciative. When you have a couple days that you can just reset and get healthy. Just take a little bit of some recovery time to yourself,' Burton said. 'We want to build off of what we've been doing. And we're grateful to be getting our team back as well… I think it's a reset, but also we're just going to continue to build on it.' Big Ten players asked which uniforms were the best and their answer isn't surprising

B1G players share their favorite jerseys:🦆 Dogs or cats? Star Trek or Star Wars? These are the type of questions you might hear at a conference media day. The type of questions that are pertinent to this college football season, and in particular, the Big Ten season. The right answers are cats and Star Trek, by the way. At Big Ten media days in Las Vegas, which was a three-day event, players from around the conference were asked a myriad of questions, and the subject of the best uniforms happened to come up. In a recent mash up of answers that were posted on TicTok, the overwhelming winner was the Ducks. Players had to name a team, other than their own, whose uniforms were the best in the Big Ten. While Oregon's uniforms won out, with 13 players saying the Ducks because of the colors and the number of combinations they can throw at you, it's interesting that UCLA received two votes and USC garnered a couple of votes as well. The three relative newcomers to the league had all the votes, and none went to the more traditional schools such as Michigan or Ohio State. Oregon was the first team to start the uniform craze, and while some have tried to duplicate them, the Ducks are still leading the way. Whether it's the traditional green, the highlighter yellow, or the stormtrooper whites, Oregon always looks sharp on the field, and opponents still notice.
