NEET UG 2025: 12.37 lakh qualify, no perfect 720 scores this year

India Today15 hours ago

The NEET-UG 2025 results have been declared, revealing a significant shift in trends—most notably, the absence of any perfect scores and a lower overall top score compared to previous years.Mahesh Kumar from Rajasthan emerged as the sole topper, securing a percentile of 99.9999547. He was closely followed by Madhya Pradesh's Utkarsh Awadhiya, who scored a percentile of 99.9999095. TThe top score this year dropped to 686, with no candidate securing a full 720.advertisement
In contrast, last year saw 17 students achieve a perfect 720, although this figure was later revised to 61 after a Supreme Court intervention over grace marks and answer key discrepancies. This time, the NTA has not released individual scores for the top 50 candidates, breaking from earlier practices.CUT-OFF MARKS DROP AS TOP SCORE FAILSWith the top scores dipping, the cut-off marks have followed suit. For the general category, the qualifying range was between 686 and 144. This is a drop from last year's range of 720–162, and 720–137 in 2023.A total of 73 candidates scored within the 651–686 marks range this year, according to the official results. The sharp decline in top scores may be reflective of the stricter monitoring and tighter evaluation process that was in place for the 2025 exam.OVER 12 LAKH CANDIDATES QUALIFYadvertisementOut of 22.09 lakh students who appeared for NEET UG this year, 12.37 lakh have cleared the examination—indicating a qualifying rate of over 56%. The participation numbers dipped slightly from last year's 23.33 lakh.Female candidates continued to dominate the results, making up over half of all test-takers and accounting for nearly 58% (7.22 lakh) of those who qualified.STATE-WISE BREAKUPUttar Pradesh led the tally with the highest number of qualified candidates (1,70,684), followed by Maharashtra (1,25,727), Rajasthan (1,19,865), Karnataka (83,582), and Bihar (80,954). Amongst the top 20 rankers, Rajasthan and Delhi each produced four candidates.-----After a controversy surrounding a paper leak in 2024, the NEET UG 2025 exam was conducted under heightened security and surveillance. The Ministry of Education set up a committee last year to recommend improved protocols, and both state and central agencies worked to ensure smooth and fair conduct of the exam in May this year.As the medical entrance test continues to be a high-stakes gateway for lakhs of aspirants, this year's results underscore a renewed focus on exam integrity and standardisation.Must Watch

Slain Beed sarpanch's daughter praised for success in NEET

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Vaibhavi Deshmukh, daughter of the late Massajog sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh from Beed district, is receiving widespread commendation for scoring 147 marks in NEET — a remarkable achievement given the challenges she faced. Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar lauded Vaibhavi's success, calling it more than just an academic accomplishment. He emphasized that her story serves as a powerful lesson on facing adversity and achieving one's goals. "Your success will inspire the new generation. Vaibhavi, your achievement can't be measured in terms of marks alone. Even in the most adverse circumstances, you didn't get discouraged or distracted. By overcoming sorrow with patience and hard work, you pursued your dream and saw it through," Pawar said in a post on X. The deputy CM praised Vaibhavi's admirable determination, perseverance, and maturity, offering his best wishes for her future educational endeavours. Vaibhavi shared with the media that she received congratulatory calls from various prominent figures, including deputy CM Eknath Shinde and NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo "I am getting calls from many, but I miss my father, who is not with me right now, to pat me on my back. She added that the blessings of her father would remain with her forever, even if he is not physically present with her. The Massajog sarpanch was allegedly abducted, brutally tortured, and eventually murdered on Dec 9 last year for resisting a multi-crore extortion bid on a private energy company. Meanwhile, the Deshmukh family and Masaajog villagers have postponed their sit-in agitation they planned from Monday.

Tejashwi slams state govt over ‘nepotism' in key appointments

1 2 Patna: Leader of the opposition in Bihar assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav , on Sunday accused the state govt of "gross nepotism" in recent appointments to various commissions. Addressing a press conference, Tejashwi released the names of people recently appointed to the Bihar State Women Commission and as Group A panel counsel for central govt litigation in the Supreme Court for a three-year term. According to him, one appointee is the wife of a retired bureaucrat with close ties to those in power while two others are daughters of a ruling party leader similarly connected. Citing these appointments, Tejashwi criticised PM Narendra Modi as well. "The PM lectures us on parivarvaad (nepotism), but just look at what is happening in Bihar under his ally's rule," he said. He went on to mock the govt's approach. "The sons-in-law of three top leaders in Bihar were appointed as the chairman, vice-chairman and member of various commissions recently formed. If the appointments are being made in this manner, the govt should promptly establish a dedicated 'Sons-in-law Commission' so that the remaining sons-in-law can also be included in positions of benefit by the ruling party," he said. Tejashwi also demanded transparency regarding state-facilitated opportunities for relatives of officials. He asked the govt to disclose how many wives of government officials were given government jobs, how many children of officials were sent abroad using public funds, how many have launched consultancy firms, and how many have invested in land and assets overseas. Govt. signs MoUs with six NGOs to transform school education

To introduce state-of-the-art technology and teaching, free of cost, in government schools, six non-governmental organisations (NGOs) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the School Education Department in the presence of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday. The MoU seeks to introduce technology-enabled teaching services, entirely free of cost. The initiative is part of the State government's vision to enhance accessibility to quality education for underprivileged students. Among the six organisations collaborating with the State are Nandan Nilekani-led EkStep Foundation, Sunita Krishnan's Prajwala Foundation, Alakh Pandey's Physics Wala, Khan Academy, Shoaib Dar's Pi Jam Foundation, and Safina Hussain's Educate Girls. As part of the MoU, the EkStep Foundation will expand its AI-powered learning platform from 540 schools to over 5,000 primary schools in all 33 districts. The platform offers multilingual foundational learning in Telugu, English, and Mathematics, for Classes 3 to 5. Physics Wala will offer free, high-quality coaching for competitive exams like NEET, JEE, and CLAT, to government school students at the Intermediate level. The focus is on early preparation right from school. Khan Academy will provide curriculum-aligned, video-based learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects for Classes 6 to 10, enabling students to learn at their own pace. Prajwala Foundation will launch comprehensive child safety and protection programmes targeting students from Classes 6 to 12. Pi Jam Foundation will impart training in coding and computational thinking for students from Class 1 to 10, nurturing problem-solving and digital skills from a young age. Educate Girls has already facilitated the enrolment of over 16,000 out-of-school children in Telangana. The organisation will continue its focus on improving literacy among girls and promoting gender equity in education. Expressing his government's commitment, Mr. Revanth Reddy said that leveraging partnerships with reputed organisations will bring about transformative change in education. 'We are laying the foundation for a knowledge-based future. These partnerships reflect our commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind in this digital age,' he said. Government Advisor K.
