Saudi Arabia welcomes Australia, New Zealand announcements on Palestinian statehood
'The Kingdom commends the international consensus that supports the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital,' the Saudi foreign ministry said in a statement on X.
'The Kingdom emphasizes that the current phase requires from the advocates of peace to recognize a Palestinian state and support efforts to stop the long war especially amid Israel's ongoing violation to international law and humanitarian law.'
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Monday that his country will recognize a Palestinian state at next month's United Nations General Assembly.
The move adds international pressure on Israel after similar announcements were made by France, Britain and Canada.

Saudi foreign ministry accuses Israel of committing crimes amounting to genocide
RIYADH: Saudi Arabia's ministry of foreign affairs has accused Israel of behaving 'in a manner that amounts to crimes of genocide against defenseless civilians in the Gaza Strip', in a damming statement on X on Thursday. Saudi Arabia condemned the Israeli occupation's persistence in crimes against Palestinians in the occupied land and the ongoing attempts to displace them and preventing them from establishing an independent state. 'Israel's commencement of expanding settlement construction around occupied Jerusalem, and expanding their operations and aggression in a manner that amounts to crimes of genocide against defenseless civilians in the Gaza Strip,' said the statement. The statement condemned what it called 'serious violations of international law' and said the continuation of the 'dangerous Israeli plan' and crimes of the Israeli occupation authorities had a major impact on the security and stability of the region, and threatened the legitimacy of the international system.
