An Indian-origin woman, Sharanjit Kaur, has been sentenced to four years in jail after she pleaded guilty to reckless driving causing death of Jonathan Baker. The road rage took place on June 27 last year and the sentence was handed down by Hamilton District Court, New Zealand.
According to reports, Kaur was triggered after she saw a photograph of her ex, referred to Mr R in court documents, with his wife and family at an Indian restaurant. It is not clear whether the man was her ex or current partner. Kaur confronted the man and then started following the wife, referred to as Mrs R.
Court documents revealed that Kaur followed Mrs R at high speed, tailgating, brake-checking, and attempting to intimidate her.
She drove recklessly on the wrong side of Boyd Road at speeds between 125–136 km/h before smashing into Baker's vehicle. He died instantly and Kaur sustained minor injuries.
'Mistress chasing the wife...like a bad novel'
49-year-old Baker's widow Andrea told the court how devastated she was when she received the news of her husband's death. She said her Christian faith prompted her to forgive Kaur. 'In forgiveness for me comes freedom in the long run... I do forgive you, my hope is with you hearing these words...

learn from it and do some good.'
Baker's mother-in-law Colleen told the court that Kaur killed a totally innocent man. 'The mistress chasing the wife... is beyond comprehension, it's like a bad novel'.
She said a drunk or drugged driver-or even an angry wife chasing a mistress - would have made some sense.
Kaur's lawyer Anjeet Singh said she knew nothing she could say would alleviate the Bakers' pain, but her client 'accepts full responsibility'. She said the photo 'led to a psychological collapse... Something more than rage'. The photo brought forth years of turmoil and uncertainty around her eight-year relationship, she said pleading for home detention, which was rejected.

Stepfather Kills 9-Year-Old Boy To Get Closer To Wife, Avoid Property Division

1 2 Nagpur: In a chilling act of cruelty, nine-year-old Darshan Palaskar was brutally strangled by his stepfather Akash Kanhekar to 'eliminate any future demand for share in property'. Kanhekar also believed killing Darshan will remove the son from his wife's first marriage, and help mend his strained relationship with her. The 35-year-old Kanhekar roped in his friend Gaurav Gaigole with a paltry Rs300 to assist in the heinous crime. The boy's lifeless body was discovered around 40km away from their house, dumped in a sack in a gully in the hilly jungle terrain near Akot city, after an intensive 10-hour overnight search by the Akot police. The search was led by senior inspector Amol Malwe under the supervision of assistant SP Anmol Mittal and SP Archit Chandak. The case began on July 2, when Kanhekar and his wife, Darshan's mother, walked into Akot City police station at around 8.30pm to report the boy missing. The mother claimed Darshan left home around 3pm and had not returned. His mobile phone was switched off at 3.21pm, raising immediate suspicion. The police, led by the station house officer (SHO), registered a case of kidnapping under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched a search operation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2 BHKs starts at ₹ 72.6 Lakh | No Floor rise | Zero PLC Mahindra Happinest Tathawade Get Quote Undo A breakthrough came via Akot city's recently inaugurated integrated CCTV Command Centre, where footage revealed Darshan walking alone at 3.05pm before being picked up on a motorcycle by two men. Shockingly, one of the men was identified as Kanhekar, the stepfather who had come to report the boy missing. When confronted, Kanhekar's wife revealed that he was her second husband. Darshan's father had died by suicide a few years earlier. This revelation shifted the investigation's focus. By 12.30am, the investigation officer had started interrogating Kanhekar. Under intense questioning, he confessed to strangling Darshan and disposing of his body in the hilly jungle near the Shahnur Wildlife Sanctuary, part of Melghat Tiger Reserve. Kanhekar's lack of cooperation and attempts to mislead the police delayed the recovery of the body, which was found only after a gruelling overnight search using mobile lights and torches. The boy's body, stuffed in a sack, was located in a riverine gully in rugged terrain. Simultaneously, a separate police team tracked down Gaigole, the second suspect spotted in the CCTV footage, to Anjangaon Surji tehsil in Amravati district. Gaigole was taken into custody and brought to Akot for questioning. The police, supported by the district's mobile forensic van, worked tirelessly through the night, combing the dense jungle to locate Darshan's remains. The police team completed 90% of the investigation within 12 hours under ASP Mittal and SP Chandak. All procedural requirements under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), including video recording of critical investigative processes, were meticulously followed. The police have prepared comprehensive documentation and aim to submit a watertight charge sheet within two days. The two accused were remanded to police custody till July 7 after being produced before the court on Thursday.

'I'm not proud': Soham Parekh breaks silence on defrauding companies, says he was forced to do it

Soham Parekh said he had dire financial circumstances that forced him to do three jobs simultaneously. Indian techie Soham Parekh, who has been accused of frauding US companies by working in several companies at the same time, owned up to what he did and said he did that out of dire fiancial circumstances. In TBPN's show, Parekh, who worked in multiple US companies lying to them about his location, admitted that the allegations against him are true but he is not proud of what he has done. "I'm not proud of what I've done. That's not something I endorse either. But no one really likes to work 140 hours a week. I had to do it out of necessity. I was in extremely dire financial circumstances," Parekh said in the interview. "I'm not a very people person. I don't share much about what's going on in my life. So I just thought: if I work multiple places, maybe I can elevate myself out of the situation faster," he said. 'I was decent enough, a good enough engineer' In his first interview amid the major moonlighting controversy, he said he likes to believe that he was decent enough, a good enough engineer, to essentially be able to work at three places because that's the only thing he did the entire day. "Some of these companies I worked at were before the Co-Pilot boom. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo There was no AI-assisted programming," he said. Soham Parekh's scam came into light after Suhail Doshi, co-founder of Mixpanel and Playground AI outed him in an X post, warning everyone that Parekh scams startups by faking his resume and working multiple jobs at the same time. "PSA: there's a guy named Soham Parekh (in India) who works at 3-4 startups at the same time. He's been preying on YC companies and more. Beware," Doshi had said. "He hasn't stopped a year later. No more excuses." Several CEOs claimed that they interviewed Parekh and got to learn about his scam the hard way.
